StencilGirl February 2022 Project

February is a month with very low light levels and after getting through January I always dread going through another winter month. At least it’s shorter by some days! One way I use to cheer myself up is to use as much colour as possible whenever I can, and this project (or rather projects) grew out of that desire.

Here is the link to the tutorial:

6 People Present

The prompt on Joggles Art Journal Adventures this week was to use the number 6. I found a quotation I liked very much. It's by William James and it reads: "Whenever two people meet, there are really six people present. There is each man as he sees himself, each man as the other person sees him, and each man as he really is". Definitely something to remember when meeting other people.
The background started with collage, using magazine images and wrapping paper. Over them and on the uncollaged areas I used Distress Crayons and paints which were then removed with a baby wipe through stencil L608 Soulful Scribbles by Stencilgirl. I also dribbled fluorescent paint and ink down the pages till I was happy with how the spread was looking.
For the two people meeting I used the two ambassadors from Hans Holbein the Younger's painting. They felt appropriate for the quote as they both look rather full of themselves.
The quotation itself was stamped unto vintage looking scrapbook paper with a variety of alphabet stamp sets. Then some doodling and outlining was added with both black and white markers.

I worked in the 9 x 9" Bee Paper Mixed Media journal, which is ring bound as you can see on the above picture. Despite that I like this journal very much, mainly due to the great quality paper.

Gallery One view

I'm not often in Gallery One of the Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh (most special shows are in Two) but was there today to see the small Bridget Riley exhibition and revisit some Picasso paintings, as well as work by Braque, Mondriaan and Delauney among others. It was so quiet after MoMA despite the quality of the paintings on display. This gallery deserves more visitors.

Unfortunately I and lots of other traffic, was snarled up with a pretty bad accident on the Edinburgh City Bypass on my way to the gallery which delayed me for more than 45 minutes, and had to reward myself with both tea and cake sitting in the sunny garden of Gallery One's cafe before throwing myself into Edinburgh city centre traffic to go home again! This is the view from Gallery One onto Charles Jencks landscape art

Echoing through Time

As promised on Sunday I'm showing you the piece of art I bought during the Biggar Arts Festival. I saw it at the Open Studios event by Moira Russell and her husband Ken. This is a very textural painting by Moira called Echoing through Time and I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. These photographs really don't do it justice but might perhaps give you some idea of why I liked it so much. It would become more personal than I want to get here, to try and put into words why I felt a connection to the work but something deep inside me responded to it.
I'm so happy to have it hanging in our house now!
