These are the sources for my fractal compression program which is given in
a chapter of the "The Data Compression Book" by Mark Nelson and Jean-loup
Gailly, M&T Books, New York, NY 1996. ISBN 1-55851-434-1, 541 pages.
List price in the US is $39.95 including one PC-compatible disk bearing all
the source code printed in the book. For more information about the book,
see http://web2.airmail.net/markn/tdcb/tdcb.htm

Invoke frac and defrac without parameters for minimal help. This program
was deliberately kept as simple as possible, so it handles only 8-bit
greyscale images in "raw" format without header. Such files can be
transformed to the PGM format by adding at the beginning:

P5
# header for gs files
320 200
255

and vice-versa, the "raw" files can be produced from the PGM
format by removing their header. Many image manipulation tools
(such as XV: ftp://ftp.cis.upenn.edu/pub/xv/ ) support the PGM format.

If you want to understand how the program works, or if you need help about
the program, please buy the book first. The sources are provided for free
but I do not have time to provide much help about them.
