First Day of Spring

I went out last night, when the light was just right to catch a few pictures of how spring in going around Rainy Day Farm. I hope you enjoy the progress.
We have been having an very warm winter this year thanks to El Nino and it has been wonderful. Plants are blooming and birds are singing. It has been wonderful. So the first day of spring here is going to be wonderful. The weather forecast is for 65 and sunny. We are going to celebrate by tilling the garden and getting started. I am excited to improve this year and produce and store even more food.

My Hawthorne Tree is just beginning to bud.

This is a little out of focus, but there is a bee gathering nectar on my weeping cherry tree. The bees have been enjoying this tree all week as it is in full bloom.

The raspberries are growing their leaves.

The chickens are laying more wonderful eggs.

I was so excited to open the blinds and see the Swallows have returned just in time for the first day of Spring. Now I need to repair the bird house and get it ready for the returning pair that raise their young on my front porch. So much fun in spring. Have a wonderful start to spring!

Frosty Mornings

We have been having a bit of a cold snap this week, so I have been out sneaking a few pics. Since snow if pretty rare here, I have to be happy with frost. It is nice to have some sun during the day too. This kind of weather makes me want a wood stove and a warm cup of cocoa.

One of my favorite places

This is one of my favorite things about the cabin. The mornings are so beautiful here. Some mornings are bright and sunny, some are windy and dark, but this morning was perfect. It was before the sun burned through the clouds and there was a beautiful fog floating on top of the water. I ran out to catch the moment. I just wish that camera's captured the beauty that they eye sees. Anyway, this is one of my favorite places in the world. The time of day rarely matters, it is always beautiful and peaceful on the dock. This picture makes me sigh and release the tension in my body. Hope it does the same for you.

Early Riser

Having children wake you up early in the morning has few benefits, but this is deffinetly one. Waking up early enough to see this kind of light in the sky is worth it. I admit to being a tad bit grumpy when I first wake up in the morning. (I am sure Robb will have very loud snort for all to hear when he reads this) But once I have rubbed my eyes, stretched, touched my feet on the floor and have a good 30 minutes to myself I am good to go. I would sooooo be one of those people who don't function before their first cup of coffee, if I drank coffe.
So this morning when Robb said I had to get out of bed "NOW" I really really didn't want to, but I was curious to see the sky. I was not disappointed. This view was spectacular, so I had to get out my camera and share. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I just wish I had a better camera to do the beauty of God's creation justice. Fall Colors

We took the kids (and Cousin Spencer) to the Mt. St. Helen's Visitor Center for a school field trip to learn about volcano's and mountains. We had a lot of fun learning about the mountain and the explosion on May 18, 1980. I was six when it blew and scared out of my wits (but that is another blog on another day).
We had fun walking on the trail around the lake and I was able to take a few pics of the beautiful fall colors.
