HOMEMADE LOFI PSYCH --- WHERE TO START?

"There is so much great music here..." WHERE TO START???

I recommend to
start with the HLFP-Samplers (especially HLFP 04).
Here you will come to know many of the bands/musicians featured in this blog. If you like what you hear, you may check out more of their music later on.
(You may also click on the picture on the sidebar and you will find the original post with download links.)

There is also a "FOCUS ON..." section. Here you will find albums that imo are absolutely great (***** = "five-stars-recordings") and that are essential listening and strongly recommended for download.

I TRY to RE-UP some stuff that has been down from time to

time, but I still don't have enough time to

listen to/post much new stuff.

Sorry!

Bird From The Abyss - III (FINL. 2010)

In March 2009 I posted the extraordinary first ep album by BIRD FROM THE ABYSS from Finland (get it here!).
This here is already the 3rd release. It is (was?) also available as a limited run on 3" cd-r.

So expect some more fuzz and ritualistic sounds,
"ancient arts of primive wizards and shamans combined to modern sound of the fuzz guitar..."
(from BFTA website)
Enjoy!

Necro Deathmort - This Beat Is Necrotronic (UK 2009)

NECRO DEATHMORT's music is a great weird mix of mostly instrumental doom and electronic music and ambient soundscapes. Surely no easy listening!

Q: Where exactly are you from? Do you want your real names mentioned? If so: what are your real names?

A: We are Necro Deathmort from London, and we are a two-piece "band" consisting of AJ Cookson and Matthew Rozeik.

Q: How recorded? Who played what?

A: We use a computer to make everything - no amps, no real drum kits etc. Matt and I both play guitar and splice beats and use any effects we can get our hands on.

Q: When recorded? Influences? Future plans?

A: We put this album together from a stack of material we had come up with over a year or so that reflected our passion for heavy and interesting music of many genres (Autechre, Sunn o)), Neurosis, JK Broadrick, Ulver, Dalek, even UK dubstep). - After the guy who runs Distraction (UK label) heard it he wanted to put it out there and since then we've had a lot of encouraging press etc. Our debut gig is on Feb 10th 2010 at the Scala in London supporting Ulver and hopefully more gigs and releases are in the pipeline.

Q: Any previous bands/side projects worth mentioning?

A: Meanwhile, Matthew has a "proper" band who play live a lot in London, called Astrohenge (http://www.myspace.com/astrohenge) and I work in a few different projects, namely Sol Invicto, a metal drum and bass project, which features Steph from the Deftones on guitar and also Medes (http://www.myspace.com/medesmusic) which is just me and a guitar/laptop!

Q: Website, myspace?

A: http://www.myspace.com/necrodeathmort

Q: Anything that you think is interesting, that you'd like to inform the blog readers about...

A: We continue to record and make music, hopefully there will be another album out this year and some festival slots to arrange... Our myspace is (http://www.myspace.com/necrodeathmort) and the album is available on iTunes and the Distraction site - (http://www.distractionrecords.com/). Feel free to put the free link up but if peeps want the proper cd they should get it from Distraction. It has great artwork by Dom Hailstone who did an Isis and a Mogwai video...

(Thanks to AJ Cookson for the info via email)

Coreopsis - Time-Lag Guitar Figures (2008)

Since April 2008 there is a guy from New Hampshire out there, who runs a blog and posts music recorded by himself under the name of COREOPSIS (before he deceided to do a name change in October 2008 - now: ARHA - because he found out, that there existed a metal-core band from Texas with the same name).

COREOPSIS/ARHA is heavily into experimental music - from dark ambient to neofolk, to psych guitar to (mostly) noise and doom. The thing I'm going to post here first is rather "tame" in comparison to most of the other works by COREOPSIS/ARHA: "Time-Lag Guitar Figures"

"As the last Coreopsis release (before making the switch to my new name, Arha) I have indulged my delay fetish to the utmost. Flanged multi-tracked psych freakouts galore!"

Nevertheless this stuff surely isn't for the rock enthusiast... this isn't "rock music" - it's experimental music, at times rather heavy and quite dark, though sometimes there are also some gentle moments to be found (e.g.: 'Rusted Overture'). Very trippy, far out stuff! Enjoy!

Leonel Garcia - The Black Lagoon (2009 Puerto Rico)

You all will probably know LEONEL GARCIA - at least you should. Some of his work was posted earlier on this blog, and Leonel is also featured with a fantastic psych track on the 2nd HLFP Sampler EMBRYO THOUGHTS.

This recording here comes as a big surprise - it's a lot heavier than most other records Leonel has posted on his blog in the past. He calls the "Black Lagoon" his second heavy rock album and he also says he was listening to BLACK SABBATH's "Master Of Reality" a lot in December 2008 and that it showed.

I agree - the whole album sounds like a BLACK SABBATH hommage to me; very well done, great guitar work, especially on the last, more experimental track, my favoutite one, the long song "Ritual"; great riffing all the way. The drum sound could probably be better, but then: I know how difficult it is to record a good drum sound, especially if you are recording everything by yourself, and Leonel says he didn't use a drum kit and played computer drums (Reason 4.0) instead. So don't let this stop you from downloading this heavy rock masterpiece. Also Leonel is no OZZY OSBOURNE, but that fact is surely part of the special charme of "The Black Lagoon"

I myself am also listening to SABBATH quite a lot these dark winter days - it somehow seems appropriate. And so Leonel's album comes just right in time...
Enjoy!
