HOMEMADE LOFI PSYCH --- WHERE TO START?

"There is so much great music here..." WHERE TO START???

I recommend to
start with the HLFP-Samplers (especially HLFP 04).
Here you will come to know many of the bands/musicians featured in this blog. If you like what you hear, you may check out more of their music later on.
(You may also click on the picture on the sidebar and you will find the original post with download links.)

There is also a "FOCUS ON..." section. Here you will find albums that imo are absolutely great (***** = "five-stars-recordings") and that are essential listening and strongly recommended for download.

I TRY to RE-UP some stuff that has been down from time to

time, but I still don't have enough time to

listen to/post much new stuff.

Sorry!

The Kadeem Ward Project: Dilemma Of Dispersal & Aging (Or A Continuum To Departure) (2015)

Here is what a guy called Kadeem sent me:

I'm a 23 year old solo artist residing in Barbados, an island in the Caribbean where the music created is often discredited and undervalued.

My latest full-length can be heard via these links:
https://musicbykadeemward.bandcamp.com/album/dilemma-of-dispersal-aging-or-a-continuum-to-departure
Or
http://youtu.be/5Sik-_iQrJU

I encourage you to take the time to listen to what I have to offer, as I believe you may very well be intrigued.

Regards,
Kadeem

If you like improvised long psychedelic rock sessions, you should have a listen.

My favourite track is:

RE-UP by Request: Captain Fartfish And His Careful Muffins - Live, Woodstöckchen 1987 (GER.)

CAPTAIN FARTFISH AND HIS CAREFUL MUFFINS was a psychedelic jam band from Germany, operating between 1987 and 1989 in the Odenwald area near Darmstadt. The three man band was heavily influenced by ZAPPA (especially Zappa's guitar playing – and also his humor), CAPTAIN BEEFHEART AND HIS MAGIC BAND (around his most experimental phase, 1969) and Free Rock/Free Jazz (in the mood of early GURU GURU for example).
What makes this band so special is the excellent guitar playing of both Holger B. and Daniel P. Caesar (later SUPERKING & THE FIRE ACTIONORANGE among others). It's most of the time quite heavy (the brilliant "Shotokan") and/or very experimental ("Little Insects...", "... Deep Sea Fish").

Another weapon especially for this gig here was the trombone played in an unnerving Free-Jazz-CAPTAIN BEEFHEART-style ("The Captain Whips It Out"...).

The Woodstöckchen (= Little Woodstock) was a small (private party) underground festival, May 1987, in some vineyards near Heppenheim an der Bergstraße. Imagine an improvised stage in front of a small crowd of chatty stoned local freaks in the sunshine and you will get the picture...

RE-UP: Orange - Open Air Flörsheim 1995 (GER)

Another Re-up of some stuff by the German Psychedelic grunge/experimental band ORANGE.
Here you'll have the chance to hear the music of their 2nd demo IN THE GARDEN OF THE DEMON KING (see below) live. Enjoy!

ORANGE live at the Open Air Festival Flörsheim, 07-28-1995. This is the complete gig.
Has probably the longest version of "NEIL'S ELEVATOR". There's a small cut at around 22.50 min, but it is hardly noticeable. "Souldrive" is – like in the most versions at that time – included (23.34 until 28.47).
This version here was dedicated to the Frankfurt avantgarde, impro experimental band LAY DE FEAR,that also included MEMBER at that time, a friend of the band and now - together with STOLLE - the heart of the emptyblaukraut-blog. (Read the comment in the original post to learn more about LAY DE FEAR and its side projects.)
You can hear Denner, the drummer and occasional singer and guitarist of ORANGE, mumbling "lay de fear... lay de fear" at some point (at 14.34) in the middle of the free form freak-out part of "Elevator" (starting at 10.58). Also you may notice the beginning of SUPER KING & THE FIRE ACTION's song "Breathing Soft 'n' Slow" shortly later... (at 15.26).
Suse surely must have been very hungry on that day, 'cause in the surrealistic spoken passage she raves about eating and food all the time. e.g. a cake baken by squirrels or apples from an apple tree...
The free form freak-out part has never again sounded so far out, reminding of the strangest GRATEFUL DEAD space explorations, mixed with early krautrock noise improvisations... A true listening adventure!
ORANGE played as the opening act at the two day Festival nearby Mainz and Frankfurt a. M., which also featured the old krautrock veterans GURU GURU – not an easy task to do, but they did quite well and also returned to play "Idiot in Bed" as an unplanned encore. This version here is a very good example of how ORANGE always changed their songs in order to keep the material fresh to themselves and their audience. Watch out for the improvised middle part of the song after the line "Now I'm on my way..." (at 4.18), that demonstrates the rush of the drug hitting the character of the song...
Taken from the original 2-track stereo soundboard mix, excellent sound.

ORANGE - Flörsheim Open Air 07-28-1995
(mp3-zip, 6 songs, 72 min, 99 MB, art incl.)
1. Orange (= In The Garden Of The Demon King) - 7.37
2. Brown - 5.24
3. Love In The Suffer Room - 3.12
4. Tryin' To Be A Good Human - 5.29
5. Neil's Elevator (incl. Souldrive) - 34.13
6. Idiot In Bed - 12.38

RE-POST: Szbutä Soröh - Om Shiva (BZ 2007)

SZBUTÄ SORÖH is a Brazilian one-man experimental/noise music project. So guys please notice: THIS ISN'T ROCK MUSIC!
The man behind these amazing recordings from 2007 is SAMUEL MACEDO from Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Samuel uses a variety of different instruments and many different sources for his music, ranging from bamboo flutes, acoustic and electric guitars to field recordings, that afterwards are manipulated through computer processings.
The music generated that way is quite a rewarding adventure, taking the suprised listener through all kinds of different moods and atmospheres. Listening on headphones is recommended!
If you like the music, please support the artist! Visit Samuel's site:

Catasto Elettrico - Ian Carr Requiem (IT 2010)

RE-UP: Catasto Elettrico - Gas (IT 2007?)

CATASTO ELETTRICO is an improvisational Italian band, that retired from playing live to concentrate on recording improvised sessions very much in a jazzy progressive style (with some indie influences). This session here, "GAS", reminds me a little bit of TORTOISE in some aspects and very much of the early SOFT MACHINE (just listen to that fuzz bass!), which is meant as a BIG compliment of course.

If you like their sound, you can go and visit their blog, where they offer some of their great music to download for free. Enjoy!
Or check out some of their other releases here on HLFP!

By the way: Don't let the cover fool you – this isn't beer drinkers' music!

Glen & The Boys - Blue Silhouettes Eight Baller Party (USA 2008)

From Long Island, New York, come GLEN & THE BOYS.
They've been playing for around 5 or 6 years, but have only played a handful of live shows. Similar to THE WHEN MCGRUFF WAS KING from New Jersey their music is completely improvised.

"The band has, however, generated a large library of homemade recordings exploring a wide range of musical styles. Most of our pieces are improvised and feature anywhere from 2 to 10 instrumentalists. Please visit our website! We have lots of music to share for free... I'll bet if you dig deep enough, you'll find something you like!"

"Blue Silhouettes Eight Baller Party" is "us playing near a highway at my little brother's party, spring 2008".

Laundryscope - Live March 2010

This here is a 70 minutes live performance by HOUSTON's drone rock/noise/experimental improv band LAUNDRYSCOPE, recorded in March 2010.

Very atmospheric, cool stuff!
Don't expect any "rock music" here!
This is, hmmm ... post rock space sound!

"We are from Houston tx, we use fake names which are Tones Montgolfier - Guitars,Touch Conners - Guitar, and Morton Hurley - Percussion, and recording embellishments. These songs are recorded on a Digital recorder. We have 2 cdrs and one cassette which is Laundryscope (the live recordings) Plus d'improvisations cdr, and Laundryscope/Gst Cassette, all these are self released in small #'s. We started this band in early 2010. We would label our music as improvisational, and we are music nerds with too many influences to mention. Our Myspace is: Myspace.com/laundryscope. We would like people to know that we don't take things too seriously we are just starting out and having fun but any support would be appreciated."

"Are y'all gonna play a song or just fuck around?"
"Play some Robin Trower!!" -
dude at ARCHIE's"

"
Man, y'all sounded like an orchestra, it was like pink floyd, man, you know?, it was nice you know but i kept wanting to hear, you know, like this voice, it was good, but you know, I just kept waiting to hear this voice, but what do I know, I'm just an old fucker" - old fucker at ARCHIE's

"
It's a miracle, my gout is cured, Thank you Laundryscope" - Mabel

Visitor: Farewell Ole #542 - Tragical Misery Non-Tour (USA 2010)

Farewell Ole #542 - Tragical Misery Non-Tour
recorded live jan/feb 2010 - Decatur, Georgia
engineered by Blake Helton

"Mellotron M400 #542: My time with the old gal had come to an end and I wanted to send her off properly. So I set up a handful of dates for my favorite friends/ conspirators to come play and whomever showed up, that's what went down. Pretty much hit record and go. No discussion of key or instrumentation, just listening and unspoken dialogue. All involved are superb improvisers coming in with all kinds of influences, from free jazz to ambient to 70s prog and all points between. I only wish I had done this a long time ago! I have recorded with the melly plenty over the past 10 years, but these collaborations/explorations were particularly special to me."
(Blake Helton via email)

If you like the space excursions on HLFP 05 SPACE IS STILL THE PLACE (where one track, Cosmic Lumberjacks, from this session is featured) or you love early electronic "kosmische Musik", especially TANGERINE DREAM, CLUSTER and KLAUS SCHULZE, you should definitely give this one here a try!
