Ted, Just Admit It...
I thought I'd switch gears real quick and upload what I feel is a rather important piece of out-of-print literature - the 1981 biography by Ted Bundy's ex-girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer. Under the pseudonym Elizabeth Kendall (she was also known as Beth Archer or Meg Anders) she writes an absolutely compelling diatribe about living with someone who was at the time brutally murdering innocent women while appearing as an absolute snapshot of normalcy. He's as insecure and flawed as any of us - likes Mickey's malt liquor of all things! The book follows their relationship through the 1976 Utah trial for Carol DaRonch's attempted kidnapping and ends with some sporadic contact after his escape to Florida. Kloepfer is incredibly honest - her struggles with alcohol alone are almost worthy of a novel - much less living with a serial killer. Essential reading. I also included an audio recording of Ted Bundy's Fatal Addiction interview with evangelist James Dobson the day before his execution, January 23, 1989. Ted is annoyingly self-serving and indirectly absolves himself under the guise of blaming pornography and slasher movies for his actions. Yeah, I know he is scared of dying in 24 hours but have some self respect and take some ownership for shit's sake. There's a great moment where a phone rings in the background and he pauses. Nope, it's not the governor motherfucker, execution is still on schedule. He doesn't answer any specific murder questions - primarily 12-year old Kim Leach which is frustrating (he claims he "can't really talk about that right now") which would have satisfied the whole reason for the interview - instead he kind of tries to make it seem like the pain is a burden he's carrying. Fucked up shit. Enjoy.

Allin Autobiography
How else to start off the year right then with some essential literature penned by punk rock's preeminent Public Animal #1? Introducing the closest thing to a memoir about the infamous scumfuc, GG's autobiographical "America's Favorite Son." Written much like a schizophrenic diary (Allin has the annoying habit of casually traversing from the first to third person) it is somewhat difficult to read at times - the single-spaced typewritten pages are murder on the eyes (as is GG's antipathy for punctuation). Regardless, it is still a fascinating book, a must-have for any serious fan. Spanning from early childhood to his 1989 arrest in Ann Arbor, the stories are both hilarious and sobering. GG names names and doesn't censor the details for anyone's benefit, even his own. The Jabbers stuff is fantastic - the stories of the band struggling to stay together once GG decided to do his own thing are a real treat. My only complaint with "America's Favorite Son" is the lack of detail once GG began to devolve in the late 80's. Of course this is easily explained by the increase in his boozing and blackouts during that time but I wish more than a couple pages were dedicated to the recording of Freaks, Faggots Drunks & Junkies (heck, Suicide Sessions is mentioned only in passing). GG must've eventually sold his typewriter as the last 30 or so pages are handwritten (and I was complaining about the typewriter?) - I am happy to report that someone with a lot of patience has actually transcribed the entire book into a much more legible PDF format. And what a cover photo to boot. I included in the download file a few bonus PDFs. One is of a 1991 xeroxed press book distributed by Allin while he was floating around the country skirting parole. I got it via G-O-D from the excellent Media Christ blog who actually got his signed copy from Allin himself. A lot of the material we've seen before but it's still a cool compilation to peruse through. For completists out there, I also included a PDF of Evan Cohen's "I Was A Murder Junkie" to cover the last 5 months of GG's all-to-short life. So kick your feet up by the fire, grab yourself a steaming mug of Jim Beam and drift off into literary bliss.

Scanner Scumfuckin'
Going through a big trunk of shit in the attic trying to find some "treasure" that may or may not end up on eBay, I came across a pile of GG Allin flyers, info packets, letters, etc. compiled decades ago that I felt warranted a trip to the ol' Epson. First off is Bloody F. Mess's seminal Hated In The Nation #2 zine, sent to me by GG himself in response to a sadly pathetic fan letter - what an awesome surprise nonetheless. Say what you want about the guy but man, GG didn't fuck around when it came to answering mail - stickers, flyers, whatever - right back at ya before the week was out. Next up is some type of court document covering the infamous Ann Arbor "Leslie Incident" - it lists as 10 pages but I only had 9. Interesting, it includes the police report as well as both GG and Leslie's version of the episode. Finally, it wraps up with some shrink's clinical impressions of the Public Animal, needless to say it is not particularly complimentary. Finally, I pulled together bunches of other random shit amassed by myself and other fans and ended up with a 60-page scrapbook of interviews, trial reports, flyers and obituaries. Most is from the latter part of his career with the Murder Junkies but there are some choice nuggets from the old Scumfuc days. Especially worthy of note are the two interviews from Sound Choice and Nuthing Sacred zine - intelligent discussions which don't just focus on "how many dogs have you fucked?" All three files are in PDF format for your viewing displeasure. Enjoy.

Live Fast Die Fast
As if followers to this blog couldn't tell, I was a pretty big fan of ol' GG Allin back in the day. I don't know what it was like for the rest of his limited audience in the mid-80's; but for me, being a GG fan was a really personal, introverted thing. I didn't know anyone (even remotely) who'd heard of the guy and the few friends whom I interested with his profanity-laden lyrics steered clear when they actually heard the music. I got all the weird looks and heard all the comments raging from "dude, this isn't even music" (this coming from a guy who thought the musical world peaked with Boston in 1976) to "how do you get off listening to this awful rape rock?" (thanks mom). Taking the NJ Transit into the city to catch his occasional show was a fucking lonely rite of passage, it's not like you're gonna make any new pals sitting around in a dark club at one AM waiting for a guy to smear shit on himself. As the 80's ended it was painfully irritating as the 2 Live Crew controversy raged via evening news as if those Miami boys had really broken some boundaries... I would stare at the endless MTV coverage and be like "so???" Wow, putting porno to music - who gives a shit. I gotta give Luke Skyywalker credit though - at some point in his Banned In The USA videotape (kudos to my bro for stealing that shit from Sam Goody) he actually comments how preposterous the furor over his music is when you got some bands singing about "sticking crosses in nuns private parts and shit" - an obvious nod to GG's "Stick A Cross Up A Nun's Cunt" from his watershed Suicide Sessions. Look at the big brain on Luke! Regardless, I amassed a pretty sweet collection of GG stuff back then (long since sold to buy beer) so I started compiling a fanzine in the style of Bloody F. Mess's inspirational Hated In The Nation zines. It was slow going trying to piece everything together, after quite a bit of work I had something like six pages. And then GG got arrested, and arrested again, and Hated came out, and then he died. Within a short 3 years GG became as mainstream as the Dead Kennedys, opening up a waterfall of media coverage (imagine what his trial would have been like today with 24-hour news channels - sheesh) and great fodder for a zine. All of a sudden I had a 36-page volume called Live Fast Die Fast which was thankfully picked up by GG's pal Skeeter for distribution. I recently found the master templates (including 2 pages which have never been seen before) so I decided to scan them in for posterity's sake and make a PDF. Some pages came out great while others reek of my frantic obsession with filling up space - regardless of chronology. And my little blurbs are kinda retarded but basically hold the whole thing together (interesting to note how through some of the mag GG wasn't dead yet so I use the present tense - weird) so I'm not that embarassed to offer it up to all you sick fuckers. Enjoy.
