TAKE THREE HUNDRED AND NINE a

The Thursday Challenge theme has been set on 'hold' until Jan 1st; with SOME OF MY FAVOURITES being the prompt.

In essence, MY TAKE is a daily presentation of the best of (and therefore, by default) MY FAVES!!! Do I find myself going back and looking at any in particular?  hmmmmmm....

TAKE FIFTEEN

TAKE FIVE - the first 'SUNday'...

TAKE FORTY ONE - Critters are always a fave!!!

TAKE TWENTY THREE - such special memories...

TAKE 232 - I miss my exotic birds...

TAKE 287 - I miss my golden girl...                                    TAKE 272 -  I love macro...

I could go on and on and on and.... why not take a look through the 'previously on My Take' tool (side bar) and let me know which are YOUR favourites out of my favourites???

TAKE THREE HUNDRED AND TWO a

For the Thursday Challenge this week the prompt is HUGE... update just prior to linking at TC,,, the theme has been changed to become MY FAVOURITE PHOTO for the Thursdays up to Jan 1st 2015... oh well... these are posted now ... so let's say these are among my many faves and we'll take it from there...

Bigger than your average gold fish, these giant carp were in the large pond system at Sydney's Chinese Gardens in Darling Harbour... taken years ago with the Uniden.  Most of them were about two feet in length!

TAKE TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY FIVE a

For the Thursday Challenge this week we are to approach things MINIMALLY - whether that be a simple subject, or basic and simple photography...

When the 'Nik' was still quite young and feeling fit, it worked on this Scribbly-Bark Eucalypt...

The next is one of the first images taken with the 'Fudge'... on auto scene mode it tends to make things 'blue'.

Have been fiddling and faddling with all the dials and buttons and there are a few decent shots coming out of the new tool... Will be using up the stock from the 'Nik' but gradually the 'Fudge' will take over.

TAKE TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTY EIGHT a

Over at the Thursday Challenge the prompt for this week is LEAVES - which of course has a lot of scope!!!

(Have just rec'd my new camera and it is in 'practice' mode at the moment so have gone to the archives for this one.)

This imposing Sydney Blue Gum throws its leaves high above all the others around, making a tracery against the sky; whilst the ones beneath, leave their traces upon its trunk.

Taken with the 'Nik' on manual mode, B&W, ISO100.

The one on left was taken with the Minolta on Lord Howe Island, an apparently dead tree producing leaves; and the second was taken with the 'Nik' just a couple of weeks ago.  It is not a night shot.  That was half past the midday hour. The general lighting of that sky, though, made what remained of the autumnal growth seem bright!

Now, it is also LAST THURSDAY and round here that means going a bit wild with the photo processing......

In fact, no tampering with the piccies as such, just putting another collection of 'leaves' together for a tile of interest. These were all taken with the Uniden  and are from Australia.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO MY U.S. 'TAKERS'!!!

TAKE TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTY ONE a

Thursday Challenge has asked that we post something ARCHITECTURAL. Anyone who has hung around here long enough knows that is a very very very favourite subject of YAM's!!!

I was keeping this one for my Saturday Symmetry posts... but it was itching to show off here!!!

Close up on the Aberdeen Port Authority building, take with the 'Nik' in monochrome, manual mode at 200ISO.

That reflective panel is something else!!! The lamp posts show how whacky this is.  I love it.

TAKE TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY SEVEN a

AARRGGGHH... Either I didn't see some small print on the previous week, or things changed suddenly - but TC changed the week for this theme... am keeping it in place though and they can have a double whammy next week!!!

PINK!!! Over at Thursday Challenge, the prompt is for something PINK....ugh, thought I, not a colour I favour on the whole.

Then realised that on a recent train trip when approaching the Forth Rail Bridge, the caste of colour in the gloomy weather combined with angle through the carriage window had just a hint of pink.  It didn't take much to tweak that out a bit more, then play around with the tilt ...

...thus an otherwise wasted shot found some purpose!!!

TAKE TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY a

Once again Thursday Challenge is here and our prompt is MONEY (bills, coins, something valuable...)

The opulence of Hindu festivals takes some beating!

This was an extra special one... the official opening of a new mandir (temple) on the grounds of Chinmaya Mission Vibhooti Ashram in Kolwan (near Pune).

As you will note, it is dedicated purely to Lord Ganesha.

The building and all within it was made possible by world-wide fundraising, much of the investment coming from overseas devotees, as well as the many, many within India. Some donations could only be the price of some fruit. Others, the price of a car.

The greatest value is in the giving.

These photos were taken with the old Uniden digicam and without flash...

NOW - it is also Last Thursday - my day for going a bit daft with the imaging software. Looking out my window last week all I could see was grey.  Then the sun peeked out.  I decided to play.

23 October 2014

TAKE TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY THREE a

For the Thursday Challenge this week we are to present HOME (house, apartment, caravan...)

That's my place, middle level on the right.  Not the whole thing... the windows tucked in behind the street lamp, barely visible.  The 'for sale' sign marking the spot.

I hadn't bought it at this stage.

Four weeks later it was my very own.

It took a lot of effort and about four months to get it to this stage. As you see, when the sun shines it's a veritable solarium.  It is the most recent of many places called as home. From caravan  to bungalow, to house; from tent, to bunk room, to ashram 'cell'... All hold a part of me and part of them is in me.

Home is where the heart is...and my heart is in 'OM'.

TAKE TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY SIX a

Thursday's always bring a challenge; from a prompt word, what can we picture?  The word this week is HAPPY (smiles, events etc)

For this I am entering some random choices from time spent at Sandeepany Sadhanalaya, Mumbai; a spontaneous selfie with the webcam... group efforts for a music workshop (the Uniden handled by another)...one of the 'little brothers' enjoying monsoon (the 'Nik' on auto)

TAKE TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY NINE a

Over at the Thursday Challenge we have been asked to present you with something SHINY (reflection, mirror...)

That pretty much covers all options I think!  It was actually on here last year sometime, but in the original red and chrome version.  Tinkered a bit by paring the colour almost to monochrome, which alone brought out the extra glow.

Sun on bumper, Mumbai 2013, taken with the 'Nik' on auto and adjusted in FOTOR.

25 September 2014

TAKE TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE a

Each Thursday Challenge seems to arrive before the ether has cooled on the last one! This week' prompt is CLOTHES.

This was one I just had to take a crisp, fresh and to-the-minute TAKE, with the 'Nik' on auto everything, but without flash and under candescent light in the hall cupboard...yes it acts as my walk in wardrobe as well as storage.  You would be forgiven for thinking I had tinkered with this...this being "Last Thursday", but it was simply the prevailing light.  It just happens to have the hue of the dominant colour in my collection.  What can I say? Stay bright!!!

Now for the Last Thursday offering... a peacock at Taronga Zoo (Sydney) displayed his 'clothing' and FOTOR made sure it spun you out! (If you have an enhanced photo to share for the the last Thursday of the month, feel free to hyperlink in the comments box.)

18 September 2014

TAKE TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTEEN a

For the Thursday Challenge this week the theme is to be set around the colour BLUE.

This was taken through a car windscreen; it was clear but may have added to the blue-ish tint.  The sun was doing the rest of the work!

Taken with the 'Nik' on auto.

Then again, this was taken last week as the moon grew gibbous and the sun lingered below the horizon, giving the late evening (10pm-ish) lustre to the sky.

The hanging glasswork is also of blue.

Taken with the 'Nik' on nightscape mode.

One more for luck - the hydrangeas in my Sydney garden were absolute monsters - with lots of blue shades. Taken with the Uniden digicam on macro mode.

11 September 2014

TAKE TWO HUNDRED AND ELEVEN a

Over at Thursday Challenge, the prompt for this week's sharing is GARDENS.

Have gone to the archives for this week's offerings.  Above you see how art is merged with nature in Sydney's Botanic Gardens.  Couldn't resist a bit of nostalgia from my own (now-ex) Sydney garden...

04 September 2014

TAKE TWO HUNDRED AND FOUR a

Here we are at Thursday Challenge time again and the prompt this week is SPORT...

Spotted this lone para-surfer at Hunstanton, Norfolk; The Wash tide well out and the North Sea looking on the chill side but he was determined.  He did get going pretty well, but was rather far off and this was the best of the five or six shots I attempted...even with the lens out somewhat.

Taken with the 'Nik' on sports mode.

28 August 2014

TAKE ONE HUNDRED AND NINETY SEVEN a

Not only is it Thursday Challenge day again, but also Last Thursday with YAM.  The first has the prompt of SKY (or anything to do with...),  and the second is to pick an image and work it into another art piece with whichever software you choose...for fun, creativity and ...just because!

The sky images are all from India, taken with the 'Nik' on various settings... the montage has taken on an even more hazy effect than the original shots - not entirely sure why but is is not displeasing.

(c) Yamini Ali MacLean

This was created using PhoXo. The original is below.

(c) Yamini Ali MacLean
It was originally shot at Australian Reptile Park, Gosford, NSW with the Minolta digicam.

Please feel free to link up your Last Thursday shots - please respect that this linkup is for those who have placed an entry with Dale's Spunwithtears meme page today (or members of this site) and should show an image which you have reworked in photographic software. Let's have fun!

21 August 2014

TAKE ONE HUNDRED AND NINETY a

This week's Thursday Challenge is for anything YELLOW.

Have got plenty of that going on and have used the chance to make a collage...whilst the shots themselves are all as original from the 'Nik' on various settings, this piece is a hint at getting creative beyond the lens... Last Thursday at My Take is for those who like to have a tinker with the processor now and then! Start preparing...it's next week!

The Enchanter is moored at Port Bannatyne, Isle of Bute; the rain fellow on the remembrance rose in the Edinburgh garden; the sun set yellow over The Wash, East Anglia; the gorse bloomed bright this spring; the guernsey patterns flagged the exhibition at Sherringham, Norfolk; the bouquet honoured Easter...

14 August 2014

TAKE ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY THREE a

Here we are at Thursday again and The Challenge has been made.  The prompt?  WATER (shipping, sports, rivers, oceans...)

W A T E R...S H I P P I N G...!!!

Regulars will know by now that I am surrounded with the stuff.  What to pick.....

The Vital Spark is part of folklore in these here parts. The tales written were fictional - but based on some likely characters of the region - you only have to ride one of the modern ferries to meet the sort of personality! This vessel was used in the television series. Here she now rests at Inverary, unkempt and unused...

It's two weeks till Last Thursday, so here's one which has been 'adjusted'...get yours ready! (Could have used this for
Wings on Wednesday too - but have plenty where this came from...Eider Ducks on Dunoon Bay.)

...and just because I couldn'ae resist, please enjoy these Scottish Shanties and a tour 'doon the watter', given by the cast who had played in the original Para Handy Series - Dunoon gets mentioned here and there! (Sadly the Vital Spark herself was not used for this particular film - but if you are curious, follow the links at the end...)
