To Do This Week

After the TOTAL stress seems to be gone I can for once take care of Christmas cards.
Means a trip to the city. Or... DIY?  Either way I´ll then see our lille post office in Braunschweig Ringgebiet - this mural again is from Bayswater.

 And... well, where to go?

 Chewing Gum

In the 19th century, Mexican President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna asked the inventor Thomas Adam to produce rubber from a milky latex material from the Central American sapodilla tree, called chicle. The rubber did not prove successful, but Adam found another use for it."

Those Two... Who Is Barking?

Maybe you know these two from Facebook already, they make me smile every time, here is their story:

"An English Staffy named Peggy befriends a magpie - even producing milk for this little frail bird because she thought it was one of her babies.
Back in Sept 2020 Juliette & Reece were taking Peggy for a walk at the local dog park when they came across a weak lost little bird.
Aware not to interfere they watched and waited to see if the parents were close by , but after a long period of time it was very obvious this little vulnerable bird was alone & within a few hours the park would be full of excited dogs full of energy, so they decided to take this little one home.

'After seeking advice from wildlife carers we were able to nurse this little one back to health.

Peggy and Molly became the best of friends, always together, playing ball, exploring the backyard .

In August 2021 Peggy had a litter of 5 pups, Molly was right by Peggy’s side throughout the whole process.'

The duo became a little trio when they decided to keep the only girl and named her Ruby."

Soon we´ll wake up to this chattering every morning!

Aren´t they all too cute?

A final one I found yesterday at FB, bringing it to the point:

Acceptance and unconditional love....
And tri-lingual, did you hear? A raven he can imitate, too!
This is of course for...

 ...Eileen.

 Silly String

The fun sprayable string actually started as an experiment by Robert P. Cox and Leonard A. Fish in 1972 to build a device that could create an instant bandage around broken bones—medical professionals would be able to spray it over fractures. One of the 500 nozzles they tested accidentally sprayed the foam very far, and they turned it into a toy."

Is A Map A Sign? Of Happiness?

Erika reminded me of the map we had back in the day with this.

We started in Sydney - not the most clever idea, but, well, we were young.
We bought a car on day two and took off!
The red lines mark our route.

I was wondering why Dad let me take off with a much older man I hardly knew... just to find out "recently" Dad knew him for years!!! LOL.
They have been watching the stars together, Ingo wandered through my parent´s house whilst I was about or in my "kid´s room".

I am beyond thankful we were allowed to do this.
I brought back so much money we went a second time (we slept in the car in side streets, on rest areas.... cold, free showers etc, etc).

1999, after I´d graduated, we went again and boy, we had ALL the time on our hands but... internet??? Not available! We missed so much!
We landed in Perth and stayed in WA (Western Australia), NT (Northern Territory) and the Outback of both.

Can you believe how long ago that was?

I´d SO love to do it again! Live in "the dirt", be humble, sit and enjoy the light-clear skies.... The Southern Cross, all that.

Tom, hope this counts as "Sign of happiness" for your meme Tom´s Signs2.

Today I have another sign - I´d been warned.
People expect me to describe electrical stuff for maintenance-workers I never had in my hands (the electrical parts!!! Hmm, who knows about the workers?) - huhhh. The guys are from Czech Republic and don´t know the words in German. Hm. Neither do I... Fun times ahead (these men are super-nice!) - we do not have the words in English, either...
Think twice hopping on a tram in Graz...  (it´s but the electrical heating in a window).

I´ll study the technical drawings and hope for the best, wish me luck...
If ka-BOOM, my bad (kidding!)...
I´m a "trainee", remember... hilarious where life throws me at.

The Headless Ghost of the Spanish Governor Part II

When the governor, Juan Treviño, returned to his lover, she had already married another man and the love potion was ineffective. Treviño marched back to the witches and demanded a refund. When they refused, Treviño attacked them, whereupon they confiscated his sword and beheaded him. Since that day, his headless spirit has wandered the deserts of New Mexico, searching for his skull and the witches who kidnapped him."

A sign of help. Of fun in dark times.
What do you think of Zelensky´s suit? I´d really like to see your opinion.

To Marmite, haha...
To be honest... I have two MORE glasses of Vegemite as my friend´s wife thought I am starving and ordered more.
THIN. You spread it super-thin on your toast. Thinking of bringing them back to Perth!
Ingo hates Vegemite. It´s but me...

Can you imagine wearing such a "hat" all working day? I´d laugh myself silly!

Let us hope.... 💙💛

Oh, nearly forgot! The Padre made me remember this sign:

Sweet memories of mS, a nice colleague back in the day. I always got his car when he was not well or on holidays (a huge Volvo 70 with leather seats and all). We went to the Rocky Horror Show together, it was fun. I sadly lost contact.
He was my so-called "work-husband". We stuck together 9+ hours every working day - and he was sexy, too!
He always invited Ingo and once even "kissed his feet".
See, men and women can be but friends, if it´s a bit tough, LOL.

I´m With Bill!

The door-mat to our living room where I have my private PC and my work-place.
Ingo´s wish, the mat.

I am more...

Those are Elmo´s socks, knitted by Ingo´s late Grandma... soon it´s time for them to be put on! And think of her.... she was a very sweet lady.

See... Ingo is a fair man. He went with me to EVERY second hand book shop throughout Australia and... tadaaa:

James Blish, all 12 books! From the 1960´s! And more!

What we had to drink in 1999?

Drove me nuts! And despite I went to watch the darn movie with Ingo!
Seldom I can say that: I am too young, I was a kiddo when the movie was a hype and then too old to get it!

Well. We are Germans... Also I prefer this:

Maybe a story to come, but the title?

Yes, I´m with Bill! Please turn on the sound - it´s FUNNY!!!! BIG THANKS to Ingo who pointed me to this!!! In the unlike event you are not familiar: William Shatner (Bill) played Captain James T Kirk on the starship Enterprise. And note the tear in George Lukas´ eye, awww...
And the reference to Gene (Rodenberry)... 🥰🥰🥰🥰

LLAP!!!! (Live Long And Prosper)

He HAD to end with that!!! LOL.
Ingo´s Dad once asked what Ingo´s fav song was. Here it goes:

 The internet series:

Highway to Hell: Spooky Stories from Route 66

The grave of Billy Cook

Billy Cook Jr., a native of Joplin, Missouri, embarked on a terror-filled spree along Route 66 in 1950. After murdering six people and a dog, Cook was arrested and quickly executed in California. His body was returned to his hometown of Joplin for burial.

Unfortunately, Cook was also an outcast in his hometown, and the local church only agreed to bury his body if his grave remained unmarked. This fact seems to anger Cook, and locals say he can be seen standing at the edge of the church grounds (not pictured), fuming with rage."

Sign Of Thanks

Just found this on Transperth´s FB-place - well, I´m always louder, LOL! Some shout also "Cheers, mate!" - and one bus driver said to me "nighty-night, sleep tight!"
One sang a song to me!
Soon... soon...

How about in your place - do you give thanks to your bus-driver, say hello when hopping on?

Astonishingly here...

.... you do not greet the driver.

Wiki: "The Perth Central Area Transit (Perth CAT) system, or simply CAT, consists of five bus routes in the centre of Perth and three bus routes in Joondalup. CAT services formerly operated in Fremantle, and similar services exist in Rockingham (the City Centre Transit System) and Midland (the Midland Gate Shuttle)."

The service is FREE!!!!

This is for Tom´s Signs 2.

 Missouris 'Zombie Road'

If you're driving through Midwestern Missouri, you might come across a stretch of road called Lawler Ford Road. It's important to know what the locals call it: Zombie Road.

Why is it nicknamed Zombie Road? Well, first things first: There are no zombies. But there are plenty of ghosts! From a ghastly woman screaming at drivers from the window of a dilapidated house to a floating ghost light said to be the spirit of a girl hit by a train, it's hard to survive this stretch of road in your right mind."

And This Bee I Speak Of...

When I was little Biene Maja was on TV. She was a curious bee, had a friend who was a bit clumsy and not the brightest, Willi, and a grass hopper named Flip. The introducing song was fun and sung by Karel Gott.
Here is a link, English was not available, but in Portuguese it was.

There is no artist - this is again at the old Market Hall on my way home - but the name of the pear, German "Birne" is Maja - sounds nearly the same, Birne and Biene and made me smile big.

Not really artistic, but clever, huh? Here is the song, meet Maja, Willi, Flip and some other bug - see, the importance of bees was known already in the 1970´s:

The internet series:

Highway to Hell: Spooky Stories from Route 66

For many people, a road trip on the Mother Road, the legendary Route 66 in the United States, is a dream vacation. The route stretches from Illinois to California, and the rolling and ever-changing landscapes, the small and large towns along the way, and the simple joy of driving on one of the longest roads in the world make for a perfect adventure. Unfortunately, you can get more than just a thrill on Route 66. The legendary highway is infamous for its ghosts and winds through some supernaturally shady areas. For some, this might make the trip even more tempting, but for others, it might be a reason to forgo the trip altogether."

See more tomorrow...

Our parents gave me money to travel Australia (we lived in the car, we were cheap, Ingo and I) and Mom gave my lille Bro a trip on a motorbike on Route 66 in the United States.

He never went. He feared his English is not good enough.

Do you have any idea how much I wanted to slap him in the face?
(I didn´t live at home anymore at the time and learned only later).
A dream he just threw away out of fear.
And I bet. I DO BET. Whatever "bad" your English is... people would make an effort to help you... right? I helped raising my Brother. And obviously did a bad job.
He turns 48 soon. Slap him then?

Bee Maja sure would´ve hopped on the plane and bike!

The countdown to Creep:

Limpy organized another vehicle, a train!!!
We´ll soon hop on again, too, Ingo got this one:

We have our Transperth Smart Rider tickets ready!

Let It Shine

Look with what Ingo presented me! And the ole tissue-holder I kept saying "LOVE".
An original from former GDR, the lamp - and a memory of our travels throughout Australia!
We sure had a real one from "Germany" back then, it was smelly and sooting, this one is LED.

By chance - it really was a coincidence as I was looking up a recipe from Gennaro Contaldo´s book Limoni -  it became a wonderful scene, don´t you think?
Ingo didn´t like the mini lemon-plates, so they live here now - quite an ensemble, huh?
And yes, it has a usb-hub, too, the lamp!

Ingo got a hook so I can hang it on the very, super-uncomphy what do you call those seat-thingies that he put on the wall:

But from up there it´s blinding me.

Here you can see the size of the plate, Ingo got meat-salad and a fresh breadroll to share:

Haven´t had this in ages.

Early evening I took the lamp outside... it was summerly warm!! 27C/80F till into the night, sooooo wonderful!

Gaußberg is say 7 minutes on foot from here.

It was wonderful, likely it was the last day of summer 2025, sad Ingo didn´t want to join me. At least...

That´s life. Anyways...

Happy Sunday!
