Everyday Objects in cloth
I've been enjoying working on my series of everyday objects (you can see the series here). I made this quilt a few months ago, inspired by the series. It's currently hanging at the Front Porch Gallery, in Carlsbad, CA through September 4.
(The dress is from Secret Lentil)

Everyday Objects ~ my purse
So, the theme (which I chose) for The Sketchbook Challenge this month is everyday objects. My purse and it's contents certainly fits that theme!
And I'm taking Susan Sorrell's online class Sketch'n Contour Embroidery . But I did her assignment wrong...
So I took my watercolor journal page and made it into a mixed media journal page.
I scanned and printed my original drawing (above) and collaged and tissue traced (as seen in my DVD preview clip here)
HOT summer giveaway continues on Jill Berry's blog today! (and don't forget you can leave a comment on my giveaway blog post until August 19.)

Everyday Objects Tell My Story
If you've been following along, you know I've been working on a series of sketchbook pages with the theme of everyday objects. And you know I started a fabric piece, in the way I work doing one piece at a time.
It's complete! It measures 34 x 15.5" and frankly, I'm quite pleased with it.
(I know you're going to ask, I got the giant safety pins here.)
Notice the teeny tiny buttons I sewed in the lace.
My art consultants, as I was working on the piece.

coffee spoons ~ Everyday Objects
We bought these spoons at a local craft fair. The handles are made from polymer clay. We use them every single day.
And yes, more Italian practice for Orvieto.

more everyday objects
Still working with my series of Everyday Objects.
La Sueglia means alarm clock, in Italian. But of course you knew that. Time to start thinking about my trip to Orivieto, Italy in 2012.

This is how I work
I work on one piece at at time and literally make each into a tiny quilt. Once they are done and hand stitched, I'll assemble them into one quilt. At least that's the plan.
(I'll be teaching some of this technique at Visions Art Museum, in San Diego next month April 4th & 11th.)

everyday objects ~ 6
In the evenings, when I have a glass of wine, I always have a little dish of salty snacks to go with. I find I've collected a number of small bowls for this purpose, each with it's own story. One of these is handmade, one a gift when I was in Italy last year (going again in 2012) and one I purchased because I love the color combination.

Everyday objects ~ four
I do some hand stitching nearly every single day. Why not own a beautiful pincushion (or two.) I get them from The Daily Pincushion.

more everyday objects
A pitcher from my collection, and a spoon. Spoons are so...comforting. I guess it's because we Westerners use a spoon everyday. What are your favorite 'everday objects?' I know candles are one of mine. and I do have a spoon holder in the kitchen I'm particulary fond of. I broke my recently purchased favorite wine glass, #%*&, so I won't be painting that... Tell my yours....

everyday objects
The pitcher on the right was my grandmothers. I have so few things of her's. I guess that's what starting me collecting tiny pitchers.
