I recently finished reading A Boy's Own Story by Edmund White. I'm no literary critic, and I'm not even sure how to write a book review. However, I know that I really liked the book. It is definitely literature, not a cheap easy read. The story is told in first person, the main character a young boy growing up in the 1950s, trying to come to terms with his homosexual desires. (I somehow got the impression it was the 1950s, but can't find confirmation of that now) The character rambles on about his life, his experiences, the people he comes in contact with. Though it rambles some, it held my attention. I ramble a lot myself, so maybe I'm used to that mode. Anyway, I liked the book, it made me think, and I recommend it.
