New Discoveries in Cornwall

Image
We've had a lovely holiday in my favourite place, Cornwall. While we were staying there this time, I wanted to visit the Eden Project, I've never been before. The biodomes were far bigger than I imagined. Their natural forms fit beautifully into the landscape. This Peruvian wall painting intrigued me. It was inside the rain forest dome along with the words below. Make of that what you will. I liked the pattern inside this tree trunk, nature knows how to make the best shapes doesn't it? I loved the beautiful yellow prairie plants. What lovely shapes they make against the dark interior of the hut. ♥ ♥ ♥ Right across from the other side of the Eden Project landscape I could see a giant steel man sculpture. He represents 'Adam'. Apparently ' Eve ' was there too but I didn't notice her. I'll have to go again and see all the things I missed the first time! We stayed in St Ives which you'd never guess from looking...

Inspired by Pretty Cottages

Image
As you can see from my photo above and the title of the post,  this is going to be all about my love of pretty cottages! I took this one above of Rose Cottage at Cockington Village near Torquay, I love the thatched porch don't you? Here's another from the same area, with a gorgeous garden too...  This next one that I took is in Lacock in Wiltshire. I can feel my heart beating faster just looking at the little leaded windows and the beautiful old stonework! If you've been to St Ives then you might recognise Norway House. (above) How sweet is that fenced garden with the tall hollyhocks?! Helford Village in Cornwall is such an idyllic place with thatched cottages nestled around the creek. It's the same area where the novel 'Frenchman's Creek' by Daphne du Maurier is written. I took this photo while on holiday in Cornwall last summer and I was reading that novel at the time so it made it even more enjoyable for me to see. ...

Cornwall and Back

Image
How did 2 weeks fly by since my last blogpost?! Things are still pretty busy around here and lots has been happening so let me tell you what I've been doing. Over the half term we had a few days away in Cornwall. We drove over to the Lizard Peninsula to Kynance Cove (pics above) and then along the coast to another beautiful cove that I haven't been to before called Poldhu Cove. I loved the caves there, I imagined I'd see a mermaid living inside one of them but alas I didn't this time. The same day that we arrived back home, we had a family celebration for Youngest Son as he's just passed his driving test and had his birthday too! I'm always inspired to paint when I've been to Cornwall and once the house was quiet again, I finished this painting.  It's called ' Looking Back '.  I love the combination of bright turquoise together with the the earthy tones of browns and I've had in mind to do a paintin...

Days and Evenings

Image
The evenings seem to be getting much darker now don't they? Today we had hot sun and then early evening, all of a sudden it seemed, the light was fading and then it felt fairly cold outside. I finally have to admit that autumn is in the air. I have rubbish lighting in the room where I paint so I prefer to paint in the daytime when I can see the colours properly. One day I'd like to have decent lighting so that I can carry on painting but for now, my evenings are the time when I do my knitting or crocheting. This is what I've been making. It's a little cardigan for my daughter's son. It turned out too big for him but at the rate he's growing it won't be long before it fits him! For my next project I have an idea of the colours I want to use and I've seen a pattern I like too. On the Ravelry website is says it's fairly easy to make but I think they mean it's easy for an expert and that's not me. I might have been a knitter f...

A Week in Cornwall ♥

Image
Hello bloggers! I'm sorry I haven't been out visiting your blogs for a while. I have a very good excuse you know :) because I've been away for a while in beautiful Cornwall discovering new parts that I haven't been to before! This top picture I took at the lovely  Prussia Cove. Here's where we stayed, Porthleven. It can get very windy here and the storms hit it very hard last winter. The weather was calm and warm most of the time while we were there, so I was able to walk along the coast path to take this picture of the town. My memory of the Lizard Peninsula is of dragging horizontal children through the wind to look at the view! It was actually Lizard Point that I'd been to before and this experience had delayed going anywhere near there again, so when I saw Mullion Cove for the first time last week I was amazed at how stunning it was! Mullion Cove was spectacular and I thought how it must be the best place around here, until that is, I ...
