"Apples and Blue Feather"

5" x 7" oil on Ampersand Gessobord
-SOLD-

I felt like this needed something different so I added the Blue Jay feather.  I have found and collected some feathers thinking I would paint them someday so you may see them show up again once in a while.

I looked up the symbolic meaning of feathers and it seems they can symbolize a lot of different things... all good.  It's believed that finding them can be a sign of encouragement as you philosophically travel on your path.  I like that one and can sometimes use some encouragement on this painting path!

I sold my painting that I donated to the Hurricane Sandy Fundraiser on The Daily Paintworks!  They have raised over $7,000 so far and still going!

  1. Kathleen, this turned out wonderfully well! Yday, I was reading about how subordinate elements are important to support the main element and your feather has done just that! I believe in the spiritual meaning of the moment of finding one in our path.
    Congrats on your sale!

  2. Wonderful composition Kathleen, the apples are amazing in texture and highlights!! The feather adds a lovely touch.I have found that angel feathers appear when I need reasurance, that everything is going to be alright. They are usually small, fluffy and white.

  3. Thank you Padmaja and Azra for your kind comments! There surely must be some spiritual meaning in finding feathers since they always brighten my outlook and mood. I also think they are absolutely beautiful!

  4. Blue Jay is symbolic of communication and may be signaling a time to open up more to inspiration and to the supernatural.

  5. This is a beautiful painting. I think the feather adds a spark of color and that appeals to me but you did such a great job on the apples that it still would a good painting without it.
I like what Padmaja said about supporting the mail element.
