Elektronika slash trip-hop slash ambient z solidnymi synthami, ale też chaotyczną, mocno psychodeliczną kompozycją i tribalowym klimatem. Album Lee Becka z Kalifornii jest krótki, ale dzieje się na nim bardzo dużo. Dwa kawałki kosztują tyle, ile chcesz zapłacić.

Misertus - Outland (2019) EN

This is another one solo project making quite a loud music this week. This time, it's Misertus run by musician known only as Tomas. The Manchester-based artist makes poignant post-metal strictly bordering with blackgaze, just like it does on his third album called Outland.

On one hand, the instruments on his album create a real metal fury, just like those angry vocals. On the other, the whole thing is composed in such a way that it blends into one dense, airy soup creating an elevating/energetic atmosphere with fantastic flow. This creates a situation when you listen to the whole album without blinking or breathing (such a great Blue Spirits!). Also thanks to the synths that add to the album's charm and tenderness.

Misertus - Outland (2019) PL

Kolejny w tym tygodniu projekt solowy, który gra dość głośną muzykę. Tym razem jest to Misertus muzyka znanego tylko jako Tomas. Anglik z Manchesteru tworzy przejmujący post-metal ściśle graniczący z blackgaze'em, tak jak pokazuje to na swojej trzeciej płycie Outland.

Z jednej strony instrumentarium na jego płycie to prawdziwa metalowa furia, podobnie jest z wściekłymi wokalami. Z drugiej - całość skomponowana jest tak by zlewała się w jedną, gęstą, eteryczną zupę tworzącą podniosło-energetyczną atmosferę z fantastycznym flowem, dzięki któremu słucha się całej płyty na jednym wdechu (znakomite Blue Spirits!). Także dzięki syntezatorom dodającym całości wdzięczności i delikatności.

Ciempiés - Larvae (2019) EN

Fran Düll and his project Ciempiés comes back with a new, very well done album. His solo post-rock makes an impression that is often not reachable for multi-members bands. And we can hear that on another, already eight album by the Spanish, called Larvae.

His music is very, very, very guitar. On the other hand, the musician skillfully juggles with post-rock  kinds so it's impossible to get bored. Sometimes the stage belongs to those very much solo-post-rock-like twanging in the acoustic-like way, sometimes he clearly goes further and harder. He also manages to put up the mask of the modern post-rock with so intriguing effects that they could as well be incorporated into the discography of one of the big post-rock bands - as for example in the album's opening track Erial. In general, the louder and faster, the more interesting it gets on this album.

Ciempiés - Larvae (2019) PL

Fran Düll i jego projekt Ciempiés powraca z nową, niezwykle udaną płytą. Jego solowy post-rock robi wrażenie, jakiego często nie robią wieloosobowe składy, usłyszeć można to na kolejnej, już ósma, płyta Hiszpana nazwana Larvae.

Jego muzyka jest bardzo, bardzo, bardzo gitarowa. Z drugiej strony muzyk umiejętnie żongluje w niej post-rockowymi nurtami tak, że trudno się nudzić. Czasem przewagę zyskuje typowe dla solowych przedsięwzięć brzdąkanie jak na akustyku, czasem jednak zdecydowanie naciska na pedał gazu. W końcu też ubiera maskę nowoczesnego post-rocku z intrygującymi efektami jakich nie powstydziłaby się żadna kapela - tak jest np. w końcówce otwierającego płytę Erial. Generalnie im głośniej i im bardziej podkręcone tempo tym na tej długiej płycie lepiej.

c a s h, 4lienetic - Abstract (2019) EN

c a s h appears on the blog regularly for some time now, but he's no longer a teenager from India, he moved to US and... released an EP with another Hindu neoclassical artist - 4lienetic. This is Abstract.

4lienetic is the stage moniker of Sugama Khetana from Mumbai, just like c a s h, he's keen on combining neoclassicism with ambient and... making a lot of music (he appears to create an album each year). The EP is in some places more neoclassically delicate just to surprise with electronic elements in other (as in somber), or with a clear and strong bass and beat (in helium). This make it very diverse, even for the border of genres it belongs to. But for me, it's still the most beautiful when focuses on the neoclassical atmosphere.

c a s h pojawia się na blogu od czasu do czasu, tymczasem przestał być już nastolatkiem z Indii, przeprowadził się do Stanów i... wydal EP-kę wraz z innym indyjskim neoklasycznym artystą - 4lienetic. Oto Abstract.

4lienetic to pseudonim sceniczny Sugama Khetana z Mumbaju, z c a s h-em łączy go zamiłowanie do łączenia ambientu z neoklasyką oraz... nadzwyczajna płodność twórcza (wydaje album co roku). EP-ka bywa więc bardziej delikatna od neoklasyki by w innych momentach zaskoczyć elektronicznymi elementami (jak w somber), albo wręcz mocniejszym basem i bitem (w helium), co sprawia, że nawet jak na pogranicze gatunków jest zróżnicowana. Ale dla mnie najpiękniej i tak brzmi wtedy, gdy skoncentrowana jest na neoklasycznej atmosferze.

Sana Obruent - Paratus Sum (2019) PL

Paul Lopez tworzący jako Sana Obruent pojawia się na moim blogu regularnie, niemniej wciąż nie mogę przejść obok jego nowych prac obojętnie. Tutaj w jednym, potężnie ambientowym i właściwie długim kawałku Paratus Sum. 

Artysta przyzwyczaił już do swojego ciężkiego od nakładających się warstw dźwięków ambientu. Jego muzyka nie tyle sprzyja refleksji co nią atakuje i przygniata, dla mnie bardziej niż relaksacyjne ma właściwości przygnębiająco melancholijne. I taka właśnie powinna być. Nie inaczej jest na tej, opatrzonej fantastycznym cover artem, płycie.

Sana Obruent - Paratus Sum (2019) EN

Paul Lopez creating his music as Sana Obruent appears on my blog in regular periods of time, but I still can't be indifferent to his works. Here, in one, massively ambient and accordingly long track called Paratus Sum. 

The artist has accustomed us to his heavy, multi-layered ambient. His music does not only promote self-reflection, it actually attacks with it and forces the audience to follow. For me it has less of relaxation-favouring vibes and more of gloomily melancholic ones. And so it should be. This one, decorated with some fantastic cover art, is no different.

HoneyHead - A Kind of Isolation/Stranger (2019/2020) PL

Rosjanie z HoneyHead wydali w ostatnim czasie dwa interesujące single/EP-ki, sam nie wiem czy to zapowiedź czegoś dłuższego, czy samowystarczalne albumy, w każdym razie, jest na czym ucho zawiesić. Oto A Kind of Isolation i Stranger.

Zespół udowadniał już na moim blogu, ze wie jak gra się zadziornego rocka bardzo mocno inspirowanego shoegaze'em. Przebojowe kawałki wypełniają bardzo rockowe, ale też gęste i obłapiające dźwięki gitar. Do tego dochodzi wysoki, nieco neurotyczny kobiecy wokal, co okazuje się być świetnym połączeniem. Sam duch rock-and-rolla to jednak nie wszystko, a najlepiej słychać to w głośnej i satysfakcjonującej końcówce Living in a Mess.

HoneyHead - A Kind of Isolation/Stranger (2019/2020) EN

The Russians of HoneyHead released lately two interesting singles/EPs, I'm not sure if it's an announcement of something longer or independent albums but they're definitely worth-listening-to. This is A Kind of Isolation and Stranger.

The band already proved on my blog that they now how to make heavily shoegaze-inspired cocky rock music. The catchy songs are filled with very rock-like, but also thick and sticky sounds of guitars. And there's also this high-pitched, a it neurotic female vocals which makes a great combination. But there's more than only a rock'n'roll spirit here, and it's best visible in the loud and satisfying finishing parts of Living in a Mess.

A Kind of Isolation costs 1.50 USD and Stranger costs 2 USD.

Beatastic - Diffraction (2019) EN

What's the simplest way to achieve success (at least in your own eyes)? "Doing the opposite of bands I don't like", as says Nicolas Pierre Wardell a.k.a. Beatastic, musician from Paris and making his music from Bristol. He has recently released an EP Diffraction in Shore Dive Records.

The artist is inspired by quite a number of music genres - from shoegaze to grunge, and no wonder his album is really diverse. You can notice there this shoegaze/dream pop's love for airy vocals and dreamy atmosphere, but also a lot of synthwave, post-punk and even oriental folk's elements. But still, it's mostly in the style of the oldschool, RIDE-esque shoegaze (this vocal, especially in Sky High!), and it's more than enough to be tempted to try the Frenchman's music.

Beatastic - Diffraction (2019) PL

Jaki jest najprostszy sposób na sukces (przynajmniej we własnych oczach)? "Robienie dokładnego przeciwieństwa niż zespoły, których nie lubię", tak mówi Nicolas Pierre Wardell a.k.a. Beatastic, muzyk pochodzący z Paryża a tworzący w Brystolu. Niedawno wydał w Shore Dive Records krótką EP-kę Diffraction.

Artysta inspiruje się wieloma gatunkami muzyki - od shoegaze'u po grunge, nic dziwnego, że wydał mocno zróżnicowaną płytę. Słychać w niej shoegaze'owo-dreampopowe zamiłowaniu do eterycznego wokalu i rozmarzonej atmosfery, ale poza tym dużo jest z synthwave'u, post-punku, a nawet z orientalnego folku. Najbardziej jednak przypomina to oldschoolowy shoegaze spod znaku RIDE (ten wokal, zwłaszcza w Sky High!), co jest wystarczającą zachętą żeby spróbować muzyki Francuza.

Nowa płyta z wytwórni City By Night Records to piękny i nastrojowy soundscape w wykonaniu dość tajemniczego projektu Jupiter Himself. Posłuchajcie Isolation.

To płyta z gatunku tych, których trzeba wysłuchać bo opisać ją ciężko. Na pewno prezentuje ona soundscape'y masywne od nawarstwiających się elektronicznych dźwięków, które generują w słuchaczu mieszaninę zachwytu i smutku. Artysta stojący za projektem umiejętnie je skomponował tak by stosunkowo niedługa płyta wydawała się wyczerpującą projekcją tytułowej izolacji. Słuchajcie w deszczowe wieczory.

The new album from City By Night Records makes a beautiful and moody soundscape made by quite a mysterious project called Jupiter Himself. Let's listen to Isolation.

It's an album that has to be listened to as it's difficult to describe it. Surely it shows soundscapes that are massive with the layers of electronic sounds generating a mixture of awe and sadness in the audience. The artist behind the project skillfully composed them so the not-so-long album would seems to be enough to describe the title's feeling of isolation. Listen to it during rainy evenings.

Lief Sjostrom - Boyish Dreams of Heroic Deeds (2019) EN

Lief Sjostrom, Denver-based cellist has appeared on the blog already and he's back and it's no wonder as I really dig his approach to neoclassical music. Now you can listen to it on his EP called Boyish Dreams of Heroic Deeds.

As could have been guessed, the album is based on cello's sounds but at least equally important are the looping effects transforming short phrases into whole backgrounds. Of course, it's nothing new, Julia Kent is a mistress here, but Sjostrom uses this effect in a particularly interesting way. Another characteristic of his music is the way he uses electric guitar that adds to the whole thing's character and dark atmosphere at the same time. That's why the album sounds in some places like a neoclassical soundtrack to some intriguing movie, in other, like excerpts from a discography of a post-rock band, especially in the noise-dirty Light Pollution.

Lief Sjostrom - Boyish Dreams of Heroic Deeds (2019) PL

Lief Sjostrom, wiolonczelista z Denver już się pojawiał na blogu, ale nic dziwnego bo jego podejście do neoklasyki bardzo do mnie przemawia. Tym razem można je podziwiać na EP-ce Boyish Dreams of Heroic Deeds.

Jak należało się spodziewać, płyta oparta jest na brzmieniach wiolonczeli, ale równie ważne są na niej loopujące efekty zamieniające krótkie frazy w tła całych utworów. Oczywiście nie jest to nic nowego, a mistrzynią jest tutaj Julia Kent, ale Sjostrom używa tego efektu w bardzo interesujący sposób. Innym znakiem szczególnym jest wykorzystanie gitary elektrycznej dodającej całości z jednej strony charakteru, z drugiej mrocznej atmosfery. Dzięki temu płyta czasem brzmi jak neoklasyczny soundtrack do jakiegoś intrygującego filmu, czasem jak wyjątki z dyskografii post-rockowego zespołu, zwłaszcza w zabrudzonym noisem Light Pollution.

MONO & A.A. Williams - Exit in Darkness (2019) EN

The Japanese MONO doesn't need to be introduced at all, similarly the British A. A. Williams got well-known partly thanks to supporting Cult of Luna on their last year's tour. Their collaboration seemed to me a bit off but swiftly turned out to be very good. The effects were released on a short EP called Exit in Darkness.

Two tracks on the album consists of both sensual and at the same time melancholic vocals by Williams and quite peaceful version of the Japanese' music. The latter took me by surprise as the length of the tracks seemed to be perfect for the band to turn them into the noisy hell MONO is famous for. Not here though. At first I considered it a flaw but I came to conclusion that it quite fits the overall ballad-dark-folk atmosphere. Because the two tracks make basically an extremely dark pop/folk in the backgrounds of which you can hear the familiar Sounds of MONO - this a bit chaotic, untamed post-rock that here decided to show its more peaceful, moody side.

MONO & A.A. Williams - Exit in Darkness (2019) PL

Japońskiego MONO przedstawiać nikomu nie trzeba, również Brytyjka A. A. Williams dała się poznać między innymi dzięki supportowaniu zeszłorocznej trasy Cult of Luna. Ich kolaboracja od początku wydawała mi się co najmniej dziwna, ale szybko okazała się również bardzo dobra, a jej efekty można usłyszeć na krótkiej EP-ce Exit in Darkness.

Dwa kawałki, które się na niej znajdują to z jednej strony zmysłowy, a zarazem niepokojąco melancholijny wokal Williams i dość spokojna muzyka Japończyków. Właśnie to ostatnie mnie zaskoczyło, bo wydawało się, że długość utworów predestynuje je do rozwijania się w hałaśliwe piekło, do którego MONO nas przyzwyczaiło, a tu nic z tego. Najpierw odbierałem to jako wadę, potem doszedłem do wniosku, że pasuje to ostatecznie do balladowo-dark-folkowej atmosfery całości. Bo oba kawałki to w gruncie rzeczy ekstremalnie mroczny pop/folk, w którego tłach słychać znajome dla wszystkich fanów MONO dźwięki nieco chaotycznego, nieposkromionego post-rocka, który jednak tutaj postanowił pokazać swoją spokojniejszą, bardziej nastrojową twarz.
