“You, doll-face. Why are you having a shitty day?”

I glared ahead. “Because you are screwing with my head. How come you keep saying things I don’t remember?”

“I told you. The Norns put a whammy on you.”

“Norns?”

“Deities of destiny. Mean, bitter hags. They control the destiny of all beings—Mortals, Immortals, even the gods. Interestingly, I just found out why they targeted you and erased your memories.”

“Why?” Not that I believed his rambling.

“Say please.”

I was tempted to ignore him, but something weird had happened to me and I wanted answers. I eased the car into a parking spot across from my school, switched off the engine, and turned to look at Echo. He was dressed in all leather again today. I realized that what I’d assumed was a leather shirt was actually a vest of some kind. Once again, he wore fingerless gloves and silver Gothic rings with weird markings.

“Please,” I said through clenched teeth.

He touched his lips. “I want a kiss, too.”

I narrowed my eyes. “Why are you such a tool all the time? You think this is fun for me? Not remembering things? Waking up one morning and seeing souls? Ending up in a psych ward, where they pumped me full of drugs, then coming home only to be met by you, a reaper?”

“Grimnir,” he corrected then frowned. “Are those the fake memories the Norns gave you? Psych ward? That’s just wrong.”

“I was in a psych ward,” I snapped.

He raised his hands. “Okay. No need to be snippy.”

“I’m not—”

He covered my mouth then smirked when I bit his hand. I bore down until I tasted blood. He didn’t even wince. His grin broadened instead.

“Drink my blood, doll-face. Bond with me for eternity.”

The thought was scary. I pushed his hand away and wiped my mouth. “Ew. Can your blood do that?”

He laughed.

“Will you be serious for even a second?” I asked.

“Don’t you want to be mine forever?”

“Ew, no.” I made a face. “I don’t even like you.”

TORIN’S SECRET

Okay, I know a secret stops being a secret once you tell someone, but this one will eventually come out, so I say why not it tell now. It’s not like the people involved have time to read blogs.

Before I start, let me explain. Valkyries work in pairs or groups of two. ”Why?”, you may ask. We split the souls. Half go to Valhalla and the other half goes to Falkvang. Grimnirs, or grim reapers, travel in packs and all their souls head straight to Hel’s Hall. They are competitive. They are mean. They are douchebags.  They get off on steals. When I say steals, I mean swooping in and nabbing our souls.

One in particular is a general pain in my ass. Echo, Hel’s number one reaper. Echo and his group of miscreants hold the best record on steals. They have never stolen one of mine, but they came close once. I vowed I’d snap his neck if he ever tries it again.

To cut the story short, he pulled a fast one on me. I was to reap a soul a few months ago, a soul so important to the gods I couldn’t even tell Andris about it. The soul was Echo’s to reap. When I arrived at the hospital, he was already there, waiting, playing one of his damn instruments. He does pretentious things like that. He knew why I was there. I could see it in his eyes.

I offered Echo everything, to help him reap a few hundred souls for him and personally escort them to Hel’s Hall. Anyone who knows me is aware I hate going to Hel. But Echo said no. I offered to round up runaway souls, ghosts as you humans call them. He laughed. I knew then he wanted something. When he said I owed him a soul, I thought he was bullshitting. No Valkyrie has ever willingly looked the other way while a Grim takes off with a soul slated for Valhalla or Falkvang.

I had no choice but to agree.

So there you have it. My secret. I owe a Grimnir a soul. No Valkyrie has ever done that. Worse, once a soul ends up in Hel, you can’t get it back. If anyone finds out, I’d get a one way ticket to Hel. I’m talking about being permanently stationed there as a guard. No more reaping. No more coming to earth. No more seeing the girl I love. I have a feeling Echo is going to make me sweat before he collects. But you know what? The soul I wanted was worth it.

Review:

Oh Ednah, you never let me down woman! I love it! I completely fell for Torin St. James in Runes, book 1, and I only fell harder for him in IMMORTALS. This book digs even deeper into the mythology aspect of this story, and we get more of Eriik! Which I loved, because well, Eriik is a great character.

I really enjoyed this follow up because Raine really gets to spread her wings. She goes after what she wants. She stands up and takes it like a man so to speak. Torin doesn’t remember her, and her efforts to jog his memory aren’t so successful, but Raine is one determined little thing. I love her spunk and drive. Even when you think she’s giving up, she gets a little jolt and goes right back to attacking the issue. And this time, the issue isn’t really Torin related. She’s so dedicated to her friends and family that it’s pretty inspiring, and when it comes to protecting those she holds dear, she won’t stop fighting. I can’t wait to find out what is in store next for this group of mythological entities.

Review:

Please give it up for my most favoritest lady in the wild and wonderful world of books, Ms. Ednah Walters, because well.... she's done it again. Yep, she rocked my socks off and left my chin on the floor. There may also have been some drooling over the oh-so-sexy Torin St. James and some huffing and puffing because I have to actually wait for book 2. I'm slightly impatient because I loved this book so much. But, I would expect nothing less from the fabulous Ms. Walters. (she might be cringing over me calling her Ms. Walters *giggles*). 

So, as many of you know I'm a totally fan of the Fitzgerald Family series, which is Ednah's Contemporary Adult Romance series (ps. she writes it under E.B. Walters and you should totally check it out), so it's probably not a surprise to you all that I would read her brand spankin' new New Adult Paranormal Romance. Let's face it, the woman knows her romance, and her audience. This book (soon to be series) is geared toward a bit of a younger audience with the characters being in High School.  Don't let the "New Adult" tag get to you, it's not synonymous with "smut". There is NO smut in this book. 

Now, there is SOME VERY SEXY MAN CANDY! Well, roughly (and I stress roughly) 19 year old sexy man candy. We're talking black hair and blue eyes (my favorite combination) on a Harley. Yeppers, this bad boy rides a motorcycle... also one of my favorite bad boy things.  And he has the cutest nickname for Raine. No I'm not telling you! You have to read it silly!

The thing that stood out the most for me about this book is the paranormal aspect. Yes, there are a lot of paranormal books out there, but the paranormal aspect in RUNES was so different from what I've read before. I don't want to give the surprise away, but I will tell you that I couldn't even begin to figure out what paranormal "thing" (for lack of a better term) Torin was or what his world revolved around. I tend to be a little disappointed when I can figure it out on my own or I feel like I know what's coming, but that was SO not an issue with this book. Ednah has done an absolutely fantastic job with this story!

Go on... you know you want to one-click it. And you definitely should. Every possibly buy link you could need is below, and I promise, you won't be sorry. And if you're one of those people who get green just thinking about how long you'll have to wait for the next book in a series, no worries, Ednah assures me that book 2, IMMORTALS will be out in July!
