DARK HALO (ANGEL EYES #3) By Shannon Dittemore - Blog Tour

Welcome to my stop on the Dark Halo blog tour hosted by  YA Bound Book Tours.  Click HERE to see the full blog tour schedule!

Release Date: August 20, 2013
320 pages

Summary from Goodreads:
One halo brought sight to Brielle. Another offers sweet relief from what she sees.

Brielle can’t help but see the Celestial realm. Even without the halo, it’s everywhere she looks. And with the heavens above Stratus ravaged by war, Brielle wishes for another gift, any gift. Because Jake is gone. The only boy she’s ever loved has been taken by the demon, Damien—and she knows if she ever wants to see him again, she must fight.

But fighting is so hard when everything you see makes you afraid.
When she receives instructions from the Throne Room leading her to Jake, she unknowingly walks into a diabolical and heartbreaking trap. Then the Prince of Darkness himself offers Brielle a halo of his own making. With the dark halo, she won’t have to see the fear and brokenness that surround her. She’ll be free of that unbearable burden. And it comes with a promise: the guarantee of a life with Jake.

When confusing details about Jake’s past emerge, and the battle above reaches a fever pitch, Brielle is forced to make a choice. Will she choose the dark halo and the ignorance that comes with it, or will she choose to live with her eyes wide open and trust the Creator’s design—even if it means a future without Jake?

Review:
This is an amazing conclusion to this fabulous series. There’s so much emotion and heart in this book, and the story and writing are just beautiful. Shannon Dittemore always impresses me with her fluid and sincere writing style. Dark Halo is probably the darkest of the three books in this trilogy, but the reward at the conclusion is worth every single twist, turn, and heartache.

Throughout the series, there have been so many questions. So many loose ends and what seemed like segregated story lines floated around in this mixture of supernatural experiences. Dark Halo finally pulls everything together and so many questions are answered, and much like Brielle experiences, there are surprises and even disappointments along the way.

This trilogy has truly been a journey for both the characters and the reader. I don’t think you can read the Angel Eyes trilogy without feeling every struggle and a sense of satisfaction at the end.

Although the story is dark and tragic at times, it’s a clean read suitable for young adults and adults alike. Don’t miss this fantastic conclusion to the Angel Eyes series and if by chance you haven’t read books 1 and 2, you certainly do not want to miss the engaging and powerful trilogy.

Summary from Goodreads:
Once you’ve seen, you can’t unsee. Everything changes when you’ve looked at the world through . . .

ANGEL EYES

Brielle’s a ballerina who went to the city to chase her dreams and found tragedy instead. She’s come home to shabby little Stratus, Oregon, to live with her grief and her guilt . . . and the incredible, numbing cold she can’t seem to shake.

Jake’s the new guy at school. The boy next door with burning hands and an unbelievable gift that targets him for corruption.

Something more than fate has brought them together. An evil bigger than both of them lurks in the shadows nearby, hiding in plain sight. Two angels stand guard, unsure what’s going to happen. And a beauty brighter than Jake or Brielle has ever seen is calling them to join the battle in a realm where all human choices start.

A realm that only angels and demons—and Brielle—can perceive.

Broken Wings (Angel Eyes Trilogy #2)
By Shannon Dittemore
Release Date: February 19, 2013
Paperback/e-book
320 pages

Summary from Goodreads:
Giant angels with metal wings and visible song. A blind demon restored from the pit of darkness. And a girl who has never felt more broken.

Brielle sees the world as it really is: a place where the Celestial exists side by side with human reality. But in the aftermath of a supernatural showdown, her life begins to crumble. Her boyfriend, Jake, is keeping something from her—something important. Her overprotective father has started drinking again. He’s dating a much younger woman who makes Brielle’s skin crawl, and he’s downright hostile toward Jake. Haunting nightmares keep Brielle from sleeping, and flashes of Celestial vision keep her off kilter.

What she doesn’t know is that she’s been targeted. The Prince of Darkness himself has heard of the boy with healing in his hands and of the girl who sees through the Terrestrial Veil. When he plucks the blind demon, Damien, from the fiery chasm and sends him back to Earth with new eyes, the stage is set for a cataclysmic battle of good versus evil.

Then Brielle unearths the truth about her mother’s death and she must question everything she ever thought was true.

Brielle has no choice. She knows evil forces are converging and will soon rain their terror down upon the town of Stratus. She must master the weapons she’s been given. She must fight.

But can she fly with broken wings?

REVIEW:

First off, I love the fact that this book, this series, is so pure. There is no adult language or content, nothing to really be concerned about as far as inappropriate material. AND it's such a fabulous read that keeps your attention and has you debating over whether you really need to get sleep tonight because you just want to keep on reading! I actually have no problem with adult material and vulgar language; however, it is refreshing to read such an intense story that has such a deeply spiritual root.

While Angel Eyes had it's share of dark material, in Broken Wings poor Brielle is struggling to hang on to her new found faith and everything and everyone that means so much to her. It's really a struggle that many of us deal with everyday, although maybe not quite to the extent that Brielle does. The bottom line, faith is hard. And keeping it through the most difficult times in our lives, and trusting that God has everything planned out and that he is listening, is even harder.  While Brielle finds the truth behind some very important secrets, she also struggles with accepting the betrayals of those she loves the most.

This is an excellent read for young adults and adults alike that will keep your attention and have you dying to know what's going to happen next. It's a clean read with a great message and you won't be disappointed.

ANGEL EYES (ANGEL EYES TRILOGY #1)
Angel Eyes (Angel Eyes Trilogy, #1)Once you’ve seen, you can’t unsee. Everything changes when you’ve looked at the world through . . .

A realm that only angels and demons—and Brielle—can perceive.

My Thoughts:
I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I was so pleasantly surprised by this book! I fell in love with the characters and the story quickly, and I was dying to find out what Jake's secret was and how Brielle fit into that secret.

The story moved quickly and the subject was incredibly interesting. Angels have become very popular in the literary world, and from my experience, the majority of these stories do not really incorporate God, prayer, and faith beyond the history of the angels. What I absolutely loved about ANGEL EYES is that Shannon didn't shy away from those details; she embraced them. Jake and the angels continually talk about God and their personal relationships with him. I value this not only because it is rare in today's literature, but because it adds so much to the story. It is relevant and important, and Brielle's struggle with her role, her faith, and her relationship with God and religion are integral parts to her character and her story, without being preachy.

The relationship between Brielle and Jake was also very interesting to me. Jake's secrets are revealed with perfect timing and Brielle's reactions were completely believable. I felt very connected to both Jake and Brielle. Brielle's loss was heart wrenching, and her reasons for doubting her faith are strong and so common. She felt like a real person, not a character on a page.

I look forward to more secrets being revealed, more answers to questions revealed in ANGEL EYES, and the future of Brielle and Jake's relationship. I cannot wait for book two, and I strongly recommend ANGEL EYES!
