**CLEAN READ**
Summary from Goodreads:
In a future United States under the power of a charismatic leader, everyone gets the Mark at age thirteen. The Mark allows citizen to shop, go to school, and even get medical care--without it, you are on your own. Few refuse to get the Mark. Those who do . . . disappear.

Logan Langly went in to get his Mark, but he backed out at the last minute. Ever since, he's been on the run from government agents and on a quest to find his sister Lily, who disappeared when she went to get her Mark five years earlier. His journey leads him to befriend the Dust, a vast network of Markless individuals who dissent against the iron-grip rule of the government. Along the way to the capital to find Lily, the Dust receive some startling information from the Markless community, opening their eyes to the message of Christianity and warning that humanity is now entering the End of Days.

In "Storm," Logan and his friends are the leaders of the Markless revolution. But while some Markless are fighting Chancellor Cylis' army, the Dust is busy trying to find a cure for a horrible epidemic sweeping through the Marked. And it's difficult for them to know who to trust, especially when they aren't sure if Logan's sister Lily, one of the commanders in Cylis' army, is on their side or not. And all across the nation--and the world--the weather is become less stable, and a storm is brewing that bigger than any of them could have ever imagined....

Review:
I have loved this series from the very beginning, and STORM just strengthened my love for it. The 3rd installment in the Swipe series gives us even more POVs, and opens up even more questions. However, we also start to get some answers, and some more hints as to what is really going on. The Christian elements of the series are starting to become a little more prevalent and revealing while continuing to not be overwhelming or preachy. This is not a Bible story, but it is an excellent way to introduce Biblical elements to reluctant or uninformed readers.

While this series is geared toward middle grade readers, it will also appeal to readers of all ages. It will be easy to relate to from nearly any perspective, and adult especially can relate to the political aspect that holds a complex plot with plenty of intrigue, betrayal, and danger. In STORM, these elements are even stronger, and to have these heavy topics tackled by kids in their early to late teens, helps these adult topics to be more understandable for younger readers while keeping their interest.

There's an even more interesting aspect that comes into play in STORM that serves as quite the twist in my opinion. I don't want to spoil anything, so I won't go in to details, but I am very interested to see how this will play out in the future. And exactly what role the new character associated with the twist will play.

If you are looking for a clean read that will appeal to reluctant readers of all ages the Swipe series is perfect. With a young male protagonist, this is also a great read for younger boys. And if you are an adult like me, this is a fresh approach to political and Biblical themes that will suck you in and leaving you craving more.

BLOG TOUR + GIVEAWAY: SNEAK by Evan Angler

Sneak: Swipe #2 By Evan Angler
Release Date: 09/04/12
288 pages

Book Description from Goodreads:
In a future United States under the power of a charismatic leader, everyone gets the Mark at age thirteen. The Mark lets citizen shop, go to school, and even get medical care-but without it, you are on your own. Few refuse to get the Mark. Those who do . . . disappear.
Logan Langly went in to get his Mark, but he backed out at the last minute. Now he’s on the run from government agents who will stop at nothing to capture him. But Logan is on a mission to find and save his sister, Lily, who disappeared five years ago on her thirteenth birthday, the day she was supposed to receive her Mark.
Logan and his friends, a group of dissenters called the Dust, discover a vast network of the Unmarked, who help them travel safely to the capital city where Lily is imprisoned. Along the way, the Dust receives some startling information from the Markless community, opening their eyes to the message of Christianity and warning that humanity is now entering the End of Days.
When the Dust finally arrives in the capital, it seems that all their careful planning is useless against a government that will do anything to bend its citizens to its will. Can the gentle words Logan has found in a tattered, banned Bible really stand against the most powerful military the world has ever known? Can Logan even sacrifice his own freedom, choosing to act through faith alone?

Review:
This was a great sequel to SWIPE! This is definitely a series for reluctant young readers and book lovers alike. There are very few Middle Grade books that I really enjoy, but this series deals with big issues, including politics.
In SNEAK, book 2, Logan and the Dust face some serious obstacles to finding his sister Lily. They have to find where she's being held but first they have to get to Beacon, which is thought to be impossible without having the Mark. Unless of course they can navigate the River, an Underground Railroad type network that assists the Unmarked. The group suffers from all kinds challenges along the way only to find even more challenges upon reaching Beacon.
What I love the most about book 2 is that the suppression of religion in recognized. The topic is present in a preachy or offensive way, but I have a feeling it is going to be a very important aspect of the storyline. The religious theme was already threaded into the story if you knew what you were looking for, so readers of this series should be shocked that Logan finds a Bible or that it will play a significant role in future installments. I think it's a great theme that will reach out to readers of all ages.
I am most excited to learn more about Lily and Peck. These two characters fascinate me! I think their story, both together and individually, are going to really blossom in the next book. I cannot wait to dig a little deeper into both characters.
Overall, I absolutly recommend this book. Especially if you have a youger boy who is reluctant to read. It is a great extension of the first book, has plenty of new elements to keep the reader engaged, and promises a lot more to come!

 Book Description from Goodreads:
"Apocalyptic dystopian fiction at its best. Angler's sharp wit and dexterity with political themes are matched only by the thrilling suspense on every page." -Lis Wiehl, "New York Times" bestselling author and FOX News correspondent

Everyone gets the Mark. It gives all the benefits of citizenship. Yet if getting the Mark is such a good thing, then why does it feel so wrong?

Set in a future North America that is struggling to recover after famine and global war, "Swipe" follows the lives of three kids caught in the middle of a conflict they didn't even know existed. United under a charismatic leader, every citizen of the American Union is required to get the Mark on their 13th birthday in order to gain the benefits of citizenship.

The Mark is a tattoo that must be swiped by special scanners for everything from employment to transportation to shopping. It's almost Logan Langly's 13th birthday and he knows he should be excited about getting the Mark, but he hasn't been able to shake the feeling he's being watched. Not since his sister went to get her Mark five years ago . . . and never came back.
When Logan and his friends discover the truth behind the Mark, will they ever be able to go back to being normal teenagers? Find out in the first book of this exciting series that is "Left Behind" meets "Matched" for middle-grade readers.

BLOG TOUR + Giveaway: SWIPE by Evan Angler

Welcome to the SWIPE blog tour, hosted by YA BOUND and Thomas Nelson Fiction!

Author: Evan Angler
Paperback, 275 pages
Publication Date: May 8th 2012
Publisher: Thomas Nelson Fiction

Logan Langley is just months away from his thirteenth birthday and the biggest day of his life- the day he will finally be Marked. The Mark lets people get jobs, vote, and even go out to eat or buy concert tickets.

Becoming Marked means becoming free. Or so he is told. Five years ago when Logan's sister went to get her Mark she never came back. Now Logan can't shake the feeling he's being watched...

And then he finds the wire.

My thoughts:
A Middle Grade novel that will appeal to kids and adults alike!

I'm not usually a huge fan of Middle Grade novels. I don't have anything against them, I just don't have kids and I tend to prefer a little heavier subject matter. But SWIPE is an amazing MG novel. As an adult reading it, I didn't feel like I was reading about children. In fact, I often had to remind myself that these were 12 and 13 year old kids. The topics in this story are complex enough to appeal to adults and keep the story interesting while still being simple enough for the MG reading level to understand and relate to. It hinges on the basic concept of freedom. What is freedom and in a world where people have to believe one specific way in order to have their basic needs met, can that really be called freedom? There is mystery, action, danger and betrayal all over the place in this book. And the politics involved were intriguing. There is definitely a political aspect to this book, but it's a valid examination that adults will enjoy and kids will question. Which in my opinion is a good thing. It creates a need for answers and examination.

This book captured my attention completely. I found myself thinking about Logan and the Dust and what was really going on under the Dome Umbrella while I was working, eating, sleeping. It captured my attention, and I couldn't escape the story. Much like Logan can't escape those after him. I am very much looking forward to the sequel, SNEAK, due out next Fall. I would recommend this book for reluctant readers as well as fans of dystopian MG and YA. Adults, don't count this one out. It's marvelous!
