Ultravox 1984-09-10 Teatro Tenda Lampugnano Milan, Italy

LDB Special Series #331 (RLR collection)

Out of my 7,000+ shows and radio broadcasts, I have many concerts that were special for some reasons: the setlist, the
musicians, the venue or unexpected events. These are the ones I'd like to propose you. Most of these come from my
cassettes collection, so they will be released at a slower pace than my Master Series! But you won't be disappointed!
I will try to gather the most unusual things I have in my collection and, as always, your feedback and comments will be my
reward for all the work involved in this project.

DO NOT share this music on mp3, just convert it for your own use. Sharing mp3's is the right way to make me stop sharing
music here.

I think I have something really special to share with all Dimers, but first a bit of background. RLR has been a very active
trader back in the early 80´s with very wide musical tastes: he could go from Kiss to Joni Mitchell; from Genesis to Deep
Purple, Queen, Simple Minds, The Who, Springsteen and many more. In the past I could access his enormous collection to get
many U2 tapes some of which I have been sharing with you folks.

RLR had all sorts of tapes in his collection, traded not long after the show happened so most of them are low generation, in
particular tons of shows recorded in Italy which to me are some of the most interesting. Some of them, I had never seen
circulating in the trading circuit. Unfortunately he did not care about generation so this info, except for the shows he
has as masters, is not available.

RLR has kindly given me access once again to his collection. It was like a "kid in a toy shop" situation: it was hard to
select tapes and at the end I came home with some 250 tapes to listen and eventually to transfer in the digital domain. Some
of them will be shared here, possibly the most interesting ones.

Midge Ure – Lead vocals, guitars, synthesisers
Chris Cross – Bass, synthesisers
Billy Currie – Synthesisers, piano
Warren Cann – Drums

Ultravox is another underrated band from the 70´s that really set the scene of the underground music. Unfortunately, as many
bands from the same environment (Sisters of Mercy, The Cure, Siouxsie...) they kept going in the 2000´s which for me it is
a kind of nonsense because new wave really had a sense in the time it was born. Nowadays they seem to me a bit out of place
that they perform in these days but after all a musician plays music to make a living...

But back then they were incredible, both with the John Foxx or Midge Ure line-up.
Possibly a first generation copy from RLR collection, it sounds excellent.

Total Time 81:07
This will fit on one CD if you're using Nero to burn and can override the default of 80 minute maximum.

Outstanding quality master tapes loaned to me by RH and not shared here before.
Even though Midge Ure is singing and not John Foxx the band sounds fantastic. Includes live versions of entire Vienna LP, B-Side to Passing Strangers single (Face To Face), two tracks from John Foxx era Systems Of Romance (Quiet Men, Slow Motion) and one track from Ha!-Ha!-Ha! (Hiroshima Mon Amour). Total surprise is encore cover of King's Lead Hat by Brian Eno.
Enjoy!

Fairly rare, complete show.
The recording suffers a bit for the conditions of capture,
unsuitable and overcrowded place and a very involved audience

certain sound frequencies.

Ultravox was not on my radar when they were at their height, I of course new the hit "Vienna" which was all over MTV and though I thought the vocal performance was compelling, the song itself didn't really move the needle for me. I lumped them in with the synth movement of the 1980's and really didn't give them much of a chance.

I fell into this show and working through it I may have been a bit hasty to write them off, simply put, this is a damn good show from a tight band playing extremely catchy hook laden songs.

This is a solid capture, maybe midway back from the stage. It is extremely stable throughout with little to no audience noise. An excellent document of their 1993 return and tour.
