Cthulhu Fhtagn! Centipede Edition.

Copper Centipede continues his prolific run of variant figurines with his newest- the eight eyed Cthulhu idol.  Based on his output over the last few years I think he's produced more Cthulhu sculpts than any other artist.

The copper finish on this piece has a great sheen thanks to the use of metal powder.

Cthulhu Fhtagn! Centipede Edition.

"Copper Centipede" brings us this fun little wooden Cthulhu idol. It has a wonderful primitive feel that you just couldn't get with an idol sculpted from epoxy or polymer clay.

Cthulhu Fhtagn! Centipede Edition.

It's rare that I feature multiple Cthulhu idols from a single artist.*    It's even more notable when it happens just over a week since I posted his last one.

I absolutely love this carved Cthulhu idol from Copper Centipede. At first I couldn't quite put my finger on why I found it so interesting, but then it hit me. It looks like a woodcut illustration turned into a three dimensional figure. It's a really interesting effect.

*Off the top of my head only two other artists have had their idols featured twice- Jason McKittrick and Brandon Zimmerman.

Cthulhu Fhtagn! Centipede Edition.

The prolific Copper Centipede returns with a new Cthulhu idol. The worn stone finish is one of the more unusual ones I've seen.  It captures the look of the voids you see in pyrites and meteorites.

Cthulhu Fhtagn! Centipede Edition.

Copper Centipede brings us this  wooden Cthulhu idol. It has a wonderfully primitive and mysterious feel, helped by the fact that it doesn't have any distinctive cultural design elements.

Cthulhu Fhtagn! Centipede Edition.

Copper Centipede returns with another excellent Cthulhu idol.  It's cast in a semi-transparent resin to mimic the look of smoky quartz.

Cthulhu Fhtagn! Centipede Edition.

Copper Centipede brings us another wooden Cthulhu idol. I love how he's taken a basic theme and gone through multiple iterations of the design. It would be interesting to see a museum-style display using a group of his idols. Those evolutionary variations are the kind of thing anthropologists and historians get all gooey about.

Graven Image

Copper Centipede brings us this interesting carved soapstone tablet.  I really like the contrast between the heavy texturing of the tentacles and the smooth faces of the slab.  It has that enigmatic, abstract feel of a strange Mythos artifact.
