Ecological means of Transport
Hi !
Here is a beautiful se-tenant pair to be issued this month featuring environment friendly Transport. In fact we need such type of Transport all over the world especially in our country to make a clean and healthy environment. The stamps are in bright color giving a magnificent look to the stamps. These stamps are best suitable for topical collectors of Environment and Transport themes.
I would like to have these beautiful stamps for my collection on environment and would definitely like to exchange with recent nice stamps from India.
This is all for Today….More in Next Post….Have a Nice Time !!
Monaco's government has developed mobility and quality travel solutions that respect the environment. The shuttle boat powered by solar electricity, for example, is far more than a simple gimmick for the tourists: it is integrated into the transport network operated by Monaco's bus company (Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco).
This is one concrete example of an ecological means of transport that reflects government policy. Monaco has been lending out electrically assisted bicycles since 2007. Today, there are eight stations dotted around the Principality.
World Energy Forum 22 –24 October 2012, Dubai

Its Goal & Objective:
Dubai was selected to host this event after fierce competition from other international venues and cities. The World Energy Forum 2012 will take place for the first time outside of the United Nations Headquarters. The World Energy Forum chose Dubai as a venue to host this event because of Dubai's geographic and strategic location; its status as a global hub of finance, business, trade, energy, and tourism; and because of the political stability of the United Arab Emirates.

2012 INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FOR ALL
The United Nation has designated 2012 as the ‘International Year of Sustainable Energy for All’ in order to increase awareness of the importance of addressing energy issues including the energy services for all, access to affordable energy, energy efficiency and the sustainability of energy sources and use; and for promotion of the internationally agreed development through sustainable and peaceful way. The year celebration combines these challenges with the goal of low pollution trying to meet the needs of the present without compromising those of future generations.
Sustainable energy is defined as "the energy produced and used in ways that support long-term human development in a social, economic and ecological scale." Therefore, sustainable energy for all is linked to a sustainable future for development and poverty alleviation.
The future of our nation depends upon the development of all. Students also have the important share and role in nation’s future. They are supposed to be the pillars of the nation. Thus their energy needs necessarily are important.
Postage stamps are issued by different countries like Greifenberg, San Marino, Canada and Spain as part of this YEAR celebration to create and improve awareness about energy and its conservation. They give message with focus on use of endless natural sources such as wind and solar etc. The term "for all" is represented by the ability to produce energy in self-sufficient environment such as the lighted cabin using these natural resources.
I as a student appeal Department of Post and Government of India to issue a postage stamp to participate the international year celebration on Sustainable Energy for All…

Earth Day is a day early each year on which events are held worldwide to increase awareness and appreciation of the Earth's natural environment . Earth Day is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and is celebrated in more than 175 countries every year. In 2009, the United Nations designated April 22 International Mother Earth Day. Earth Day is planned for April 22 in all years at least through 2015.
The name and concept of Earth Day was allegedly pioneered by John McConnell in 1969 at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco. Earth Day was first observed on March 21, 1970, the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere. This day of nature's equipoise was later sanctioned in a Proclamation signed by Secretary General U Thant at the United Nations where it is observed each year.
About the same time a separate Earth Day was founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in first held on April 22, 1970. While this April 22 Earth Day was focused on the United States, an organization launched by Denis Hayes, who was the original national coordinator in 1970, took it international in 1990 and organized events in 141 nations. Numerous communities celebrate Earth Week, an entire week of activities focused on environmental issues.
Today, on April 22, more than one billion people around the globe will participate in Earth Day 2012 and help Mobilize the Earth™. People of all nationalities and backgrounds will voice their appreciation for the planet and demand its protection. Together we will stand united for a sustainable future and call upon individuals, organizations, and governments to do their part.

Green energy stamps by Iceland
Iceland has a unique position when it comes to energy. Icelanders use more energy per capita than any other country. The proportion of renewable energy sources is also unusually high.
In 2008 approximately 80% of the total national energy consumption came from domestic and renewable energy sources. Geothermal heat has been used for heating by 90% of households in the country. Rivers are a great source of energy and Iceland has around 37 hydroelectric power plants and approximately 200 smaller power plants. Landsvirkjun was established for the purpose of constructing power plants providing electricity to heavy industries. Aluminium and related exports account for over 40% of the country's total exports.
Powerful geothermal areas in the South are used both for heating and for vegetable cultivation. These areas account for half of harnessed hydro-energy in the country and about 70% of harnessed geothermal power. With the use of electricity in horticulture farmers have been able to meet domestic demand for tomatoes and cucumbers. Major advances have taken place in horticulture in recent years which means that in ten years tomato-production has increased by 200% and the production of cucumbers doubled.

Chukha Hydel Project
Indian President Shri. R. Venkatraman inaugurated this project in October 1988
Cementing A Friendship
The inauguration of Chukha was notable in other respects as well. Its sheer size and logistical complexity dwarfed all other public works projects in Bhutan combined.
It was also a milestone in the regional co-operation, with an amicable deal worked out to share the renewable hydropower resource for the benefit of both countries. At the inauguration, President Venkataraman said the Project symbolized the firm friendship between India and Bhutan. With Chukha, the Bhutanese economy took a leap forward.
The 336MW Chukha hydel project, which harnesses the waters of the Wong Chhu or Raidak River, was historically one of the largest single investments undertaken in Bhutan, and it represented a major step toward exploiting the country's huge hydroelectric potential. It was built by India on a turnkey basis, with India providing 60% of the capital in a grant and 40% in a loan at highly concessional terms and conditions. In the arrangement, India receives in turn all the electricity generated from the project in excess of Bhutan’s demand at much cheaper prices than India’s generation cost from alternative sources. Located between Thimphu and the Indian border, a 40 metres (130 ft) diversion dam was built at Chimakoti village, 1.6 kilometres (0.99 mi) upstream of the confluence of the Ti Chhu and Wong Chhu rivers. From the dam water was diverted through 6.5 kilometres (4.0 mi) long tunnels to a fall of more than 300 metres (980 ft) to Chukha power house for generation of electricity. Construction started in 1974 and completed in 1986-88.
The construction of Bhutan’s first mega power project, the 336 MW Chhukha hydro-electric project on Wangchu river began in the 70s. The Nu. 2,460 million turnkey power plant was funded by the Government of India which provided a 60 percent grants and 40 percent loan at 5 percent per annum repayable in 15 years in equated annual installments. The first repayment was to be made 3 years after each withdrawal of the loan.
The project was successfully commissioned in 1986 but the project was handed over to Bhutanese management only in June 1991. The beneficiaries of the hydro plant outside Bhutan are West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Sikkim and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) of India. A large portion of the power generated is exported to India. Till Tala hydropower project was commissioned Chhukha was the biggest contributor to Bhutan’s exchequer.
