Special stamp on Germans’ victory in 2014 FIFA World Cup

image

Germany's football World Cup in 2014 - an impressive success, which is also honored with a special stamp. Germany was so confident it would win the World Cup that it pre-printed a run of five million stamps commemorating its soccer victory before the final game even took place.

image

Just hours after Germany’s victory in Rio de Janeiro, the German Finance Ministry presented a new stamp honoring the new World Cup champions on Monday.

German Finance Ministry spokeswoman Marianne Kothe said of the decision to print the stamps in advance: “We always firmly believed in a success of the German team.”

The 60-cent stamps will go on sale nationwide on Thursday. Commemorative stamps for sporting events have a long tradition in Germany, with recent stamps marking the Olympic Games in London in 2012 and the Women’s World Cup in Germany in 2011.

In Brazil, German players celebrated their World Cup victory late into the night, ahead of their flight back to Berlin for a planned victory lap with the trophy and thousands of fans in Berlin on Tuesday morning.

200th anniversary of Danish School

image

A new stamp from Danish Post marks the Danish school’s 200th anniversary with familiar motifs from the school.

“2014 is an important year for the Danish school system. For 200 years, Danish children had the right and obligation to receive education. There is good reason to celebrate, and it’s a fine stamp symbol. The stamp indicates also how to communicate with each other in writing. It is a key part of our school and our community,” said Education Minister Christine Antorini. The stamps have a value of 6.5 dollars and were published on 11th of June.

A commemorative stamp is an old tradition that elegantly ties up an anniversary that not only embraces the past, present and future. “In school we learn not just reading and arithmetic, we also learn to form communities – large and small. The stamps are helping to tell the history of Danish and thus something of what we have in common. The new school stamp is ideal if you want to send a greeting to someone who is preparing for exams, or who might need to start school after the summer, “says Morten O. Nielsen, Communications Manager at Post Denmark

It was in England that the football was born but in Brazil where it lives in its richest and most natural form. Brazil is the host country of the 20th FIFA World Cup, for the second time in history, once again after 64 years. The Football World Cup 1950 in Brazil was remembered after thrilling and dramatic ending with tragic consequences. In the last game of the tournament Uruguay won against the absolute favourite 2: 1 (0: 1) in front of 200,000 spectators!

image

The defeat created despair for the whole nation – even about thirty self-murders were committed! Since that time the Brazilians are the only ones who have won five titles (1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002) – and once again all roads take us to Maracana, that cult place of this populous country and the world’s football.

New stamps on FIFA World Cup 2014

image

With the occasion of the 20th edition of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Romfilatelia introduces into circulation the postage stamps issue dedicated to this sports competition, being held from from June 12th to July 13th, 2014, in Brazil, and hosting 32 national teams from all the continents. The event represents an occasion of joy not only for football fans, but also for philatelists.

Since the beginning of this international football competition, two trophies having different shapes and names crowned the victory: the Jules Rimet Trophy, at the world cups between 1930 and 1973, and the FIFA World Cup Trophy, at the world cups since 1974 to the present day.

The “Jules Rimet Trophy” originally known as “Victory” (Goddess of victory), was designed by the French sculptor Abel la Fleur. In 1970, Brazil won outright this trophy, made of solid gold, and fixed on a green malachite base. But in 1983, the “Victory” trophy was stolen.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup is the most important football competition, gathering with the occasion of these intensely disputed matches the world’s national football teams, qualified for this final tournament. The tournament takes place according to the rules governing the winning of a final trophy, the Cup of the game. The next editions, after the tournament in Brazil, will take place in the Russian Federation in 2018 and Qatar in 2022.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup postage stamps issue consists of four postage stamps with the same face value of lei 2.40. The stamps present the dynamic phases of a football game, depicting four moments of a match and combining the link between the messages of the images and the beauty of this team sport.

FIFA World Cup 2014 stamps from Malta

image

Date of Issue : 12 June 2014

Here are new stamps from Malta Post in a souvenir sheet featuring FIFA World Cup 2014. The FIFA World Cup 2014 is being held in  in Brazil between 12 June and 13 July 2014. This is the championship’s 20th edition having started in Uruguay in 1930. Brazil is hosting the event for the second time and 32 nations are competing for the grand title. A total of 64 matches are to be played in 12 cities across Brazil and this is the first time that goal-line technology will be used in the World Cup Finals. The official anthem for the 2014 World Cup Finals is “We Are One” and was sung by Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte at the inauguration ceremony.

image

The official emblem is entitled “Inspiration” and the design is based on the idea of three victorious hands together raising the World Cup trophy. Its colours evoke the country’s national flag and the design reflects Brazil’s desire to warmly welcome the world to this grand event.

image

The mascot for Brazil 2014 – the animated armadillo Fuleco – is set to make Fifa millions. But the real animal – the Brazilian three-banded armadillo – is perilously close to extinction.

The event’s official mascot and emblem has been featured  respectively on the 0.59 and 1.55 stamp. The World Cup has been held every four years since the inaugural tournament in 1930, with the exception of 1942 and 1946 due to the Second World War. Eight different countries have won the 19 World Cup events with Brazil topping the list – winning five times. The other World Cup winners were Italy with four titles, West Germany with three titles and Argentina and Uruguay with two titles each. England, France and Spain won the title once.

In 2012, Fifa unveiled its mascot for Brazil 2014, a colourful armadillo called Fuleco. Its real-world inspiration is the Brazilian three-banded armadillo Tolypeutes tricinctus, a species that has evolved the defensive trick of rolling up into a near-perfect, football-like sphere.
