CRAZY SEASONS MYSTERY QUILT - REETS WOOLY WINTER BLOCK

It is beyond 90 degrees so i had to bring back this neighborhood photo to get in the mood for . .

CRAZY SEASONS MYSTERY QUILT BLOCK #11 - WOOLY WINTER
FREE PATTERN DOWNLOAD - 16 inch Crazy Quilt Block
This is the 11th Block that is part of Farmhouse Threads Crazy Seasons Sew Along.
I was so happy to be a part of this wonderful project.  Rhonda from Farmhouse Threads did an incredible job organizing this group of 12 designers.
I learned a lot.  Had never done a crazy quilt.  I dug out my old embroidery book also, and learned several new fun stitches.
On our website you will find
  1. Free Pattern Download
  2. A Kit available for purchase - All Flannels and Hand Dyed Wools shown.
  3. A Printed Pattern available for purchase  - for those who do not want to print the 12 page free download.
A NOTE for those of you who choose to purchase a Kit:  Most of the wool pieces are very small .. there is no extra.  For your convenience we have folded each Flannel Background section around the wool pieces for that section.  This was a huge effort but we feel good knowing that there will be no confusion knowing what goes where.  A few of the flannel pieces are brushed flannel meaning they are fuzzy on only one side . . the other side is smooth homespun.  Be sure to note this when cutting out your sections.
I hope you enjoy this pattern . . and the other 11 free patterns.  And of course you do not have to make the entire 12 block quilt . . this would be a great 16 inch pillow or wall hanging.
All three of the above items are found on the home page of our website.  CLICK HERE to head on over to Reets Site for your free pattern and more.

If you have not been following the Sew Along,  just go to our previous posts to see all of the preceding blocks.  Or Click Here to go to the Crazy Seasons Sew Along FaceBook Group page.
And Click Here to see the schedule of designers and links to their free pattern.  They are only free until August so don't wait!
Happy Stitching!

HAND DYED OSNABURGS & WOVEN COTTONS

Loving the new muted shades of hand dyed osnaburg.  They were just what was needed to partner with all of the yarn dyed woven cottons used in so many of our projects and patterns.
The new quilt is off to the quilters and will be waiting for you on the website soon!
Happy Stitching!

Soon "My Heart & My Garden" (are very old friends) Quilt will be on the website.
If you love the yarn dyeds you are in luck.   I have just added a new line to the website.   Look for "Fabrics" in the Menu.
Cheers!

YARN-DYED WOVEN COTTONS

A fabric company sent some of their newest yarn-dyed woven cottons to me before Quilt Market.
I stitched up a 3 block table runner in time to ship off to them for their booth.

I love these wovens and they mix well with all of your woolens . . great backgrounds too.
These six taupes and browns have just been added to our website Accessories/Fabrics Page.
You can order them by the half yard.

I couldn't resist adding some whimsical placemats to the table runner . .
pattern almost ready.
And of course Woolbert will announce a drawing here for the free one we'll be giving away.  I hope you win . . really!

Below is a scan of the basket block I designed for the runner . . just a bit "off" from the traditional.  After the scan, there was some hand stitching added and then some fabulous quilting by my friend
Angie of All Washed Up Quilts.
So what's in your basket today?

JULIE STITCHED IT

Julie from Oregon is enjoying our Wool Sampler Quilt BOM.  She sent us a picture of the finished blocks from Rows 2 and 3.  They are not arranged according to the pattern yet so don't panic if it does not look like yours.  Awesome stitching.  Julie mentioned being a model maker for Pioneer Quilts.  Aren't they the lucky ones!
She can't wait for next month . . . now that's what I love to hear.
Thank you Julie.
Wool Sampler BOM
Oh . . Woolbert was digging through the pattern room and I'm certain I saw him in the
Holiday Section.   I think he is about to give away another pattern so stay tuned.
Make it a good one Woolbert!

BABY QUILTS ALL DONE AND WAITING

Well I told the twin grandbabies to take their time in there with Momma all around . . so to speak.  I explained that I needed just a bit more time to finish their quilts.  They are such patient little girls.  The quilts are now finished.   So.  Our arms are open!  I promised them i would not make identical quilts.  What fun is that anyway.  For one I used the Cut-and-Turn block that I showed you in a post last Nov. 19th.   It was a demo at our quilt guild meeting.  The other was an adorable fabric that I found at my friend Sandi's quilt shop in Ashland Oregon. . . Fabric of Vision.  Then I rushed them to All Washed Up Quilts to be quilted.  I left very little instruction since they are the quilters and I am not.  They hit it!  I love the whimsical magic they used to transform these quilts.
Anyway.  here are some pics.  And I'm sure that when the grandbabes see these they'll come a flying out - to get First Pick!

Just loved this little print.
Bit of a "cheater" pattern.
The picture of the quilt back seems to have gotten lost somewhere.  I just wrapped the backing around to the front to create a simple binding.
That was easy!
Both quilts are bigger than the normal crib size.

I like the back too don't you?!  Momma likes modern fabric
so i sacrificed my last piece of an old favorite from Amy Butler.
Looks much better here than crammed in that fabric cabinet!
Used the Cut-and-Turn Blocks in two
colors and then an adorable little girl
solid block for the alternate.

For the simple Cut-and-Turn Block instructions just go to my old post dated November 19, 2011.   Or click on the link at the beginning of this post.    The previous post provides a much better contrast of colors and also shows how to execute the block.

GUILD DEMOS - A FRUITFUL AFFAIR

Gone so much I miss most of our local guild meetings but my friend Sue and I were very happy we were able to attend this one.   An evening of demos.  The quilter-wanna-be, that's me, learned a very useful block that I will incorporate into the baby quilts for the expected twin grandchildren.  First ones!  Yippee.  Youngest son the first to have children...you don't get to choose the order you just make the quilt(s).  Here is the informative evening in pics.  Click for big.
Robin does her magic
with four 5" squares

So much prettier than my photo

  1.  Begin with four 5" squares seamed together.  Cut 1 1/4" away from center seam as shown.      Best to place on small mat for rotating ease.  Rotate your mat in quarter turns making the same cut each time.
  2. Now, leaving center and outer corners where they are, rotate all four inner rectangles l80 degrees.
  3. Next sew it all back together and there you have it...a Simply wonderful block.

Connie showed us how to use the Guild's AccuQuilt to cut many different shapes.  We were so surprised to see that it even cut notches for matching up pieces.

Kim - Queen of Thangles
LOVED Thangles - great hopes now
for all sizes of the half square triangle.

Gotta get some Thangles - all sizes!

Nancy did beautiful hand painted cards and painted fabric as well . . assisted with her can of shaving cream.  Yes, shaving cream.   Amazing.  My close-ups too blurry..sorry.  Loved that she emphasized the ease with which children become artists using these methods.  Fun too!

Susan was very artful as she demoed some quick gift bows out of various ribbons and laces.  Just in time!

Thank you so much gals!
