Playful Fruit Abstraction 2

Sometimes it is a good thing to change things up when one is starting to get stuck, getting to repeat patterns. When it happens, I might go small, play with a single apple and try to put my spin on it.

Apple Abstraction 31

The weird thing for me is that I can never plan or combine large or small paintings, often it all depend on what is working at the moment. I guess it has to do with (unlike 7-8 years ago) that I paint with instinct, expression, not planning too much.
At the moment large works best, with small interruptions where I get some inspiration from details that I can take to a smaller canvas. Apples was one thing that worked very well on a few of my "Flower Exploration" paintings, and this one is the result of it.

Playful Fruit Abstraction 1

When I played around with my flower exploration series, I started to do parts of flowers, petals and fruit on the table. The result was a very fresh and playful approach to it. It also show that overthinking can be a bad thing and I should trust my instinct.

Apple Abstraction 30

After a long break like this, around 4 months, it is hard to get back where I were. I think it is because I am a different painter today, going with instinct, intuition and expression. I have to find the moment where I find myself back om my journey.

Well, baby steps....

This is a small expressive apple abstraction that I like a lot. It is clean, expressive and have my personal touch to it.

Apple Abstraction 29

This is a new version of a painting that I loved a lot, but got sold. I wanted to go in without any intentions and make an original, not a copy of the original. In my mind, this one is a winner. I think that I will include this one in my Easter exhibition, if it gets sold, great, if not I am more than happy to keep it myself. I will not put it up for sale, but if interested, contact me.

Apples and pears 11

I try to change subjects, especially when I get stuck or think I need to "clean my pallet", as you say when it comes to food. I wanted this one to be rough and have a lot of contrast.

apple abstraction 28

My style of painting is personal and can be very complex in it's simplicity. Like many things in history, there is an action and a reaction. In my case I like to go from complex over the top to simple and restrained. That is why I like to do a single apple for an example and give it a personal touch.

Apple Abstraction 27

SOLD

Painting small work for me right now and I am taking advantage of it. With this small painting I wanted it to give the impression of a large apple, pushing the negative spaces to the minimum.

Apple Abstraction 25

SOLD

I find it interesting to paint a simple apple as long as I can put enough personality into it. I think I put enough spin to this one for it to be recognizable me.

Apple Abstraction 26

SOLD

When I do my best work, in my opinion, I am relaxed, having fun and am not overthinking what I am doing. This one wasn't planned and I painted it without any expectations. That is a great feeling.

Apples and pears 10

Not For Sale

This is a composition that I have done before, but not as small as this. When it comes to subjects or compositions I have two criteria. I don't want to repeat what other artist do and I want to "ad something new to the conversation". To paint something, I have to believe/feel that I can at-least accomplish on of those. Painting fruit is a common subject and I often get stuck because I don't think it is fun or unique enough. I have done a few that I probably won't post, but this one I like.

Apple Abstraction 24

To get started, I went back to this painting, a painting that I started a while back, but never finished. Sometimes I get to a point with a painting where I have mixed feelings, not knowing what to do with it. This time I just went for it and had some fun with it.

Apple Abstraction 22

I thought take the opportunity this weekend to post a small painting that I made a while back, never got around to post it before, there were always something else that got posted instead.

Apples and pears 4

This was my 3rd version of this composition. They are all similar, but in different sizes. This was the middle size. I wanted to see how much my approach changed with size, if it meant more brush strokes and details, or if I could keep the same simplicity. The two small  paintings has the same feel, but the larger one demanded more details.

Apples and pears 3

It is weekend and everyone is enjoying the summer and the fine weather. Time to post some older paintings that haven't been posted yet. This is a slightly larger version of a painting I posted a while back. Going up in size meant that I could work more freely.

Apples and Pears 9

SOLD

This is a slightly larger version of a painting I did a while back. I liked the old version, but I wanted to see how it would look if I could go bolder with my brush strokes and lines. Size do make a difference, at least I feel more free and can feel the brush strokes while I painting, if you know what I mean.

Apples and pears 8

A saying goes like this. Every action has a reaction, that is very true when it comes to my art. I go in one direction and sooner or later I take it in another, from colorful to more muted ones and so on. After a series of expressive paintings, I took this one to a very calm place, letting the contrast come from the background.
I will do another version of this one, slightly larger and more playful.

Apple Abstraction 21

SOLD

AuctionThis is another one of the small paintings I did earlier, an apple study/abstraction. I let the brush strokes speak.

Apple Abstraction 20

Buy two 6" x 6" paintings and only pay shipping and handling for one.

I have four creative months behind me and now it is time for a break, or at least slowing down. I don't get the results I want, lack inspiration and energy. Trying too much isn't always a good thing, sometimes one just have to take a step back, relax and wait for the creative juices to come back. I will keep posting, I haven't run out of paintings to show.
If anyone got some suggestions/ideas that might suit my style of painting or inspire me, feel free to be my muse.
