Flowers and Butterflies

 Flowers and Butterflies

Sometimes it's good to go back to the basics, and that is what I'm doing today.

A couple of basic cards with a little blending of colors around the card.  Add some dimension with a stencil, and coloring pencils for more added color.
Here's a close up showing coloring with color pencils. I used a couple purples, and then added a little pink for more interest.  Some self sticking gems in the center for more dimension.

A stencil in the background also adds a different texture to the card.

Eeyore halloween

 Eeyore Halloween

Eeyore is one of my favorite animals from Winnie the Pooh. Oh, ok all of them are my favorites!

                                                  stamps/stencils used:  Unity stamp co.

This card is on the dark side in color because I did it on kraft cardstock, then colored with color pencils. This Halloween stamp from Unity stamp co. is such a change for my Halloween stamping style.  I usually go really creepy and weird but I just loved this stamp as soon as I saw it.

The rest of the cards I made were done on left over Duoprinting w/chlorophyll prints, which you can see here in this post with a video.  These were also colored with my prisma color pencils.

Remember if you want to see more about my duoprinting w/chlorophyll prints just type it in search bar.

White Swan Echinacea cone flower

 White Swan Echinacea cone flower

stamps used: Altenew white swan echinacea stamp set

This a beautiful paint-a-flower stamp set, which just means there are no dies for this stamp set.  The white swan echinacea is a cone flower.

basic instructions for tags:

First I die cut a small scallop rectangle out of kraft cardstock.  Colored in the flowers with prisma color pencils.  I do like how color pencils pop on kraft cardstock, and color pencils are my choice of mediums for coloring.  I adhered the kraft card to a die cut banner, that was cut out of black cardstock.

basic instruction for cards:

Again I cut out small scallop rectangle, but with white cardstock this time.  I colored the flowers with Altenew watercolor set.  Now my favorite coloring medium but, I'm trying to expand my coloring mediums.  Layered the colored flower card onto a bright orange card, then onto a 4" x 5 1/4" die cut scallop card, that I adhered a background piece.  The background piece is the shaving cream technique, that you can see in this post from 2016, or more recently in this post.  Oh, yes in both the links you can see an old video I made showing the shaving cream technique in action.  You can also visit my you tube channel to see it, and more.

Mixed Media Morsels #7

 Mixed Media Morsels #7

I went simple with this month's MMM altered playing card... but ... I like it!  I had fun stamping out the robot, which I forgot I had in my stash.  I colored him in with color pencils, then popped him up on flower pattern paper.  Hope you like this as much as I do.

Bald Eagles

 Bald Eagles

Back for another guest blogging for Blue Knight stamp company.  Today I am featuring Bald Eagle and best part of using this stamp set is it reminds me of my father.  One day he asked if I had any eagle stamps because he liked them, and he wanted to learn how to stamp them on his checks.  He said if people could have cute puppies and cats printed on their checks ..... he could have eagles!  So after that every time I saw an eagle stamp I would get it for him.

Beach Birds

 Beach Birds

This month, June, I am happy to be guest blogging on Fridays for Blue Knight rubber stamp company.

stamp used:  Blue Knight Beach Bird stamp

This is a big and beautiful image that almost covers the front of an A2 card.  I stamp Beach Bird with black ink and colored her with color pencils.  Layered the stamped card onto a black layer then onto a light blue card base.

The second card using Beach Bird I stamped it with dark brown ink.  Blended color around the stamped card with two brown distress ink and hickory smoke ink.  This makes for a vintage effect.  The finished stamped card is layered onto a dark brown layer then onto a cream card base card.

Happy HouseMouse to you!

 HouseMouse fun!

stamps used:  HouseMouse (my stamps are wood mounted and discontinued), the sayings are from different companies

Had fun pulling out my old HouseMouse stamps, and yes, they are on wood!  How many of you remember wood mounted stamps?  Back in the day that's all there was until someone decided they just didn't have enough room to store all the wood mounted stamps soooooooooo ... a clever person (don't know who) started removing the rubber from the wood mounts, and used re-positional glue on plastic pieces, and viola!  acrylic blocks were invented for unmounted stamps!  Anyway back to my cards ..... I also got out my Prisma color pencils, and sat to color all the images one day.  Another day I layered onto color layers then to card bases, and I was done.  Fun to go back to basics sometimes.

I hope everyone is enjoying their holidays even in these strange times.  I know some of my friends are doing zoom or facetime with their families, since this year we can't be with them in person.

Thank you for stopping by ... leave a comment to let me know what you like to go back to ... for me it was my old wood mounted stamps and color pencils.  Come back again soon.

wobbly goats

Wobble Goats

You know the saying:  weebles wobble but they don't fall down!  well, here are goat wobbles ... but do they or don't they fall down??????????!?!!?  that is the question.

stamps used:  Stampin' Up
here are what the wobble mechanisms look like:
peel off the backing ... stick to image you want to wobble ... then stick to card.

I choose some backgrounds I already had made to use for these cards.  A couple of the backgrounds are blended backgrounds and the other two are left over pieces from thin frame die cards. I colored the goats with my prisma color pencils.
These are just fun cards to create and actually make wobble!
Thanks for stopping by.  come back again soon.  comments are welcomed.

bunny tags

stamps used:  Unity stamp co.
Here are two simple but I think, fun tags.  I stamped the cuddlebug bunny onto kraft/brown cardstock that I cut into a tag.  Added some highlight around the bunny with color pencil then added snowflake pattern paper to the top and re-punched the hole.  Taped on some washi tape and, yes I added extra adhesive behind it because I didn't want it to come off.  One of the tags I just stamped the saying right onto the tag and the other I stamped onto a separate piece of cardstock then used a punch to give it the appearance of being a tag.  Tied on some bakers' twine to finished off the tags.
Hope you enjoy these fun two tags.  thank you for stopping by and please come back soon.

Poppy girl

stamp used:  Unity stamp co.
For this card I did a twist on the Triple Time stamping technique ... so this is Double Time stamping because there are only two layers of stamped image.  This is all colored with Prisma color pencils (my favorite coloring medium) ... I like color pencils because I can mix different colors together and layer all the colors for shading.  normally I use my blush pink for base color of skin but this time I went for a more tan look since it is summer where I live.  I even used a dark blue for shading of the skin.  the shirt is a light green with tones of darker greens and blue for shading.  the flowers are a combination of red, pink and cream.  It is going to be hot here for the next few days so keep cool.

***Updated 7/28/17***
Yeah for me!  I received honorable mention and won three Unity Ittiy Bitty stamp sets.

Audition post for Sin City stamps

I'm applying for a spot on Sin City stamps co.  They want to see at least five examples of my work/art past and present so I'm going to show my favorites over the past year with links to original posts.
shaving cream technique uses foam shaving cream, re-inkers, combs for stirring and a lot of imagination.
this is a fun technique with everyday supplies.  you can see more here on this post and here including a video showing and explaining how I created these fun backgrounds.

stamping on kraft cardstock and coloring with Prisma color pencils.  I like to use lots of colors when coloring with my Prisma color pencils to create a feeling in the card.
see examples of my coloring on this post , here, and here.
pop-up card - there are all kinds of pop up cards and I like to try them all.
check out this simple pop up  I did a few years ago.  another ice day pop up card.
using stipple brushes or blending tools make beautiful backgrounds.  stipple brushes and blending tools are "tools" to make all kinds of different backgrounds and manipulate all types of inks.
In the seahorse card I used stipple brushes for the blue watery background.  You can see more on this card here.   check these Halloween cards in this post to see how I blended all the colors in the background and please watch the video.
shaker cards are fun and interactive cards.  you can fill them with just about anything from glitter, sequins, charms and even candy!
see more shakers here
there are so many styles of sliders as in this example, it uses pennies for weight to make the image spin.  there is also what I call the old fashion slider in which you use a ribbon to pull the image across the card.
more sliders here
I hope these examples show my talents in stamping so I may be considered to be on the Sin City stamps design team.  good luck to all that apply.

watching the super moon

Well, like everyone this week our furry little HouseMouse went out to view the super moon.  I have to say it was a beautiful moon.  These two cards are simple but effective.....don't you think?  I used my favorite coloring medium which is ... if you keep up with my blog then you know it's Prisma color pencils.  Used the same colors on both cards but the only difference is the color cardstock...kraft is deep and luscious look...white is more dramatic and bright.  which is your favorite?
This stamp is from a company called Stampa Rosa that is unfortunately out of business but I believe the company Stampendous has picked some of the HouseMouse designs which is great.  I've always liked these little critters.

Peek a boo gate fold

here's a look at a what I believe is called a Peek a
boo gate fold card.  Basically what I did is fold a card into a gate fold then trim off a little for the peek a boo section.  It is fun to open and reveal the hidden image. did some coloring with color pencils.
stamps by Bart's Ink (out of business but still favorite of mine for quirky images)
