The Happy 101 Award Marches On...

The GreatWhiteDope chose moi - and another 9 winners - to continue an 'award'-thing-like post Called the Happy 101 Award, it is all about sharing the things that bring you joy. So, having been given this award - thankyou verymuch - I need to continue the joy and, as I sit in this internet cafe [grrrr] it seemed a great way to get another post up...

So ... 10 things that is ...

SHARE TEN (10) THINGS THAT BRING YOU JOY:

1) Jurassic Park and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie - if only because they bring me back to my childhood and the many, many weekends these were watched.

2) Listening to a song that gives you goosebumps - for example, an 11-minute track by Underworld that pays off nearly 6 minutes into the song... (8 Ball...)

3) Hearing kids in my class discuss art randomly in conversation - whether it be why Van Goghs work is so expensive or how they can see they have improved since they've been in my class.

4) Seeing U2 live - in fact, seeing any band I obsess about live: Radiohead, Coldplay...

5) Watching Michael Jackson perform - simply flawless. How can a human move in such a way??? How can someone have such a voice!

6) The Great White Dope said this, but I agree, with the joy found when finding those online folk who have the same obsessive interest about cinema as I.

7) Laughing so hard you are in tears - namely in one instance when a close friend and I were quoting 'The Office' and simply couldn't stop and, more recently, when David Cross performed for twenty minutes and nearly killed me... "fool me seven times - what am I? idiot of the month?"

8) A certain buzz that happens when I am walking home from work [on a good day...] and I think "Man, I'm an Art teacher, how fantastic is that??". Teachers out there - we are a part of such a great profession! A certain pride is never a bad thing.

9) Getting some positive feedback on the podcast - and realising that not everyone is sick of us ... yet ...

10) Reading some incredible news about a sequel to a film I adored. (Batman 3... Jurassic Park 4... )

Remember, you ten; in accepting this award you must all follow the rules of Sweet 101 in order to place this proudly on your site. Those two special things I did:

1) SHARE TEN (10) THINGS THAT BRING YOU JOY

2) PASS THIS AWARD ALONG TO 10 OTHER DESERVING BLOGGERS

I choose:

1) Kai at The List
2) Travis at The Movie Encyclopedia
3) Nick at Random Ramblings of a Demented Doorknob
4) Scott at He Shot Cyrus (forcing him to write a post on his very-quiet-blog-but-very-busy-podcast...)
5) Richard and Jo at The Beautiful Game?
6) Rachel at Rachels Reel Reviews
7) Mike at You Talkin' To Me?
8) Vancetastic at The Audient
9) Fitz and Ben at Nevermind Pop Culture
10) Mad Hatter at The Dark of the Matinee

Across The Blogosphere...

As part of the FILM BLOGS group, I was asked to put out their Monthly Film Blogs round-up - which, effectively doubles-up for my Across the Blogosphere. They are a few from last week, but their are also loads more than I normally do! Because there is alot of writing...

"Hello Blog Writers and Blog Readers,

This is Simon writing here from 'The Simon and Jo Film Show' (oh, now that you ask, its a podcast that covers film on a weekly basis - much fun can be had! ITs on itunes and my personal blog is www.screeninsight.com - do check it out!) and I've been asked to put together an email of links to check out for all you film bloggers!

The blogging community is a funny one, it seems many blog-readers are actually blog-writers. Obviously, many people will find your special post via Google searches and recommendations from other sites - if IMDB recommend your review perhaps? But, in the first instance blog-readers being blog-writers is a great starting point because, if the blog-writer who reads your blog likes your blog enough, they will write about reading your blog and the beautiful circle of [blogging] life continues.

Fact is, commenting to simply show your appreciation is what everyone seeks - do you like their article? do you agree? is a fact incorrect? (Once I claimed Fellini was an Italian Neo-Realist! Ouch, thank you to Mike Lippert on You Talkin' To Me? blog for correcting a small mistake!). So, put some time aside, go through the links below and click, read and comment - I guarantee, you'll come off better for it and, if you are wise enough to leave a link to your own blog at the bottom, I further guarantee that those writers will have a gander at your blog too...

BLOG ROUND UP

If you dig your Alfred Hitchcock it is imperative that you go to Alred Hitchcock Geeks Blog. He covers many, many incredible aspects of Hitchcocks career - aspects that are not covered on the Special Edition DVD. How Cezanne features in 'The Wrong Man', the politics of 'Foreign Correspondant'... seek it out at: http://www.alfredhitchcockgeek.com/

Flickering Myth is a blog run by many different members - therefore covering a wide range of topics and issues. Recently, I read all my latest information on Comic-Con in San Diego on their site - and they handily provide the links to find out what the trailers and reveals were. Find them at: http://flickeringmyth.blogspot.com/

Rachel at Rachels Reel Reviews is a great blog as, for one, she has a daily change of events - from the 'Saturday Soapbox' through to the 'Thursdays Three' and 'Fridays New Feature Films'. She also has a podcast - Reel Insight - released on a weekly basis. Then, ON TOP of this she does additional bits and bobs. Find her at: www.rachelsreelreviews.com

The Audient rips apart Tarsem Singh's 'The Cell' starring Vince Vaughn , J-Lo and Vincent D'Onofrio. Personally, I love how, back in the day, Vince Vaughan starred in 'The Cell', 'Jurassic Park: The Lost World' and 'Psycho '98'. Whoever told him to go down the comedy route should be paid alot of money. Find this specific post by typing: http://theaudient.blogspot.com/2010/07/new-discoveries.html

The Intermittent Sprocket claims himself that he is "a projectionist and a waster. Which makes every thought that pops into my head important enough to spit up on the internet.". Though I wouldn't knock him down so much, he does have a great understanding of the films and the marketing - recently he wrote about tag lines" Check him out on: http://theintermittentsprocket.blogspot.com/

Julian Stark over at Movies And Other Things writes some great posts but, what is even more interesting, is that throughout the year he is predicting the Oscar Contenders... oh? who is going to be up for Best Picture 2011? No ideas? He has it all planned out: http://julianstark-moviesandotherthings.blogspot.com/

THE BLOG OF THE MONTH

I have only just found this: http://www.unknownscreenwriter.com/

Seems to be not only a blog which covers a range of cienmatic issues, but also a place whereby the informatyion is stored and available. Separate sections focussing solely on 'Structure' and 'Character' provide a wealth of reading material for budding screenwriters.

Again, http://www.unknownscreenwriter.com/

If you are hunting down more blogs to read, have a gander at the LAMB (The Large Association of Movie Blogs) whereby, regularly, they release LAMB Chops or Bloody Chops or Classic Chops - respectively looking at simply great posts, great posts amongst the horror-film bloggers out there and posts about classic cinema, pre-1979.

The LAMB can be found at: http://largeassmovieblogs.blogspot.com/

Do check them out! and comment if you support them!

The Simon and Jo Film Show: 11/07/2010

This week, for our 40th show, we 'rip-apart' the Jurassic Park trilogy. It is Simon's birthday, hence he reviews his all-time favourite film and so, it is time for a celebration!

We then cover some feedback sent in - via simonandjoshow@gmail.com - and the London Box Office, the new releases and more news.

To finish, finally Simon watched My Blueberry Nights and In the Mood for Love and discusses the two films in the third part.

Links

Rachel from Rachel's Reel Reviews e-mailed in to tell us her opinions on our coverage of Mad Max, whilst Shannon the 'Movie Moxie' wished Simon a happy birthday and has her list of favourite films of 2010, which you can check out on her blog, titled 'Looking Back, Looking Forward'... !

Music

All the music is, pretty much, from the soundtrack to Jurassic Park and composed by John Williams - though we did use excerpts from The Lost World soundtrack and My Blueberry Nights soundtrack.

Trailers

Available on YouTube, the trailers we discuss are Chain Letter, Piranha 3-D and Little Fockers

Across the Blogosphere...

In an attempt to become more prolific, I thought now might be a good opportunity to stick up some links to blogs primarily - but other such exciting things on the world wide web that I have stumbled across over the past week for you to enjoy. I can only pray that nothing gets repeated in the podcast but we do often find exceptionally new news for the podcast whereas this is more of a 'round-up' of the other chunk that attracted my attention.

First up, The Kid the Front Row found a fascinating video of Tom Hanks at a Sony conference - yes, he is smug but he is intelligent, witty and knows how to say 'contractual obligations'...

Second, so-o-o-o many people are doing this TV-meme thing, talking about favourite TV shows, shows that need more publicity, etc. Amongst them Rachel at Rachels Reel Reviews, Random Ramblings...Doorknob and The Movie Encyclopedia .... I wish I could do it myself but I fear I have missed the boat.

Thirdly, the LAMMY's are being announced as we speak ... for me, this is a great way to find out about Blogs I haven't heard about for whatever reason and follow them for a bit, dipping my toe in the water of their blog-ness. Award-winning blogs such as Invasion of the B-Movies, She Blogged by Night and Final Girl are some of the new blogs I am now following...
