Return of the Toadstools

Mornin' y'all!  It's a gray morning here and the temperature has dropped 20 degrees since yesterday...and the hubs and the kiddo are planning to go camping this weekend.  Me and Daphne are staying home where the indoor plumbing is : )  I want to get out all the fall and Halloween decorations while they're out in the wilderness.

Anyway, I have a card to share:

It's been a while since I made a Terrific Toadstools card.  I had a go at the Paper Players tic-tac-toe challenge:

I went across the middle with bright colors - free (toadstools!) - enamel dots.  The enamel dots I used are some of the first ones that SU! ever released, they're glitter enamel dots and I bought like five packs of them.  I paired that with the Atlantic Hearts sketch:

It was actually the Toadstool Garden DSP that kicked off this card, I knew I was going for bright colors when I was looking through my DSP stash and that one fit the bill.

This is NOT all for me today though, peeps, I will be sharing another card here in a little bit because I wanted to enter some challenges and I already have my posts planned out for Saturday and Sunday and I'm excited to share those and then we can't skip Scrappy Monday.  Stay tuned!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Terrific Toadstools
Ink:  Melon Mambo, Fresh Freesia, Granny Apple Green
Paper:  Melon Mambo, Thick Basic White, Toadstool Garden DSP Stack
Accessories:  Dimensionals, Glitter Enamel Dots

Tiger Stripes

Mornin' y'all!  How's your Sunday going?  I have a fun card to share today:

I got Along These Lines a while back and this is the first time I've used it.  I had a dear friend who loved tigers so I tend to buy stamps (and cross stitch patterns) with tigers in memory of her.  I used this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

And the Color Throwdown:

I went with Crumb Cake, Magenta Madness, and Pumpkin Pie for the colors, with a healthy shot of Basic Black to ground the bright shades.  I wasn't too sure about combining these two challenges this time but I am loving that tiger.

Anyway, I need to go scramble some eggs.  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Along These Lines, Terrific Toadstools
Ink:  Versamark, Magenta Madness
Paper:  Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie, Magenta Madness, Crumb Cake DSP
Accessories:  Stitched Shapes dies, black EP, white EP, Dimensionals, Black Rhinestones

Summer Toadstools

Mornin' y'all!  I'm up early today, I woke up at 5:00 and decided I wasn't getting back to sleep so here I am.  And I'm pleased to report that after a slow start in my craft room yesterday afternoon, I finally got in the groove and made a couple of things I like.  So here's my card for today:

The colors may be a little off in the photo, but I took the pic early this morning before the sun was up.  I went with the As You See It colors:

I will admit that when I see a color challenge like this that is perfect for a floral card, my contrary little brain wants to do anything BUT flowers.  After some thought, I landed on Terrific Toadstools...it's been a little bit since I used it so that was fun.  I modified this week's CASE-ing Tuesday Sketch:

I have all the same layers, but in different proportions than on the original sketch, and I had to move up the sentiment panel a bit so my toadstool would have room to grow.

That's it for now, it's time for me to start my workout.  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Terrific Toadstools
Ink:  Versamark, Melon Mambo, Peach Pie, Garden Green
Paper:  Peach Pie, Melon Mambo, Garden Green, Thick Basic White, Peach Pie DSP, Toadstool Gardens DSP Stack

The Secret of Red Gate Farm

Time for another Nancy Drew challenge!  In the past few weeks, I went from having never owned or read the original 1930s versions of ND books a month ago to now owning...um, TWENTY-ONE.  Actually I think it's more, I have a few that are shipping right now.  That means I have at most 13 left to track down, woohoo!  Anyway, today's book is #6, The Secret of Red Gate Farm, and I just got my OT version of this one in yesterday's mail (along with four other books but don't tell the hubs, haha!).

The OT version on the left has a dust jacket, but obviously the cover art is the same, which works nicely for me since I only have one card made.

I read the book yesterday afternoon (y'all know I'm a voracious reader) but this time the OT version and the RT version are very similar, so I won't do an entire case file this time.  So here's the RT:

Case file:  Nancy, Bess, and George take a train trip to go shopping and meet Joanne Byrd, who's on her way to the big city to find a job so she can literally save the family farm.  Nancy insists on helping her and driving her to an interview where the man conducting the interview acts weird and Nancy senses there's a mystery in the offing.  To help their new friend, Nancy, Bess, and George go back with her to Red Gate Farm and become boarders there to help keep Joanne's grandma from selling it.  There they learn that there's a weird cult that leases some land with caves on it from Joanne's grandma and naturally Nancy has to go check them out.  The girls help out on the farm and manage to attract a few more boarders while also learning that there's a rash of counterfeit $20 bills in the area.  After spying on the Black Snake Colony members who dance around like weirdos in the moonlight (it's another Scooby-Doo episode!), Nancy decides the natural course of action is to make their own fake robes and join the dance party.  They follow the cult members into the caves and discover that's the base for the counterfeiting operation, and their goose is almost cooked until some MAN comes and rescues the girls (he's the son of one of the other boarders on the farm).  Once they're all safe and the counterfeiters are behind bars, Nancy convinces Joanne and her grammy to make the counterfeiters' cave a local tourist attraction and thus save the family farm.

Notes: Aww, Nancy comes up against her first fake cult but really, she needs some guy to come save her in the end???  For shame, Detective Drew.  I will say that there was more than the usual effort put into giving the other boarders at Red Gate Farm a bit of personality.  It doesn't make much sense to me that the counterfeiters would pretend to be a cult and do the dancing in the moonlight thing that is sure to attract attention their way, you'd think they'd be trying to fly under the radar and not have people looking in their direction...but it's a Scooby Doo episode.  Nancy's dad doesn't have much to do in this case other than occasionally talking to Nancy, giving her a couple of twenties that turn out to be counterfeit, and then getting name-dropped by the girls because he's a Famous Attorney and there's no way Carson Drew's daughter would knowingly be trying to pass off counterfeit bills (as if rich people's kids never behave badly).  George once again is mean to Bess about her weight and her mama should have taught her better manners and it's George's fault I knocked a half a star off my rating.  The cover of this book is more 40s to me than any of the others so far, I think it's the hair.  Victory rolls!  I think The Secret of the Old Clock looks distinctly 60s with the hair and the dress and I am Here For It.  I will agree with my sister Adrienne, I love mid-century modern style when it comes to clothes.  Three and a half stars because I'm mad at George.  If you can't say something nice, George, stick a sock in it.

Consulting detectives:  As I said, the storylines in the two books are quite similar this time, with a few extra scenes and more description in the OT version.  I think the biggest difference is that the girl they're helping in the OT version is Millie Burd, who becomes Joanne Byrd in the RT.  Curiously, the RT version has George get bitten by a snake while out exploring the farm with the other girls, but no lasting damage, and that doesn't happen in the OT at all.  Otherwise not much changed between the versions.  This book, along with numbers 1-4, didn't have a "picture cover" in the OT version, that was only printed on the older versions with a dust jacket.  I now have the dust jacket versions for this one and #4, The Mystery at Lilac Inn, which I haven't read yet so my plan to read all the books in chronological order turned out to have some twists and turns in it : )

So here is my card for The Secret of Red Gate Farm:

There's a scene in the book where Nancy has to go looking for a wayward cow and uses the opportunity to try snooping in the counterfeiters' cave, so I chose a cute cow for my card.  Weeks ago I saw someone else who had done a card with Peekaboo Forest and that greeting from Terrific Toadstools, but I lost my browser tab for where I saw the card and I can't remember who it was so thank you to whoever that was.

I colored my stone wall to look like the one on the book cover and used Rococo Rose to match Nancy's sweater.  Why does the Rococo Rose Stampin' Blend come out more hot pink??

Feel free to join in the fun by making a card and leaving a comment here, I'd love to see your take on this book.  Next up:  The Clue in the Diary!

SUO Challenges Poppin' Up With Spring Colors

Heyyyy stampy friends!  It's time for a new challenge at SUO Challenges!

And we have a springy color palette for you to play with, check it out:

I perused my current stamp sets (a very short list with everything that went on the last chance list) and of *course* I came back to Terrific Toadstools, I am convinced that they would work with any color combination ever  ; )  So here they are all ready for spring:

I wish I had gotten a better picture of this card but for some reason taking pictures of my projects has been a challenge itself lately.  For the toadstool, I inked up the cap with Lemon Lolly and then used a sponge dauber to add Peach Pie to the top.  The stem is stamped off Pecan Pie and the greeting is full strength Pecan Pie, and then I added a horizontal layer with the smaller toadstools and some leaves stamped in Soft Sea Foam on the same color of cardstock.  I made up the card layout as I went along and I ended up being quite pleased with how it turned out, what do you think?

Now it's your turn!  Have a crafty session with our colors and upload your creation at the SUO Challenges blog, and don't forget to keep it SU Only!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Terrific Toadstools
Ink:  Peach Pie, Lemon Lolly, Soft Sea Foam, Pecan Pie
Paper:  Peach Pie, Soft Sea Foam, Thick Basic White, Lemon Lolly & Soft Sea Foam DSP

Lucky Charms

Happy St. Patrick's Day, y'all!  I didn't mail out St. Paddy's Day cards until Saturday but I think it counts as on time as long as they went out before today : ) Here's what I made:

The Inspired By... pic reminded me of the Sunshine & Rainbows DSP Stack so that's what I used.  The rainbow and cloud are fussy cut from sheets of the DSP and I used a third pattern for the Melon Mambo strip.  The greeting from Terrific Toadstools seemed like the perfect thing for this and now this card makes me think of a box of Lucky Charms.  I made four of these in pretty quick succession and I have some extra rainbows and clouds.

Here's the Inspired By... challenge:

Need to get my workout on and then take Daph out for a walk once the wind dies down a bit.  Then I have a couple more loads of laundry to do and bathrooms to clean, quite the glamorous day ahead for me.  Ha!  Cheers, y'all!

Stamps:  Terrific Toadstools
Ink:  Granny Apple Green
Paper:  Granny Apple Green, Thick Basic White, Sunshine & Rainbows DSP Stack

Poppin' Up

Mornin' y'all!  I did not want to get up this morning but Daphne was ready at 5:15.  Need to teach this girl about Saturdays.  I did get back to sleep for a while and then the other kid wanted breakfast : )

Anyway, I've got another Terrific Toadstools card today!

I inked up my Fresh Freesia ink pad after I made the Sea Turtle card so then it took a couple of tries to get the cap on the toadstool to look how I wanted.  It always takes a bit of time for the ink to settle I think.

I'm entering this card at Freshly Made Sketches:

Not gonna lie, I kinda want to make another card without putting anything over the three panels on the sketch, we'll see if that happens today or tomorrow.  I think it would be fun with just DSP panels and a stamped greeting maybe.

Anyway, it's time to get my yoga on.  Cheers, y'all!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Terrific Toadstools
Ink:  Fresh Freesia, Pumpkin Pie, Gray Granite, Granny Apple Green, Melon Mambo
Paper:  Granny Apple Green, Thick Basic White, Toadstool Garden DSP Stack

Existential Toadstool

Mornin' y'all!  Are you ready for another Terrific Toadstools card?

This time I tried fussy cutting the stamped images without leaving a white border and you know what, I think I like the white borders better.  I used the sketch from Just Add Ink:

The SOS Challenge this week is to use three or more patterned papers, and I figured those three squares would be just the way to incorporate three different patterns.  So I grabbed some scraps and cut out squares with the Stylish Shapes dies.  I used the "glad you exist" sentiment from Saying Hey just because I think it's funny and it fit that banner die perfectly.

That's it for me today, y'all.  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Terrific Toadstools, Saying Hey
Ink:  Melon Mambo, Pretty in Pink, Fresh Freesia, Granny Apple Green (it looks extra dark because I just re-inked my ink pad)
Paper:  Fresh Freesia, Thick Basic White, Toadstool Gardens DSP Stack
Accessories:  Stylish Shapes dies, Dimensionals, Glossy Dots

Another Magical Toadstool

Mornin' y'all!  I had a bad headache all day yesterday, but I'm feeling much better today so hooray!  I got some good sleep last night and I think that's what helped.

Anyway, as I said yesterday, I have yet another Terrific Toadstools card and here it is:

I've been having so much fun playing with these stamps : )  I used this week's CASE-ing Tuesday Sketch:

Here's the card in the min catalog:

And I paired that with this week's Creative Colour Challenge:

It's funny, I put the Lemon Lolly Rainbow Dots on the card and they looked so GREEN on the Lemon Lime Twist DSP.  I'm glad they show up more yellow in the picture.  Also, I painted the toadstool cap with Wink of Stella but of course that didn't show up in the picture (it almost never does).  My experience with fungus is extremely limited, though once I saw a mushroom in the forest that had a cap so bright red that it looked fake, but my ignorance means that I am perfectly happy to stamp mushrooms and toadstools in every color ever : ) That also applies to dinosaurs, for that matter.

Anywha, that's it for me today.  Looks like a pretty day outside (though windy) so Ryan and I are going to take Daphne out for her daily perambulation and I'll get a new hairdo while we're at it.  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Terrific Toadstools
Ink:  Gray Granite, Lemon Lolly, Lemon Lime Twist
Paper:  Gray Granite, Thick Basic White, Toadstool Gardens DSP, LLT DSP
Accessories:  Stylish Shapes dies, Rainbow Dots, Dimensionals

Sketchy Duo

Mornin' y'all.  I woke up not feeling too hot again this morning so I'm moving slow.  Might need a nap today, but right now I'm having my morning cuppa while Daphne eviscerates the toy I just bought her at the store this morning.  She's having a good time (and making a mess) and at the rate she's going, the remains of that toy will be in the trash before the hubs or Ryan get home today.

Anyway, I have two cards today.

More Technicolor toadstools because I love them : )  I have another toadstool card coming up soon, it's already made and photographed.  Check out the Atlantic Hearts sketch:

I admit I kinda ignored the doily element on the sketch and just used some DSP.  Next up is the TGIF Challenge:

The Toadstool Gardens DSP Stack is probably my favorite thing from the SAB catalog, and I used the purple sequins from there too.

And now a bonus card with the same sketch:

I have yet to actually stamp the crab or the lobster from this set, I keep die cutting them from the DSP : )  I used more of the sequins on this one.

There's my sketchy duo.  I like the cherry colors on both of them.

Time to take Daphne the Destroyer out for her tour of the neighborhood.  Cheers, y'all.

Magical Mushroom

Mornin' y'all!  Remember last week on that one blizzardy day when I said I might order some tea?  I got that hypothetical tea yesterday and it turned out I was ordering larger packages of each tea than I expected, but hey, bonus tea!  So this morning I had to try the one I was most intrigued by--sweet potato pie tea.  And really, it DOES taste like sweet potato, which is great because I love sweet potatoes : )  And it's not so heavy on the cinnamon and spices, which I love in baked goods but don't like in teas (I don't get along with chai tea but I usually make a chai spice apple pie every Thanksgiving).  So hooray for new tea!

A couple of days ago I talked to my parents and my mom was like "What's up with mushrooms lately?" because I now have address labels with mushrooms on them (multiple designs, even) and I sent them a mushroom card too and guess what, here's another one!

Joanne already used this stamp set and DSP to make her beautiful card for the Paper Players color challenge but I couldn't resist using them too.  Here's the Paper Players challenge:

I used Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie, and Granny Apple Green, plus a bit of stamped-off Gray Granite for the mushroom stem.  And after I made this card, I finally re-inked my Granny Apple Green ink pad.  I've had to ink up Pretty Peacock and Misty Moonlight too.

Anyway, I used this week's sketch from Atlantic Hearts:

Fun sketch, I enjoyed playing with it.

Miss Daphne is looking at me expectantly so as soon as I finish my tea, I'll take her out for a walk.  Then I'll probably make another cuppa when we get back because it's cold out there : )  Thank goodness I've stocked up on tea, right?  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Terrific Toadstools
Ink:  Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie, Granny Apple Green, Gray Granite
Paper:  Granny Apple Green, Melon Mambo, Thick Basic White, Toadstool Gardens DSP Stack

SUO Challenges Start the Year With a Sketch!

Hey y'all, who else has snow today?  The weather app said a 30% chance of snow last night and it is currently coming down.  Ryan supposedly has a two-hour delay for school so we have about an hour and a half until he needs to get ready to go.  On the other paw, Daph is already ready to go--she woke me up at 5:15 this morning.  So I got up and did a cardio workout and then I thought I'd take Daphne out for a snowy walk before the hubs left for work and Daph decided I needed *another* cardio workout and I think I'm going to need to be heavily caffeinated today!

So let's start with some fun, a new challenge from SUO Challenges!

And it's an awesome sketch!

This is the type of sketch that is great to show off a favorite patterned paper, and that's exactly what I did:

This is the first card I made with the Terrific Toadstools stamp set and coordinating Toadstool Gardens DSP stack.  Aren't the colors fun?  And I just got some new address labels that have mushrooms on them too : )  I really wanted some Pumpkin Pie embellishments for this but I didn't have the Sunny Day Iridescent Dots yet, so I took some plain rhinestones and colored them with a Pumpkin Pie Stampin' Blend.

We hope you'll play along with the sketch and upload your card on the SUO Challenges blog.  Have fun!  As for me, I'm going to go make myself a cuppa tea : )  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Terrific Toadstools
Ink:  Pumpkin Pie, Poppy Parade, Gray Granite, Granny Apple Green, Pumpkin Pie Blend
Paper:  Granny Apple Green, Poppy Parade, Thick Basic White, Toadstool Gardens DSP Stack
Accessories:  Rhinestones, Dimensionals

Poppin' Up for the New Year

Happy New Year, y'all!  I've heard that you should spend New Year's Day doing the things that you want to be doing for the upcoming year...so far, 2025 will include working out, puppy snuggles, doing the dishes (ick), and having tea with my breakfast.  My plans for the rest of the day include being crafty, with stamping, scrapbooking, and cross stitching all on the docket, plus reading : ) Ryan and I started a new book last night, am excited to introduce him to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe!

So anyway...

I saw that on Facebook and had to yoink it to send to my dad.  And now, I have a card to share with a brand new stamp set!

This is not the first card I've made with Terrific Toadstoools from the soon-to-drop Occasions catalog, but it's the first one you're seeing here.  I used this week's Atlantic Hearts sketch:

And the Creative Colour Challenge:

I added just a bit of stamped-off Crumb Cake for the stems, but I thought these earthy tones would go well with the toadstools.

I think I'm going to ponder my goals for this year for a bit before I write about them here.  I always do goals instead of resolutions, I think goals is a better fit for my mindset.  So that's it for now, Ryan wants to watch a movie : )  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Terrific Toadstools
Ink:  Mossy Meadow, Old Olive, Early Espresso, Crumb Cake
Paper:  Early Espresso, Thick Basic White, Old Olive DSP
Accessories:  Speckled Dots (might not be the actual name but I can't find them online)
