Sabbatical...or Unpaid Leave?

After twenty years and 3M+ page views, it's time to take an indefinite break from the Texas Swimming Blog.

Y'all may see a random post down the road, but don't count on those.

This email will still work, so feel free to send one if you'd like.

I'll try to pop on once in a while to dump spammy comments.  No need to wait on me, though - let me know if/when you spot something that needs to be removed.

If I have time, I'll try to keep the links updated as well.

Thanks for your readership, tips, support, and comments!

Has it really been ten years?!?!

Bobby and I went for a "walk in the woods" back in 2015.

We started in Georgia on February 7 and had a very tough go of it early on.

Around April, we were moving along well.

We stumbled out of Maine's 100 Mile Wilderness in July and wrapped up our Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike on the 30th.

Here's the Trail Journal entry from that day:

Day 174, 7/30

Up early and on the trail at 5:30. It didn't take long for the trail to become very challenging. Toughest terrain on the entire AT. Plenty of great views on the ascent. Got to the summit around 9:30. Spent a half hour taking pictures, smoking celebratory cigars, enjoying the view, and chatting with a few others who'd made the early climb. Descent was very difficult. Took almost as long as the climb. Once down, we headed out to the park road and tried hitching. We'd hoped to get to Millinocket tonight and then would try for Medway and Bangor tomorrow. No luck until Butch & Co. pulled over and we climbed into the back of his truck. We'd seen them on the trail earlier. As we talked with his daughter, Elizabeth, Butch drove through Millinocket, past Medway, and all the way to Bangor! Refused gas money. Hands down the best hitch of the dozens we've gotten.
