Painting Lord Of The RIngs Undead

So my painting exploits. limited as they are, have settled upon my Lord of the Rings models. I've got some base colours down on the Uruk-Hai and even pulled apart the Mordor Troll to turn him into an Isengard Troll instead, but that's for another post.

As an aside from all that brown paint, I decided to have a go at the Army of Undead… or at least the first ten models. They were sprayed with GW … White spray (which is actually light grey, and a pig to use at it leave bobbles on your models if the temperature is not optimum) then I touched up the undercoat with Administratum Grey (above). Then came the cool bit.

I saw a blog post somewhere a while ago (though I cannot remember where or find it for love nor money) a neat trick about using the GW technical paint Nihilakh Oxide for undead, so I thought I'd give it a go. It's quite a thin, runny paint so I put some on the palette then lathered the model in it to see what happened. Oh yes, these guys were swimming in it (quite literally when I knocked over the stupid paint pot!)

After leaving it for a while to dry I got to survey the results.

I really like where this is going. The colour in the photo is a little off as it's still quite green like the previous image, but looks good.

I suspect I should have painted the models white before applying the Technical paint as this would have made the high areas, and overall colour brighter. Having said that I'm happy to leave that for the King of the Undead to make him stand out more.

I MAY go back in with some thin white highlights along edges, but this would open the door to shading and another layer of the oxide…

I'm happy for this to be a quick win – Hurrah, I painted something!!

There are still another ten of these guys not yet built but I'll probably go back to my Uruk-Hai until I can order the King of the Dead to lead them. I also managed to acquire Saruman to lead my Uruks, as well as Lurtz and a couple of the Uruk Captains, but I'm in no hurry. I'm happy to have something I can post about!

Post-Game Happy Dance

I've had time to get over my first ever Blood Bowl win at the weekend. I happy danced myself all the way back down the motorway on Sunday afternoon – my first win and the first time that the Undead have scored.

After the elation comes the contemplation. What was so different with this match? What combination of variables collaborated to give me my first win? I think there are several.

First of all, without doubt, the introduction of two additional Ghouls into the team made a big difference. The fact that my Two-Touchdown hero is modelled actually carrying the ball also helped I think, even if only psychologically. It made the team a little faster and, having got used to the Dark Elves in more recent games, I made use of what I had learned and tailored it to the abilities of the Undead.

My opponents for the day were the Boomtown Rats.
This meant that the Undead could also do what they're meant to do – bash!

Bashing is something they've not be great at when facing the Orcs, simply because the Orcs are better at it and have high armour. The Rats had to buddy up to hit most of my Undead players, and when facing Mummies had to be in groups of three or four. The Mummies finally scored their first couple of Casualties, which is a relief. Of course it should have been more, but I can't complain – I went through a good spell of getting high dice for armour rolls against the Rats and there were prone vermin all over the place. We just couldn't convert them into casualties.

Possession. As I mentioned in the match report, the Rats only had the ball for 5 turns out of the 16. This put pressure on Bull to get the ball off me, which in turn played into the bashy aspect of the Undead – up to that point the Rats had been quite stand-off. I could take my time, grinding my way towards the end zone, eating up time and turns. So long as I didn't do anything silly, or leave my ball carrier exposed, things would come good. Keeping possession of the ball also meant that the Rats couldn't make best use of their biggest strength – speed. Once they had the ball, I had a real fight on my hands to do much about it – as the Dark Elves did in the last match – so the best way to stop them scoring was to not give them the ball.

Familiarity. Bull has had time to get used to the Rats a little now. He plays them well – even using Gutter Runners to block – so the fact that he was facing something new (or a new incarnation of something he thought he knew) meant that it took him a little time to acclimatise. My first half TD was evidence of this – by the second half he was more adventurous and got better results trying to break down the cage. Similarly, until picking up the Dark Elves, the Undead are the only team I've ever fielded in Blood Bowl. Whilst I was reasonably comfortable with them, having a different lineup meant I could try new things – e.g. I swapped round my reserve Skeletons and Zombies at different kick-offs depending upon whether I was kicking or receiving.

Experience and Restraint. I was very tempted on several occasions to make a block or blitz to take down a Gutter Runner, yet found myself being cautious. The most important thing for most of the game was to protect my ball carrier, so gave up quite a few blocking opportunities for the sake of the big picture. A couple of games ago this would not have been the case and I would probably have lost the game as a consequence. It also meant I was rolling less dice and by marking Bull's players rather than hitting them meant that he was having to dodge to get away – this ultimately led to the dice roll that ended the game.

Looking forward…

Our next game will be a rematch of the Darkblades vs Boomtown Rats. This will be a very interesting game indeed. After the 2-2 tie in their opening face-off, and the Rats' loss this week, the playing field will be a different arena completely.

The Rats have some skills now and Bull has learned a lot more about them. I too have learned a lot about the Skaven, but need to get a decent game under my belt before the Darkblades face the Orcs again in the following match. I need to have acquired an Apothecary by then or I could be in real trouble – some new skills would help too.

The Gutchewers will get a breather for a couple of games before facing the Rats again. I have a Ghoul and Mummy in need of an MVP paint job – that's the least they deserve after their first win!

Undead Grind Out A Result…

I hadn't played the Undead for quite a few weeks and was worried that my time with the Dark Elves would confuse me during today's Big Match.

Bull and I had both created our own dugouts and Bull had gone one better and produced not only a scoreboard but some advertising boards too. Today's game would certainly be visually appealing!

I had a slightly different lineup today, with the addition of two new Ghouls – Nikolai Direblight and Landon Withering. This meant I had two guys in reserve and my team would be slightly faster (and squishier) than previously. Would this be a winning combo? I could only cross my fingers and hope.

I managed to come out on top with the fan factor and was sitting pretty with a +1. Bull won the kick off roll and decided to receive. The Kick-Off table immediately poked me in the eye with a 'high kick', meaning that Bull could move his guy directly underneath the ball. He failed to catch it but, with his 'Sure Hands' re-roll, recovered possession (top image).

I kept my defence quite deep as I knew I didn't want to be caught flat-footed. I didn't have nearly the speed of the Skaven – those Boomtown Rats are fast, as my Dark Elves had discovered!

It didn't seem to matter and in only his second turn Bull carved out some space and threw a long pass to a Gutter Runner waiting in the end zone!

Boomtown Rats 1–0

That had been quite devastating and shook my confidence – this could turn into a massacre.

Bull kicked to me and the Kick-Off table revealed 'perfect defence' – Bull could reposition his entire team… but chose not to.

The ball was kind and landed a square or two away from my ghouls sitting in the back field. I created some protection and Direblight strode in to pick up the ball… success first time.

We moved towards the left side of the field and a cage gradually formed around the ball carrier.

For the next five turns we rumbled down the field, the Skaven not prepared to commit more than a token defence for fear of casualties. Bull made a few attempts to get to ball carrier via the back of the cage, but a series of failed dodge rolls kept his turns short and the Undead rumbled on.

I slowed things down, stalling to ensure I would score in turn 8. This would spark the half time break and ensure that Bull had no chance for a quick reply score. Eventually, with almost the entire Undead team for protection, Nikolai Direblight strolled in for his (and the Undead's) first ever touchdown!!

The new guys had made an instant impact… holy cow we've actually scored!

Boomtown Rats 1–1 Grave's End Gutchewers

I'll be honest, I'd have taken a draw at half time, but Bull was kicking to me in the second half and my team were shining when in possession – a far cry from the early games vs the Orcs.

I was feeling a glimmer of confidence going into the second half, but knowing how quickly the Rats can score meant I couldn't slip up or they would be in for their second TD.

My bubble was burst rather quickly when the kick-off scattered all the way back to the half-way line – far away from my ghouls. It landed in a square occupied by a Skeleton who failed to pick it up. It then scattered to a square on the half-way line occupied by Dante Dedleg – my zombie blocker – who caught it!!?!!

Amazing!!

However, he was horribly exposed and only a line of downed Rats were blocking the hits coming in. Bull hammered his way towards the zombie ball carrier but only managed a series of pushes. This left the zombie unhindered and he handed the ball off to our hero of the hour, Direblight.

I attempted to re-create the caged scenario from the first turn, but things weren't going to plan. Bull was being much more reckless with his Rats, knowing that he needed to knock the ball free this time to get a shot at winning the game. I didn't help myself by getting tied up in knots and left my Mummies and a Wight terribly out of position and unable to support the advance properly.

This time, instead of stalling, I was getting bogged down and as the turns progressed I had less and less protection for the ball carrier. In the end it reached crunch time. I wouldn't survive another turn with the ball so had to go for it.

The only option open to me involved Direblight dodging out of a tackle zone, blitzing a line rat then running to the line and having to roll a 'go for it' to make it into the end zone for the score. Very risky but I had a dodge roll and a team re-roll so it could happen.

I managed to block a Gutter Runner out of the way with another ghoul, negating the need for the initial dodge move (above). This was great but still risky.

I shouldn't have worried – Direblight was on fire in his debut game an scored his touchdown without the need of a single re-roll!!

Boomtown Rats 1–2 Grave's End Gutchewers

Phew! That had been touch-and-go there and the big issue was that I had scored sooner than I would have liked. Bull now had 3 turns to equalise – more than enough based upon previous exploits.

It was then that Nuffle stepped in and granted 'Throw A Rock' on the Kick-Off table, which I promptly won. A random roll later and one of Bull's blitzers was in the dead box – the victim of the jubilant Gutchewers away supporters. He was now down 3 players!

The kick-off was kind to me and the ball scattered into the right corner, ensuring Bull had almost the maximum distance to travel. I sat back in my half and waited for the Gutter Runners – however, Bull's thrower was off the pitch so he sent a couple of the speedy rats to retrieve the ball. That left only 2 to worry about down field.

Bull carried the ball almost to the half-way line and in my last turn all I could do was surround the Gutter Runners who were just loitering outside my end zone and hope for the best. I had done all I could do – if Bull managed to pull off a score in his final turn he would deserve the draw.

It was going to take something special, but the dice just hadn't been on his side this game and his Gutter Runner fell flat on his face trying to dodge out of a tackle zone. Turnover – end of the game!

Gutchewers win 2–1

I don't believe it!!

Dice rolls later, my heroic Ghoul – Nikolai Direblight – had rolled either +1 MA, +1AV or a new skill. Chey Charmin, my big hitting Mummy who had racked up 2 Casualties, had rolled a new skill – probably Guard.

Do I take the move bonus for the Ghoul or Block or Sure Hands?

Much to think about!

I also won a lot of money. I have the potential for another couple of re-rolls but don't want to bloat the team value too much.

Thanks to Bull for being a superb host and a gallant loser – a new experience for him. I have no doubt he will come back next game and take it out on the Dark Elves!

As for the new Dugout, aside from a Wight sitting in the KO box for a single turn and my two Reserves chilling out, it was unused – just as planned.

Of the 16 turns we played in this game, Nikolai Direblight was in possession of the ball for 10 of them and the Rats only had the ball for the first 2 and last 3 turns!

Seems like my plan came together all round!

Undead Dugout Progression

I was hoping to have a fully painted dugout in time for the game on Sunday, but a domestic disaster has meant my paints and hobby gear has been put away with no opportunity to paint for a while – the dugout will take its place as it is.

I did, however, manage to get some time in earlier this week painting basecoats, washes and some highlights. As you can see it's really starting to shape up and shouldn't involve too much more work before it is complete. I'm very happy with the direction this is going – I just need to create a scoreboard in the same style!

The eagle-eyed amongst you might have seen my turn and re-roll counters in their pre-paint state in an earlier post. They have now had their basecoat and the gravestones have had a wash and highlight.

I did have them originally as simple gravestones, but made a last minute decision to add a hand trying to get out! This should look pretty amazing once complete. I'll talk about both pieces more once they're finished.

Looking forward to the game against the Rats on Sunday!!

Blood Bowl: Undead Dugout

Inspired by Bull's dugout project, and with our next game due in a week, I spent some time yesterday to start my own dugout for Blood Bowl.

Those of you who have been visiting this blog for a while may remember my unfinished cemetery terrain for Malifaux. It's been sitting in the attic for quite some time, with no hope of ever being finished. With a bit of creative chopping the cemetery became the perfect undead dugout.

In addition to the plastic walls from the Garden of Morr kit, I also managed to save the card stonework from the cemetery board, which saved a lot of time and grief. I'd bought the GW plastic walls and fences kit a while ago for Malifaux and make use of the leftover pieces to complete the basic construction, allowing me to separate the Reserves, Knocked Out and Dead 'boxes'.

I found a metal corpse in amongst my recently purchased Ghouls and this simply had to go in the Dead box. Similarly I had some Mantic zombies, so cut a guy in half and had him emerging from the Reserves box. I also made use of a Renedra plastic gravestone, originally bought for the Malifaux cemetery. One final piece was the signpost from the walls and fences kit, complete with lamp.

Any suggestions of what to paint on the signpost gratefully received!

A lot of PVA glue and sand later the dugout is looking in good shape. As soon as the weather clears up I'll get it sprayed.

The intention is to get some basic colour on it in time for the weekend – hopefully there won't be much use for it on match day!

Undead Back In Play

My next Blood Bowl match will see me back with the Grave's End Gutchewers as they square up against the squeaky clean Boomtown Rats.

I am going to struggle to contain those Gutter Runners with my Undead being slower than the Dark Elves, so I will have to keep my concentration and create a new plan to beat them. As much as Bull learned a lot about the Skaven in his last game, I learned a lot too. I'm hoping that the Gutchewers can come out of the losing streak we're on at the moment, hence we're mixing up the opposition for both Rats and Undead.

This is the Gutchewer roster at the moment. Not a lot to shout about, aside from the Block skill for Monsieur Deadleg and the arrival of a couple of new players. I also have some cash to spend, maybe some Cheerleaders and Coaches or maybe I hang onto it for my next re-roll.

Anyway, as mentioned we have two new players. This is where I went wrong with my original starting list. I created a roster based upon the models I had and this didn't take advantage of the fact I can take up to four Ghouls – the fastest (and squishiest) models on my team who come with the Dodge skill.

The hope is that my increasing the number of fast(er) models on my team I can give myself a chance to catch these Rats as they scurry about the pitch. I will have to put a couple of players on the subs bench to accommodate the new arrivals, but this does mean that I'm likely to have 11 players available to me for the entire match, unless the casualties start to mount up.

I'd also quite like to score, just once, with the Undead and having four Ghouls gives me the best chance of that. It will be quite a sad state of affairs if the Gutchewers can't score at all in their first three games. They're already propping up the league table and another loss would cement their wooden spoon place I think.

However, since the last Gutchewer game against the Orcs we've discovered several things we've been doing wrong. First of all, prone models who stand up and Block use up the team's Blitz move for the turn. Secondly, you can pass in the same turn that you pick up the ball! In addition, players who get Knocked Out, don't count towards Casualty SPPs – I think the Orcs would have a lot less points if we'd have known any of this things earlier on!

If I can get the Ghouls into the game and the Mummies finally step up and play their part then we could be on for a cracking game. If they don't then it could be the biggest one-sided match in the league so far with the Skaven literally run rings around me.

To be continued…

Blood Bowl: In The Dugout

A bit of an update now, behind the scenes at both the Gutchewers' and Darkblades' camps.

With a game on Saturday against the newbie Boomtown Rats, attention this week has been on the Darkblades… or rather the new-look plastic Darkblades. You may have seen the first completed model, Adin Heartrender last week. Needless to say the rest of the Blitzers and Linemen are being finished.

However, construction was paused to allow the Darkblade Runner, Rakiri Razorwing, to make an appearance. Currently out of action due to a broken rib, Rakiri is recovering nicely…

The basis for this model is a plastic Dark Eldar Wyche – nothing complicated about that. I cut the left arm at the elbow and trimmed the shoulder joint the allow the arm to be positioned at a more obtuse angle.

A football was created out of greenstuff and positioned on the hip, dry-fitting the forearm to ensure a good angle, etc. I gave it an hour to start curing before gluing the forearm into position and filling gaps in the elbow. I also trimmed all the fingers off the right hand – she had been holding a pistol and her trigger finger looked odd – and replaced with greenstuff, pressing into it to indicate a clenched fist and thumb.

On the back I trimmed off the sci-fi backpack and added a disc for her player number. Because the Wyches come with tabs at their feet and slotta bases (and I wanted to add a penny weight underneath a standard base) I had left a block of the tab to ensure a more solid join on the base. I disguised this with leftover greenstuff and made the base surface uneven, ready for texture.

She's almost ready to be painted now, which is rather exciting.

Over in the Gutchewers' camp, yesterday's mystery player revealed himself.

I've realised that the reason I've struggled to score with the Undead team is because none of the models are actually posed holding a football!… makes perfect sense.

With that in mind I made a couple of Christmas purchases, the first of which arrived yesterday.

This is my new Ghoul player. Originally he was bought to represent the Undead star player J. Earlice, but I can only add him to the roster as an inducement so it won't happen often – he will probably start life as a regular ghoul.

The model came from Heresy Miniatures and was sculpted by Paul Muller and Andy Foster. It is beautifully detailed (if something this rotten can be considered beautiful) and I'm really looking forward to painting him up in the Gutchewers' colours. As you can see I've added a small disc to his strap for his player number, but he's ready to go!

More soon…

Mysterious Undead Player…

Who is this individual, seen training with the Grave's End Gutchewers today?

A new player perhaps… or has someone just been working out?

Stay tuned…

Blood Bowl: The Rematch…

After the disappointment of an opening game loss I was keen to get back into it and dish out some payback to those Orks, and the Gobbo especially – he was going home in a bucket!!

There had been an Undead hero in the previous game and it was time to lavish some attention. Dedleg, my Zombie lineman (above) had knocked out a Black Ork in the previous game, drawing first blood and being awarded the Gutchewers' MVP as a consequence. As well as receiving a new skill "Block" for his achievement he also had some alone time on the painting table. He was looking a lot more like a star player now!

So I arrived at the Orkland Raiders' stadium yesterday with a week of research and an action plan. However, the one thing I hadn't banked on was the wrath of the dice gods. It seems that I have insulted them in a previous life to such an extent that my dice rolling is beginning to defy the laws of probability and averages.

The game started well – I chose to receive and the ball landed kindly. The first few actions were spent positioning my team so that we could make our move in the following turn. Gone were the reckless blocks in favour of something entirely more strategic.

As expected the Orks came at us… and the Gobbo came flying over the heads of the players to land almost on top of the ball.

With the previous game still fresh in the mind, it was decided that I should follow through on my promise. The gobbo got hit… and then we stamped on his head, sending him to the 'dead' box, no longer to play a part in the game. He would indeed be going home in a bucket!

It was at this point that my problems began. I just couldn't pick up the ball.

I sent a Ghoul towards the left flank and a Wight down the right so that I could throw a pass of some description and get the ball out of my own half and away from the rush of the Orks. Alas my ball carrier didn't survive the turn to attempt a pass and the ball bounced out of his unconscious hands.

As had happened all game, the ball was magnetically attracted to the Ork players, randomly bouncing balls always ending up at Ork feet. Even when I mashed the Ork thrower (above) the ball bounced into the arms of the nearby Blitzer, despite being surrounded by undead players.

In addition, most of my hits were resulting in ineffective pushes or backfiring and my own players going down. The dice gods were not on my side.

It wasn't long before the Orks strolled in for their first touchdown. With one turn left and me receiving, I decided to try and inflict some damage on the opposition.

As the half came to a close things were looking bad for the Undead. Not only were we a score down, but we had some major players off the field, including Dedleg.

The hope was the second half would be kinder… not to be. In fact things got steadily worse. My dice rolling was now becoming ridiculously poor and the ball ever more attracted to the Orks. In the end, with my team unable to hold the ball for more than a turn and the game surely lost, I decided to switch tactics. I let the Orks have the run of the field and concentrated on killing a few more.

Even this proved to be a futile tactic. Even when outnumbering individual Orks 5-1 my team were unable to foul any more of the opposition, often unable to knock them down. This was epitomised when a mummy blitzed an Ork Blitzer only to fall over his own bandages (despite using a team re-roll) and injured himself, taking no further part in the game. That's the equivalent of rolling double-1 TWICE, followed by 11 or 12 on 2D6 TWICE. That was quite some feat!

The Orks strolled in for their second touchdown and the game came to an eventual conclusion.

Having felt somewhat robbed in last week's game I had steeled myself for this week, able to laugh off a lot of the bad luck. Yet even Bullcher commented how the bad dice weren't making for a great game.

Luckily, all my injured players returned unhurt, but with a measly 2 SPP for the entire team there was not much chance of new skills. The MVP eventually went to the Mummy, Charmin, who managed to stay on his feet for the entire second half and knocked down a couple of Orks in the process. Clutching at straws to be sure.

Throughout the whole game the Undead had managed less than 6 knockdowns, which is simply staggering.

Having saved money up to this point we can splash out on new players, however the Orks are starting to acquire new skills which is going to make things more difficult going forward. The Undead can do a good job of defending, we just can't do anything with the ball – even on a 3+ with re-rolls we drop it – and I'm running out of ideas.

Time to find a star player to join us!

21 December 2013

The Big (Blood Bowl) Match!

Game day arrived and the Grave's End Gutchewers travelled up the M20 to visit the Orcland Raiders – first Blood Bowl game of the season. The Undead were all painted, and I'd remembered to pack them – the signs were looking good (aside from the atrocious weather!).

All the pre-game amble was done and we were ready to kick off – Orcs receiving in fine weather. As I am slowly learning, Blood Bowl is a game of no control and complete randomness – despite kicking the ball to land between the two Orcs at the back of the pitch, the ball bounced a staggering amount and finally landed behind the troll, almost on the half way line (see above).

It was promptly scooped up by the Orc thrower as the Black Orcs and Blitzers started to form a cage. Models on both sides were getting knocked about but mostly getting back up. It was very balanced and the Orcs were being rather cautious on their opening drive as both teams jockeyed for position.

With all that violence it wasn't long before we had our first casualty. A Black Orc was taken down by the zombie Dedleg, and off the pitch he was dragged to be patched up.

A gap opened up on the right side and before I knew it the Orc thrower darted down the touchline and was in danger of breaking away. The Gutchewers rallied pulling as many players across as could be spared. Lots of josling ensued as the Orcs edged their way down the pitch.

The pressure grew on the ball carrier and eventually he was knocked out of play and into the dead bucket by the skeleton Bones, ably supported by Dedleg, the ghoul Mantanner and Drex the mummy. The ball got spilled… where would it land?!

Well, the ball landed straight into the lap of the Orc Blitzer who had been stood next to the Thrower. He ran back towards his own half of the pitch and hid behind a Black Orc, running down the clock to half time. So the ball finished the half pretty much in the same place it started!

++++++++++

Finely poised then at the break as we moved into the other room for pizza. We had been joined mid-way through the first half by Michael from 28mm Victorian Warfare, who had been keenly taking in the action.

++++++++++

Second half began, Gutchewers receiving. Again the kicked ball bounced hideously back to the halfway line. It landed on one skeleton (Bones) who didn't know what was going on, then bounced to the skeleton, Creaky, next to him who also failed to pick it up. It then shot back into the Orc half resulting in a touchback – meaning I could give the ball to any player I liked.

The Orcs had left an inviting gap in the middle of the field, a trap no doubt but I had devised a way to get through and, with a bit of luck, catch them flat-footed.

Alas it wasn't to be and the tiny gap I'd left exposed proved fatal as Bull managed to knock down the ghoul ball carrier Ateman and the pigskin flew up into the air again. It landed in Creaky's lap again but he couldn't hold onto it and dropped into the square next to him (above).

I concocted an alternative plan and wheels were put in motion and a gap created on the left flank for the other ghoul, Mantanner, to exploit.

Again, luck was not on my side and Bull managed to somehow get a Blizter across to foil my plan. The ball spilled again.

With some creative blocking the Goblin managed to squeeze through the gaps, pick up the ball and ran hell for leather towards the end zone.

Retaliation was swift and Mantanner recovered to blitz the goblin spilling the ball into the air again. Bull sent a Blitzer charging after the ghoul but everything was set up beautifully for the Undead recovery.

Then disaster…

The mummy Charmin blitzed the Orc Blitzer, to free up the ghoul to get the ball. It was a straightforward manoeurvre but I managed to roll double skull – the equivalent of a double 1 and meant I was face-down in the dirt and my turn ended. Not to worry, I used a team re-roll and tried again…

DOUBLE SKULL AGAIN!!

I couldn't believe what I was seeing – how can you roll the equivalent of a double 1 followed by a double 1…!?!

This handed the goblin a good shot at getting to the ball. He wriggled out of the ghoul's tackle zone but couldn't pick up the ball. Back to me.

With no team re-rolls left I decided to do a couple of easy hits first before the ghoul went for the ball. This time the other mummy, Drex, managed to roll very badly and fell on his face. ARGHH!

The goblin was not going to miss a second time, scooped up the ball and skipped into the end zone.

Touchdown Orcland Raiders.

With only two turns of the game left there was not much that could be done and the game ended.

+++++  Orcland Raiders 1–0 Grave's End Gutchewers +++++

Wow.
Wasn't terribly happy during that second half, the dice gods were definitely not on my side one bit. This is what I have found frustrating about Blood Bowl – I like to have a certain level of control when gaming, but this game can be totally random and you need to be able to deal with that. Today I wasn't and so endured a hard time of things at the end.

We came away with a loss, but the MVP Dedleg got a new skill and the two casualties I had survived unscathed, just about.

My thanks to Bull for hosting a great day – let the banter begin – and thanks to Michael for making the journey up to see us. He managed to get a bit of a game in before home time which was excellent (aside from that bloody goblin scored again!).

Looking forward to a re-match sometime over the Christmas holidays.

We will return… and next time the goblin's going home in a bucket!
