ALASKA RESOLUTION 17-xxx 

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, STATING THAT THE CITY OF HOMER ADHERES TO THE PRINCIPLE OF INCLUSION AND HEREIN COMMITTING THIS CITY TO RESISTING EFFORTS TO DIVIDE THIS COMMUNITY WITH REGARD TO RACE, RELIGION, ETHNICITY, GENDER, NATIONAL ORIGIN, PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES, OR SEXUAL ORIENTATION REGARDLESS OF THE ORIGIN OF THOSE EFFORTS, INCLUDING FROM LOCAL, STATE OR FEDERAL AGENCIES. 

WHEREAS, A new administration is in power in Washington, D.C. without a popular mandate; 

WHEREAS, During his campaign, President Donald Trump made statements offensive and harmful to the rights of women; immigrants; religious, racial, and ethnic minorities; veterans; the disabled; LGBTQ citizens; and the general public; and that such statements have continued since his election; and 

WHEREAS, The President on numerous occasions has stated clearly his disregard for freedom of speech; freedom of the press; freedom of assembly; and freedom of religion, particularly with regard to Muslim Americans; and 

WHEREAS, The President has not disavowed his intention to create a registry of Muslim Americans and now intends to ban Muslims from entering the United States; and 

WHEREAS, The President now is following through on his promises to deport millions of undocumented immigrants, including millions brought here as children who have grown up to know no other life than that of an American; and 

WHEREAS, The President now is following through on plans to build a wall on the border separating the United States from Mexico without apparent regard to its cost, its effects upon our nation’s economy, or its sociological ramifications, and to impose an ideological test for entry into our country; and 

WHEREAS, The President has promised to repeal federal regulations protecting LGBTQ citizens; and 

WHEREAS, The President already has issued executive orders to effect the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, which provides tens of millions of Americans with health care insurance coverage; and 

WHEREAS, The President has issued executive orders to rescind certain women’s reproductive rights; and 

WHEREAS, The President has promised to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement and to remove other environmental protections instituted under the previous administration, and has begun a process to dismantle the Environmental Protection Agency; and 

WHEREAS, Before and especially since the election, some citizens have been emboldened to express overtly an intolerance of diversity that is opposed to the views of most Homer residents and most Americans; and 

WHEREAS, The President’s cabinet nominees have expressed views similar to those laid out in the whereas clauses above and thus are largely out of step with the attitudes of most Homer residents; and 

WHEREAS, The presidential election has exposed deep social and political divisions among Americans and these divisions threaten the general peace as expressions of intolerance rise; and 

WHEREAS, The City of Homer recognizes that while the minority community here may be relatively small, it may be vulnerable, and that if those residents feel in any way threatened simply because they are minorities, the City should be on record as opposing all such intolerance; and 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Homer unequivocally rejects expressions of fear and hate wherever they may exist, and specifically rejects harassment of women, immigrants, religious minorities, racial and ethnic minorities, and LGBTQ individuals. 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Homer embraces all people regardless of skin color, country of birth, faith, sex, gender, marital status, or abilities; and that the City of Homer will not waver in its commitment to inclusion and to continuing to create a village safe for a diverse population. BE IT 

FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Homer will resist any and all efforts to profile undocumented immigrants or any other vulnerable population. 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Homer will cooperate with federal agencies in detaining undocumented immigrants when court-issued federal warrants are delivered. 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Homer shall steadfastly defend the United States and Alaska constitutions, especially with regard to the former’s precedent-backed right of privacy and the latter’s specified right of privacy (Article 1, Section 22), and safeguard the rights declared in the Bill of Rights. 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Homer will continue its staunch support of our local police in their ongoing efforts to enforce law and protect our community and its visitors in a just, unbiased and transparent manner. 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Homer will declare itself a safety net for the most vulnerable members of and visitors to our community. 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Homer calls on all its citizens to stand against intolerance and resist expressions of hate toward any members of the community, and thus to set an example for the rest of the nation, demonstrating that Homer residents and Alaskans adhere to the principle of live-and-let-live.

I have no idea how I missed this clip, but I am definitely going to make up for that oversight now.

When Palin-bots attack, protecting those that refuse to be bullied.

I have received numerous requests that I come to the aid of Kathleen Gustafson, the Homer educator who is the latest person to find herself on the receiving end of a barrage of unscrupulous attacks by the nutjobs that support Sarah Palin.

So here is my question. Why?

Now I don't know Kathleen Gustafson personally but from what I have gleaned by joyfully watching the YouTube video numerous times is that she comes off as a very confident intelligent woman.  Who, by the way, had NO discernible difficulty standing up to arguably one of the most powerful woman in the country, as well as her disrespectful daughter, as the glowering Todd Palin and her camera blocking security guy offered extra intimidation on Sarah's behalf.

You see unlike Sarah Palin, MOST Alaska women can take care of themselves.  And Kathleen Gustafson did exactly that!

I have also been asked why the teacher's union or school district do not rush to Kathleen's defense, and the answer is the same reason they did not rush to MY defense back in August of last year.  Kathleen was NOT representing her school, nor her union, but rather was acting as a private citizen expressing her first amendment rights on private property.  If ANYBODY should be speaking out for Mrs. Gustafson's rights, it should be the American people.  And they have here, here, here, here, and of course here.

However that support was only in response to the completely irrational and scurrilous attacks by the Palin-bots who essentially lost their shit when Palin's disrespectful eyeroll was pointed out in several blogs and news sites.

First they, and Sarah's Facebook ghostwriter, claimed there was NO eyeroll.

However there is the unfortunate reality of this now famous YouTube video.



Did you miss it?  Well then play it again and watch carefully at the 1:12 mark. There it is, plain as day.
Dammit! Palin-bots just HATE IT when facts get in the way of their attempts to obfuscate reality.

Okay then, well the next step is to discredit the person Palin is having the conflict with. 

Ah hah! The sweaty little Palin-bots "discovered" that she worked for Planned Parenthood and was technically called a Theater Tech, not a teacher, so now they mythologize the encounter by claiming that Palin rolled her eyes because one of her lesser known super powers is the ability to perceive when somebody is attempting to deceive her.  Even though evidence exists which kind of contradicts that assertion as well. (By the way the Homer Tribune themselves identify Kathleen Gustafson as a teacher, and we have to believe THEY would know.)

Look let's cut to the chase and talk about the REAL issue here. 

Sarah Palin walked 100 feet out of her way to confront a woman, standing on private property, about a sign she made that DID NOT EVEN MENTION PALIN BY NAME. She then acted indignant and overly defensive, and when she asked the woman what she did for a living, and heard "teacher", she clearly rolled her eyes, made a sour face, and shot her daughter a look of "Oh now I get it." And you can see pretty much all of that (except the walking up part) on the video up above. 

The real problem with the story, and the reason that Palin and her minions are so upset, is that it clearly shows that Palin has the thinnest skin imaginable, and without handlers constantly on hand to help control her actions and words, she is almost certainly going to react poorly to any given situation and make it much, much worse. After all Katie Couric only asked VP candidate Palin the same questions she would have asked ANYBODY ELSE RUNNING FOR THAT OFFICE!  It took Sarah Palin's incredible incompetence to make it a YouTube phenomenon.

You see Sarah Palin's worst enemy, is Sarah Palin, and the people who support her are becoming more and more aware of that fact.  THAT is why they are so quick to try and defuse any gaffe's made by Caribou Barbie.  It is in the hope that the people who are still undecided about Palin will not be exposed to any videos which provide them the opportunity to see her being herself.  Believe me, NOTHING could be more damaging to her image!

So don't you worry about Kathleen Gustafson, she will be just fine in the long run.  In fact I have very little doubt that a great number of people will consider her to be a hero for representing so many Americans in how they feel about Sarah Palin and her ridiculous traveling circus act.

You know I don't think I am going to get tired of watching that video any time soon.

The attention that Homer's Kathleen Gustafson's encounter with Sarah has received has brought Palin's Facebook writer out to do a little damage control.

While filming the Alaska documentary in Homer, I had a brief discussion with a local lady (She can't even bring herself to acknowledge Kathleen Gustafson's name!) who , in typical Alaska style, decided to give me her two cents worth about my political leanings, American politics in general, and much else besides. It’s what makes our politics so uniquely democratic: two people discussing the things they care about, even though they respectfully disagree about just about everything (you can watch a brief video of the encounter here). (Mad props to RAM for linking to the video.  That is pretty, if you don't mind my saying, ballsy of you because when people actually SEE it they are definitely NOT going to buy your version of this exchange.)

The LSM (Oh God, now we are abbreviating "Lame Stream Media?") has now decided to use this brief encounter for another one of their spin operations. They claim I – wait for it – “appear to roll my eyes” when the lady tells me she’s a teacher. Yes, it’s come to this: the media is now trying to turn my eyebrow movements into story lines. (Maybe that’s why Botox is all the rage – if you can’t move your eyebrows, your “eye rolling” can’t be misinterpreted!) (Holy crap!  Can you believe that RAM mentioned "Botox?" By the way I don't believe that they Botox eyeballs do they?) If they had checked their facts first, they would have known that I come from a family of teachers; my grandparents were teachers, my father was a teacher, my brother is a teacher, my sister works in Special Needs classrooms, my aunt is a school nurse, my mom worked as a school secretary for much of her professional life, we all volunteer in classrooms, etc., etc., etc. (NO, we checked all of that out.  Doesn't change your response though does it?) Given that family history, how likely is it that I would “roll my eyes” at someone telling me that they too work in that honorable profession? (May I?  VERY likely, thanks for asking.) Stay classy, LSM.

One good thing to come out of this little episode, though, is that it helps to remind people once again that Alaska is a great state full of independent-minded people. I look forward to introducing you to some of them in the forthcoming documentary series on life in Alaska! The show will remind you to get outdoors, breathe in God’s creation, and taste the freedom! (Did she just turn this embarrassing encounter which demonstrates what a nasty piece of work she is into a commercial for her crappy reality show?  Is THAT how YOU "stay classy" Ms. Palin?)

One Homer resident's brush with Sarah Palin leads to a confrontation and a trampling of her first amendment rights.

Risking accusations of being all “Wee-Wee’d Up“, one Homer woman made a sign in her shed. She then took the 30 foot by 3 foot banner out to the boat harbor. It said “WORST GOVERNOR EVER“. Kathleen Gustafson is a teacher married to a local commercial fisherman. She felt like Sarah Palin had let the state down by becoming a dollar-chasing celebrity and ignoring the oath of office she’d sworn on a Bible.

Kathleen was motivated by the fact Palin was using the very place where her family makes a living to fortify the Palin personality cult-pretending to do the very thing they worked so hard to sustain. Initially, Kathleen just wanted to waste a little of the camera crew’s time, since Palin wasted so much of her time purporting to represent Alaska’s interests.

She didn’t imagine Palin would be so easy to draw out.

For anybody who wants to get a glimpse of the REAL Sarah Palin, Shannyn Moore's post, and the accompanying video, are a must see!

(By the way Bristol is also in the video, and though she is wearing a jacket, it appears that the rumors about her pregnancy may turn out to be just that, rumors.)

Update:  It appears that a local reporter was also left singed by his brush with Palin and her minions.

Update 2: Okay I watched that video a couple of more times, and now I am not at all sure that was Bristol in the red jacket.  That may very well have been Willow.  Sometimes those two girls look SO much alike. (Okay that is DEFINITELY Willow.  I slowed the video down and when she looks directly at the camera there is no doubt.  Sorry for the confusion, when I was first tipped off that this video existed the tipper had already identified the girl as Bristol, and I guess I did not have my early morning eyes focused well enough to notice the mistake.)

As predicted Palin's Facebook ghostwriter cannot give up on her feud with Politifact.

As I posted yesterday Palin's ghostwriter, Rebecca Mansour, is engaged in a very aggressive battle to prove that Sarah Palin is NOT an idiot, and that she in fact understands hard stuff like the economy, budgets, and that "reasearchy" thing that the Democrats are so good at.

However the twisted thing about this little spat is that it is NOT between Politifact and half term governor/ex-vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.  It is between a VERY insecure woman who "pretends" to be Sarah Palin on Facebook and an organization that is really only trying to hold politicians and others accountable for their misstatements, including Democrats like Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and even President Obama. (Who, by the way, do NOT feel it necessary to challenge Politifact on their ratings.)

So yesterday RAM fired off another salvo against Politifact from behind the safety of her Palin Facebook facade. I will not bore you with the whole thing because it is once against jam packed with bits and pieces of patched together information designed to discredit Politifact and smear President Obama. However  I WOULD like you to read this very last paragraph:

(By the way, the Left sure gets wee-wee’d up when they’re called on something like this, eh? And here I am, thousands of miles away from DC out on a commercial fishing boat, working my butt off for my own business, merely asking the Democrat politicos and their liberal friends in the media: “What’s the plan, man?”, and they seem to feel threatened by my question. So, I’ll go back to setting my hooks and watching the halibut take the bait, and when I come back into the boat’s cabin in a few hours, I’ll log back on here to read their reply. I’ll have succeeded if they’re forced to finally reveal to Americans how they plan to increase taxes, and what they intend to do with our money. In the meantime, I’m catching fish.)

Time for a reality check here folks.  The person who wrote the above statement is NOT out fishing in Homer, Alaska!  They are NOT currently being filmed for a reality show!  They are not married to hunky Todd Palin! They are not the darling of the Teabaggers! And they are NOT named Sarah Louise Palin!

The person who wrote that is somebody who has slipped on the persona of Sarah Palin in order to FINALLY be taken more seriously in the world, and is using that facade to make herself seem more important, and more relevant, than she has ever felt just being plain old Rebecca Mansour.

If you Google Rebecca Mansour you will be hard pressed to find even ONE picture of her, however you will find dozens upon dozens of pictures of Sarah Palin. In many ways Mansour has absorbed Palin's persona and undoubtedly walks around feeling that her spirit lives within her and makes her somehow much more special than she feels all on her own. In the craziness that always seems to surround Sarah Palin, this person might be one of the most certifiably crazy.

Other politicians have people on their staff to help them write their speeches and articles for the papers, but I don't believe I have ever heard of one who has such a bizarre individual channeling them as completely and as consistently as RAM.  I cannot decide if she is more like Yolanda Saldivar or Buffalo Bill from the "Silence of the Lambs," who made a suit out of the skin of women he killed in order to make himself feel more feminine.

I don't often take it upon myself to give advice to Sarah Palin, but if you ARE reading this I would keep a very cautious eye on your "biggest fan", because there is something just not right there.  Of course if RAM is the one who has been monitoring my blog for Palin, then it is highly doubtful that she will ever even hear about this post.
