Boredom? Yes, please!!!

Well, friends the past two weeks have been non-stop craziness beginning with both Leo and Ginger needing to take trips to our vet. Leo refused to eat and vomiting (not normal for him!) so, long story short, our vet examined him and best diagnosis was he may have gotten into something he should not have as lately he is been knocking over the kitchen trash can. She gave him a shot of Cerenia  to calm his stomach and an RX of Mirataz (mirtazapine) transdermal ointment to induce his appetite - if necessary. The next morning he began to eat and act like himself again.

Then, Ginger began hacking/coughing (a lot!) and vomiting up her food so yesterday I ran her to the vet in the morning before work. Our vet performed blood work and a urinalysis. The tests came back normal for both. So I ran her back to the vet AGAIN this morning to have two x-rays taken to see if respiratory issues (or anything else related) would tell us more about what is going on with her ... 😢

 Butterscotch joined in ...

Teddy chilling ...

And, on top of everything else, after I got back from Leo's vet appointment last Monday, while rushing around to get to work on time, I accidentally dropped half the metal piece of the toilet paper roll holder down the toilet when trying to replace the toilet paper. FLUSH! Right down! So, the plumber came out yesterday morning to check it out - got lucky and it made it through the trap because we do not have a septic system we are hooked up to a sewage pipe line instead. THANK GOD!

Change of subject ...

Last Saturday evening, one of the officers of the Sinking Spring VFW had asked me if I would be interested in creating nine new centerpieces for their tables. The current ones are too light weight and topple over easily so I was asked to replaced them with something a) patriotic and b) heavier and more sturdy.

The current centerpieces ...

They would like them by Veteran's Day in November. I am probably going to check out Michael's Arts & Crafts this Saturday to try to find red, white, and blue bottles, some glass stones or the like to place inside them to give weight to the bottom, and some decorative ribbons, etc.

Saturday post

Greetings, my dear friends and happy Saturday to you all! Being that it is Veteran's Day today, I thought I would post a little something in their honor. My father served in the Army during the Korean War and Perry's father had served as well.

I work with quite a few veteran's who have served in various branches of the military and yesterday, one of them handed out poppies which she handmade herself to all of us employees in honor of "Remembrance Day." ...

Each year, my High School Band would perform on our football field for what was called "Band Day" in which we would play and perform to "Stars and Stripes Forever" in honor of veterans.

The other day, I came across some old (albeit not so technologically advanced at the time) footage of my 1983 Senior High School marching Band when we competed in the Festival of States Nationals in St. Petersburg, Florida. If you fast forward the video to the time of 1:20, you will see me marching with my twirling squad in the Festival of States yearly parade. Can you find me? LOL!!

A beautiful scene to behold!

As promised per my reply to my friend Kiwijo's comment in my last post, here is a lovely pic of the Tower of London and its' wonderfully touching display of poppies which represent a poppy for each and every British soldier who has fallen in war ... just love this!

Remembrance Poppies

The red poppy has become a familiar symbol of Remembrance Day due to the poem “In Flanders Fieldswritten by Col. John McCrae. These poppies bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in World War I and their brilliant red color became a symbol for the blood spilled in the war.

The red poppies that McCrae referred to had been associated with war since the Napoleonic Wars when a writer of that time first noted how the poppies grew over the graves of soldiers. Inspired by "In Flanders Fields", American professor Moina Michael resolved at the war's conclusion in 1918 to wear a red poppy year-round to honor the soldiers who died in the war.

The practice quickly spread throughout the British Empire. The wearing of poppies in the days leading up to Remembrance Day remains popular in many areas of the Commonwealth of Nations, particularly Great Britain, Canada, and South Africa, and in the days leading up to ANZAC Day in Australia and New Zealand.

I, personally, remember buying paper versions of these symbolic poppies many years ago in elementary school when they were sold for only 10 cents each and the proceeds were donated to Veteran’s charities.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies grow,
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

Honoring our Veterans on Veteran's Day

Today is Veteran's Day here in the United States and as a Girl Scout all those many years ago, I remember at the end of every scout meeting we all stood in a circle along with our women Scout Leaders holding hands while singing the words to, "Taps."

I recall the words to this day as I remember our many brave and honored Veterans. My hubby served in the Air Force and so have many of our other members of our family in one branch or other. I would feel terribly amiss if I did not honor them all in some way today.

My thoughts and prayers go out to them and their families on this most important day of "Thank you's!" The following renditional lyrics of the song "Taps" are the ones in which we were taught when I was a Girl Scout.

"Day is done,
 Gone the Sun,
 From the North,
 From the East,
 From the South,
 From the West,
 Safely rest,
 All is nigh."
