Slightly Demented R&B: Yeasayer - "Henrietta" (Fan Club CD-R & June Tour)

If you ask me, Yeasayer really "hit it outta the park" with their last release, Odd Blood (2010)! The Brooklyn Psych-Rockers have been earnestly chipping away @ their follow-up third album, which singer-keyboardist Chris Keating describes as a mix between "an Aaliyah album if you played it backwards and slowed it down" and David Bowie 's [1979] Art Rock album, Lodger . Yeasayer 's new album is expected to materialize and be released by late spring or early summer of 2012; Back in October 2011 , the band had already compiled 22+ songs and were thinking about recording to separate LP's: a real album of 3-4 minute Pop songs and an [Internet] soundtrack . Fast-forward to May 2012... Yeasayer released the first taste of their untitled album just yesterday, "Henrietta." We All Want Someone to Shout For notes that the band recently shipped out CD singles of the track to members of their fan club and now, it has appeared online. "Henri...

Relax, Don't Do It: Das Racist & Patrick Wimberly Make Late Night Debut on Conan (Behind The Scenes of "Michael Jackson" & RELAX)

"About a year and half ago, [Heems] sent me a bunch of Bollywood tracks he wanted to sample. I'd take the tracks and chop them up on my MPC and then just let them fuck around until we'd found something we liked... "Michael Jackson" was originally an entirely different song. Right after we made the beat, the guys rapped on it and then it just sat in our vault for about 8 months. The next time we listened to it, we decided to trash all the verses and put the newly-written ["Mike"] hook on it. Then they wrote the final verses. We were working on that track off and on for almost an entire year. I probably did about 25 mixes before I got to the version that's on the record!" - Patrick Wimberly The creative forces over at "Conan" somehow managed to lock in an appearance from Brooklyn's favourite Hipster Indie Hip-Hop darlings, Das Racist . Last night marked the debut Late Night television appearance from Heems , Kool A.D....

Welcome Back, Conan: Reggie Watts Show Tune ("The Boys Are Back In Town")

Yes, last night was in fact, the pinnacle of Halloween Weekend(s) ; In honor of the closing events séance, "Conan" 's newest episode was flavored with a moderate amount of extra [special] tricks and treats. Following an approximately 55-minute dosage of the regular hi-jinx, Jimmy Fallon -assisted laughs, and slightly awkward moments... Reggie Watts & House Band proceeded to take the Beacon Theater main stage. The musical comedian took the stage, decked out in his signature 'fro and a Prince -esque blood red velvet suit jacket/puffy shirt. In an earnest, heart-felt effort to give long-time friend Conan a proper "Welcome Home Celebration," Reggie Watts performed a re-arranged version of Thin Lizzy's "The Boys Are Back In Town" (1976). Honoring Conan 's week-long stay @ Beacon Theater -- his first lengthy New York holiday since roughly 2009 -- Watts performed a truly unique version of the band's staple hit: Shifting back and ...
