All-around Breakdown: Crescent Ridge's Derek Schepici, Kevin Merriam & Mike Assatly Dissect Their Debut Full-length Garden of Fools (Forever Never Ends Records)

Cresent Ridge with Mike Assatly (SOURCE: Mike Assatly) Crescent Ridge is a Stoughton, Massachusetts-based band whose music has been described as Alternative, Rock, Pop Rock, Slacker Rock, Soft Grunge, and Bubblegrunge. However, despite goofy genre labels and fabricated names, Crescent Ridge's musical output has drawn real-life comparisons to the likes of Dinosaur Jr., Foo Fighters, The Lemonheads, Pixies, Quicksand, and The Smashing Pumpkins; so, I guess we can kinda see how someone came up with the sub-genre label of "Bubblegrunge." Crescent Ridge's current line-up consists of guitarist and vocalist Derek Schepici, guitarist Aaron "Ron" Devoe, bassist and vocalist Chris Gill, drummer Kevin Merriam, and part-time guitarist Mike Assatly. Collectively, Crescent Ridge's members have spent time playing with slightly more Punk/Hardcore bands, such as BearTrap, Spirits, Clueless, Energy, and Terminal Crisis, and even our Emo/Indie-leaning favorites Little L...

Touché Amoré Release Cover of The Strokes' "Hard to Explain" In Honor of Is This It?'s 20th Anniversary (Bandcamp Friday Exclusive)

Touché Amoré & The Strokes (SOURCES: Epitaph Records / @thestrokes) It's the return of Bandcamp Fridays! While we really don't have the time to go through the endless amounts of emails we've received to give you some recommendations this fine day... we will say this: go and support your favorite artists, big or small. Today, Bandcamp is waiving their fees for 24 hours and providing the artists with 100% of their sales raised. We will, however, provide a recommendation released by one of our favorite bands, Touché Amoré. The Los Angeles-based Post-hardcore band led by Jeremy Bolm and featuring lead guitarist Clayton Stevens, rhythm guitarist Nick Steinhardt, bassist Tyler Kirby, and drummer Elliot Babin have shared something special in honor of today's Bandcamp Friday festivities. "To celebrate the 20 year anniversary of Is This It? by The Strokes, we did a cover of "Hard to Explain," which will be available tomorrow exclusively for Bandcamp Frid...

Richie Records Presents: SPACIN' - "Deep Thuds EP" (Illadelph Half-life?)

Yeah, I basically drafted up a few terms and then coined one, "Neo-Classical Psych Rock," to help better describe SPACIN' s particularly unique, noisy sound. It's members all hailing from Philly , the band's sound seems like a by-product of Hardcore Punk and Noise/Garage Rock . SPACIN' is fronted by Jason Killinger and it's kinda a side project of his old band, Birds of Maya ; In the studio, he's joined by Paul Sukeena , Sean Hamilton , and his wife Eva on guitar/bass/drums (respectively) on their righteous Richie Records debut, Deep Thuds EP... I think it'd be safe to assume that SPACIN' are influenced by guys like Iggy & The Stooges , Velvet Underground, Black Sabbath , Ty Segall, and Pixies . While they've only unleashed roughly 8-10 tracks, SPACIN' really managed to effectively display a colorful, wide variety of styles on Deep Thuds : Psychedelic Rock, Noise Rock , riff-heavy Rock "N" Roll, Power Pop , Post-...

Odd Future 8-Track Sessions: BADBADNOTGOOD & Tyler, The Creator - "Orange Juice" (2008-12)

For their latest "viral" cover selection, the boys of BADBADNOTGOOD decided to flip one of Odd Future 's most seasoned tracks, "Orange Juice." The now Jazz -tinged number originally appeared on Wolf Gang 's premier mixtape, The Odd Future Tape (2008). It should be noted that BBNG initially emerged under the guise, "The Odd Trio" and have since been closely linked to the righteous Hip-Hop crew. A wide array of Jazz -stepped OF covers have been included on their numerous releases, as well as a few previously-released "viral" videos of similar nature along with Tyler, The Creator himself. But wait just a minute there, partner... both BADBADNOTGOOD and Odd Future are currently working on a wide assortment of various projects - specifically "BBNG 2" and The Odd Future Tape, Vol. 2 (respectively). Eager fans can also expect to see/hear Tyler 's second third album "WOLF," Frank Ocean 's long-awaited Def ...

BADBADNOTGOOD Original Composition: "Rotten Decay" (Jazz Meets Hip-Hop 45)

Matt Tavares, Chester Hansen , and Alex Sowinski are 3 no-holds-barred rhythmic Jazzcats more commonly know as "BADBADNOTGOOD." Undoubtedly knowledgeable beyond their [lack of] years, studio footage of the young Canadian musicians covering a few Odd Future standards soon emerged (Summer 2011). Hot off the press, they were originally known as "The Odd Trio" and exclusively re-tooled Tyler, The Creator & Odd Future -related tracks; BADBADNOTGOOD 's simplistic blend of keys/guitar-bass-drums works surprisingly well when re-interpreting Tyler's often airy, Jazz -esque compositions. If Tyler, The Creator has any sense whatsoever, he'll employ the BBNG boys to lay down some sophisticated riffs for his upcoming "progressive" album, Wolf (2012). BADBADNOTGOOD 's latest release is the aptly-titled BBNGSINGLE - The first sampling from BBNG2 (mixtape) . To the best of my knowledge, "Rotten Decay" is the group's premier orig...
