Could it be....Gremlins?

A couple months ago I found this sweet simple 1984 3 POA LJN Gizmo at the flea market. A couple weeks ago I found the purple Tootsietoy Gremlin. Not sure of the date on the Tootsietoy, but it has to be mid to late seventies.

The AMC Gremlin is a car you either hate or hate. Actually, one of my 'holy grails' is a Gremlin with a 360 V-8. Because you know that S.O.B. hauls ass. I once drove a friend's AMX and damn near killed the both of us swo I can attenst to the power-to-weight ratio of these bad-boys.

Anyways, I don't collect a lot of toy cars, but my Dad does, so when I found this purple Tootsietoy Gremlin at the flea market for fifty cents I couldn't say 'no.' From the model itself to the color to that seventies sticker, this is a product of it's time and a toy that just won't get made today.

I love this thing so much I'm half tempted to keep it for myself. But seeing as how when my dad passes away I'm set to inherit the bulk of his toy car collection, well I suppose it can hang out at his house for now.

Gremlins :: Countdown to Halloween 2013

I didn't see Gremlins when it first hit theatres. In fact, I only first saw it a couple years ago. My cousin had a couple of the Gizmo and Stripe pvc figurines back then, but I didn't own any Gremlin merchandise until I found this original Gizmo plush at the Goodwill a couple months back. He's pretty cute and Toyriffic's Intern enjoys hugging him and lugging him around the house. But to be honest, Gizmo never did anything for me. I've always felt the same way about E.T. While everyone else was swooning about how cute and sweet he was, I just thought he was a dumb looking lump.

I did always think the Gremlins-post-midnight-snack-mode looked pretty cool. And I did see Gremlins 2 in the theatre when it was released and thought it was ridiculous and fun. I remember having one pvc figure of Stripe at that time but don't recall having ever owned anything else 'Gremlin'.

But when Toys R Us released their exclusive electric Gremlin...piece of plastic...from Gremlins 2 I thought it was pretty clever and cool and even considered picking it up, but couldn't imagine spending money on what essentially amounted to a Gremlin shaped piece of plastic.

Fortunately I recently won a contest over at Pop Pop It's Trash Culture, and included in the prize was none other than electrical Gremlin!

I enjoy the unique nature of this thing. I also enjoy not having paid anything for it!

Happy Halloween eve!

Tempting :: Lightning Gremlin

I don't collect Gremlins in any capacity. I have only seen the original movie maybe twice, and the sequel only once in the theatre.

Yet there is something about this new electric Gremlin...toy...that appeals to me.

This thing is hanging out at Toys R Us now and is part of Neca's current Gremlins toyline. Representing a Gremlin in Gremlins 2: The New Batch that becomes electrical (don't remember how or why, as stated above it's been a while since I saw the movie!) I imagine this...figure...really only appeals to the most die-hard fans of this toyline or Gremlins in general.

And for some reason...me.

Anyways, I can avoid the temptation at the asking price of around 12 bucks, but if this thing ever goes on clearance it may be too much to resist.
