In anticipation of my departure from beautiful Cebu City, I have filled my time with shopping.. for anything baking related. I have invented my own version of an ice cream roll and a recipe for Brazo de Mercedes, the frozen kind. Today I have a pizza making class which I am excited about. Seriously, just the process of learning new skills gives me the kind of satisfaction I haven't gotten anywhere else.. Ive always loved getting my hands dirty and baking certainly does that in the ever so sweetest way possible. I hit the supermarkets yesterday and filled my baskets full of rainbow and heart shaped sprinkles, food coloring and baking powder and today I'm going back to buy more chocolate. I'm so lucky to have Nana's full support, and have promised to make her proud. By now, her house is full of desserts from my many experiments, and I just have to find people to consume everything. That shouldn't be too hard to do.

There is nothing more annoying during Christmas than missing your family and then having people trying to shove "being merry" down your throat. And why do people have to be so aggressive with their ways of spreading joy.. I wasn't aware of my apparent obligation to put on a fake smile and join in on the carolling.

I will spare you the details, but I assure you I will survive the misery with my trusted companions, Xanax and Chocolate. Aside from that, I have a pretty amazing non-hectic island family, who are perfectly satisfied with a beer and a good conversation. Mellow, mellow.

I thought Christmas was going to be amazing this year, but a swift change of plans left me out in the rain and absolutely miserable. I'm dreading the 24th and 25th, have secret plans of staying in bed until it is all over and otherwise knocking anyone out who tells me "Merry Christmas" to my face. Xmas is depressing without my family.

In an effort to cheer myself up, I made a collage of the last few things that were dumped in my inspiration folder. Of course now that I know I cant have everything on it, my attempt seems to be backfiring pathetically. Cant win them all!

Also, if any of you are going to be in Boracay for the holidays, and are looking for a great gift for yourself or your loved ones, I highly recommend paying a visit to Mandala Spa for an intense relaxation experience which will leave you rejuvenated and rested.
