Pumpkin Rot and Mr. Jones

I just wanted to congratulate one of my favorite haunters and designers, PumpkinRot, on his opportunity to get to work with the crew of Mr. Jones. I happened to take a look on his blog today and realized there was a great link that showed all of his posts about his journey so far. Such amazing and impressive stuff, so proud!

"We used tracking boards and chat rooms, and we kept hearing the same name, Pumpkinrot."

Tribe Order

My brother, Bijan Sharifi just came out with his new album Tribe Order as part of his side project Ulcantegu, now available on iTunes. Half of the the album's proceeds go to charity to help survivors of natural disasters. The album cover was designed by my best friend, and amazing artist, Tesily Diehl and even features a photograph she took of me. So cool to know I am surrounded by a best friend and brother who are so talented and always continue to inspire me. Great work guys! Also the track "Filthy Razcals" will be featured in my upcoming short film, pretty neat way to get a sneak peek.

The Characters

While designing the characters for Vintage Seance, I collected many photos and images and created collages to fully visualize them. Out of the many photos in my collages, these were the best of each that really said it all.

The Widow

The Gypsy

The Stranger

The Lady

The Gentleman

I have been dying to pay a visit at the Haunted Mansion lately. Perhaps I will wait until October...

Billy: Some Early Sketches

Looking through a few old notes, I found some of my early sketches of Billy Butcherson's costume. I usually find myself coming up with random sketches of what I consider good ideas for Halloween costumes, Billy was certainly one of them. I will try to post some more random sketches of Halloween costumes from my notebooks, promise.

Viscount I.M. Laurie's Latest

As a filmmaker, I am very influenced by costume and set design and always find myself making collages or searching for photos and illustrations that inspire me. I often write blog posts about my findings or about other artists whose work stands out to me, like one of my favorite artists, I.M. Lowry. When I saw his most recent piece of artwork I immediately asked if I could feature it here.

I.M. Lowry often creates entire stories that go along with his beautiful illustrations, much like this one. His work consists of a detailed and structured point of view which can be seen in the buildings, clothing, and decor in his artwork (often inspired by Victorian age illustration). All aspects of his art, whether he is drawing a scene from the 18th century, iconic figures in history or mythology, or amazingly creative mechanical devices, I.M. Lowry produces his artwork in intricate and architectural ways. An artist with great talent, great style, and a great imagination- I.M. Lowry is definitely one of the best!

Danny Do More

Daniel Moser used to be a student of my aunt's at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. After majoring in Theatre Production and Design, Danny created a website to display his creative designs, photographs, costumes, videos, and news about his work in the theatre. I absolutely love how fun the website is and his creative taste. Here are a few images from his site.

Trick 'r Treat...

Lately everyone is talking about the release of "Trick 'r Treat". The film has literally been pushed back for years and in its release went straight to DVD. All the reviews I have read claim that it's so good and therefore it's surprising it didn't make it into the cinema. They  could very well be right, for I have yet to see the film myself. From the trailers I have seen it looks like it has very interesting art direction, cinematography, and production design. When a film incorporates a beautiful, spooky, and traditional Halloween theme into these filmmaking elements, I'm going to have to see it!
