Belgium is one of the countries in the world with the largest number of musicians but also Jazz lovers in proportion to its population.

By Belgian Jazz, we mean, any musician who has his residence in Belgium and who dedicates his artistic practice to this universal music, where the only rule, regardless of the rhythm, the instrumentation, etc., is to leave room for interaction through improvisation.

BRDCST - An annual indoor festival, where musical boundaries are left behind
With no fewer than 45 acts on its programme, the 8th edition of BRDCST promises to be an absolute musical blast. From Friday 4 to Sunday 6 April 2025, BRDCST will welcome you to AB, beursschouwburg, the Church of Notre Dame aux Riches Claires, and Palace. Three guest curators will put their own spin on each unique night.
3 BRDCST curators reveal their programmes
Anna von Hausswolff will present three artists close to her heart on the opening night. AvH’s musical talent has its roots in her childhood thanks to her father CM von Hausswolff. Swedish musician/composer Filip Leyman is a long-time AvH collaborator who appears on almost all her releases as producer, synth wizard or percussionist. A surprise addition is the Senegalese kora/percussion duo Lansana Sane x Malick Diebate who are resident in AvH’s birth city of Gothenburg.
The BRDCST weekend’s most explosive line-up is the brainchild of Zambian-Canadian rapper Backxwash. In her own words: “I’m incredibly excited about the lineup curated for BRDCST. The selection is challenging, disruptive, at times chaotic - but absolutely unforgettable. From the neoclassical hauntings of Morgan-Paige, who happens to be one of my favourite musicians and performers right now, to the digital hardcore brilliance of LustSickPuppy, one of my favourite acts of this generation. Just add to that the energetic chaos of Violent Magic Orchestra and the visionary artistry of Blackhaine!”
Saxophonist Colin Stetson is a familiar face at AB after six visits, but this is his first stint as curator. Interestingly, aside from his own set, Stetson will also appear as a guest or full-fledged musician on the other sets. The British Keeley Forsyth will demonstrate her soul-rending voice. 10¹⁷ is a brand-new project from Stetson, Norwegian guitarist Stian Westerhus and drummer/percussionist Erland Dahlen.
BRDCST BY NGHT in beursschouwburg
BRDCST recently embraced the night under the moniker BRDCST BY NIGHT. This year, we’re letting our colleagues at beursschouwburg take care of the entertainment for two consecutive nights of partying: On Friday 4 April, New York-based trio Kassie Krut will perform, followed by the producer El Kontessa from Cairo. On Saturday 5 April, Crop Top Core’s tribute to DJ Rashad will be the evening’s highlight. Also taking their place behind the turntables in tribute to DJ Rashad will be iced lattina from Brussels, and The Hague’s Guillermo Schuurman a.k.a. De Schuurman.
BRDCST in the Church of Notre Dame aux Riches Claires
For the second year in a row, BRDCST will take over the Church of Notre Dame aux Riches Claires. Lukas De Clerck, formerly known as Bloedneus & de Snuitkever, will kick things off. Fans of Hildur Guðnadóttir or Jóhann Jóhannsson will no doubt enjoy the work of Iranian composer/pianist Ava Rasti. She operates in the no man’s land between ambient, modern classical and drone. Organ builder Patrick Collon’s classical organ will this year be played by Irish experimental artist Áine O’Dwyer.
The next day, the Belgians take over the show. Kabas will celebrate its tenth anniversary with a brand-new album bathed in transcendental minimalistic improvisation. Abel Ghekiere will once again demonstrate the art of serene beauty with his latest album In de verte, dit uitzicht. Rounding things off is none other than Milan W., whose Leave Another Day was the pre-eminent Belgian album of 2024.
Sunday will highlight two exceptional Polish artists. Martyna Basta’s label Stroom introduced her as “Hints of Caroline Polachek and Eartheater’s gothy pop surround the experimental core reminiscent of HTRK and Arca.” Guitarist Raphael Rogiński has his album Plays John Coltrane to thank for his newfound cult following. The closing day’s most remarkable project will without a doubt be the performance of Hockets for Two Voices by the LA-based composer Meara O’Reilly. The evening is brought to a close in style with the Egyptian/Belgian The Handover.
BRDCST in Palace
BRDCST honours the classics! That’s why previous editions featured the influential krautrock legend CAN, and this year footwork pioneer DJ Rashad and jazz legend John Coltrane will be in the spotlight. DJ Rashad’s influence is unsurpassed. His heritage will be borne by Crop Top Core, which consists of members of SCHNTZL, Vieze Meisje, Brorlab and Fievel is Glacque. Guitarist Raphael Rogiński will present an esoteric tribute to John Coltrane.
BRDCST honours DJ Rashad, John Coltrane and the jazz label International Anthem
The most impressive jazz label in recent years is, without a shadow of the doubt, the Chicago-based International Anthem. BRDCST will celebrate this label with a mini-exhibition of their artwork and a handful of artists who epitomise the label’s soul. Cornet player Ben LaMar Gay released three albums under his own name via IA and was also present on Makaya McCraven’s Highly Rare and Jaimie Branch’s Fly or Die. SML is IA’s newest flagship, made up of key figures from the thriving LA jazz/improv/indie scene. Prominent SML member Jeremiah Chiu has a healthy obsession with (analogue and digital) synthesisers, and SML’s other members – percussionist Booker Stardrum and guitarist Gregory Uhlmann – will play an improv set that evening.

Amazônia, Sebastião Salgado
The Amazônia exhibition features over 200 large-format photographs by Franco-Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado, revealing the incredible richness of the Amazon rainforest and the people who inhabit it.
Amazônia takes place in Tour & Taxis in Brussels, and offers a glimpse into a world both rich and fragile, accompanied by a soundtrack specially created by Jean-Michel Jarre.
The Amazônia exhibition presents 200 photographs revealing the incredible richness of the Amazon rainforest and the people who inhabit it.
For seven years, Sebastião Salgado travelled through the Brazilian Amazon, in small boats or in the air. He photographed the forest, the rivers, the mountains and the people who live there. In this profound universe, the immense power of nature is felt like in few other places on the planet. The photographer's eye has been imprinted with striking images. Most of these are shown to the public for the first time in the Amazônia exhibition.
The exhibition also includes testimonials from local communities, met in the villages where the photographer spent several weeks. This exhibition in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest is an invitation to see, hear and think about the future of biodiversity and the place of humans in the living world.
A WORLD SYMPHONY EXHIBITION
In addition to the fragility of this ecosystem, the exhibition also highlights the richness of the Amazonian sound universe. The impressive photographs are displayed with an original soundtrack by Jean-Michel Jarre, created from sounds of the forest. The rustle of trees and the noises of animals. Birdsong and the crash of water rushing down from the mountains... Collected in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, they create a soundscape adapted to the tour.
A PRICELESS HERITAGE
The exhibition showcases over 200 photographs, accompanied by huge projections, in keeping with this extraordinary natural environment. Videos also allow us to listen to the people who live in the forest, and to grasp the richness of their culture.
The Amazônia exhibition emphasizes the fragility of this ecosystem. It also shows that, in the protected areas inhabited by the indigenous communities, who are its ancestral guardians, the forest has suffered almost no damage.
Through the power of these images, Sebastião and Lélia Salgado hope to stimulate thought and action in favor of the preservation of this priceless human heritage.

Since the 1950s, skateboarding has developed from a passing children’s hobby into one of the most popular, accessible, and spectacular sports in the world. This new touring exhibition from the Design Museum in London shows how skateboard design has evolved in tandem with performance. Within the elegantly simple parameters of its key components – deck, trucks and wheels – skaters have repeatedly re-designed the skateboard to suit their performance style and surroundings.

Centrale presents the exhibition Mitja Tušek & Bertille Bak (10.04 > 24.08.2025)
Mitja Tušek's paintings and series are informed by references to the history of art and European culture, from the Middle Ages to Ensor and the Rorschach tests, whose forms recall the multitude of possible representations and perceptions of an image. Mitja Tušek's paintings play with the codes of figuration and abstraction: figurative paintings touch on abstraction, while those that appear abstract often feature portraits or landscapes. The materials he uses - wax, lead, interference pigment - contribute through their power of absorption or reflection to an ambiguous perception of the image; we guess at it more than we see it, and yet we retain an almost palpable presence. Several series of large-format canvases allow us to embrace the diversity of forms that Tušek's painting takes. It shifts the gaze, questioning the image and its double, the medium and its materiality, starting with the smallest particle of image, almost the pixel, which is zoomed in and enlarged, gaining in density with the successive layers applied by the painter over the years.
For this exhibition at Centrale, Mitja Tušek has invited the artist Bertille Bak. As a video and visual artist, Bertille Bak takes a committed look at the world, focusing on personal and collective narratives, questioning both the day-to-day reality of the communities she encounters and the representations we make of them. Through her installations and videos, “Bak doesn’t seek to create an illusion of realism but attempts to reveal what goes on behind the scenes in the construction of any image and to warn the public, in a tender but madcap way, that art is only make-believe.” (Exhibition Abus de Souffle, 2024, Jeu de Paume, Paris).

Timeless gazes : from Pharaohs to the present day
The Boghossian Foundation and the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art jointly present an exhibition celebrating ancient Egypt and contemporary art in relation to the African continent.
For the first time in Belgium, approximately 130 works from the prestigious collection assembled by Jean Claude Gandur is exhibited in the unique setting of the Villa Empain.
Organised around eight successive themes, the exhibition explores the depiction of the gaze and one’s perception of their environment. On the one hand, it presents breathtaking examples of daily life and funerary art, including figurines, amulets, and sarcophagus masks. On the other hand, it features iconic characters from the Pharaonic period, such as Ramses II, illustrated by a bust in red granite, dating from the second half of the second millennium BC.
The itinerary showcases recent works by living artists who are closely connected to the rich diversity of the African continent.
More than 40 paintings, photographs, and sculptures from the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art’s collection of African Contemporary Art and of the Diaspora foster a lively and engaging dialogue on topics that already mattered at the time of the Pharaohs.
Committed to building bridges between peoples and enriching the collective memory, the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art shares the fundamental goal of the Boghossian Foundation, which seeks to foster dialogue between Eastern and Western cultures. With this in mind, the invitation to invest the Villa Empain, where past and present meet, gains particular significance.

Trouble, Performance Festival
For its thirteenth edition, the Trouble festival is expanding its partnerships across the city. Since its inception in 2005 at Les Halles de Schaerbeek, the world of performance art has evolved significantly.
Once a niche art form, performance is now deeply rooted in the cultural landscape of Brussels. This year’s festival aims to broaden the understanding of performance art by moving beyond Western aesthetics and highlighting diverse perspectives from artists in sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean and Mexico. The festival’s central theme revolves around invocations, evocations, magical or shamanic rituals, political actions in public spaces, and dialogues with the unseen. Performance as clairvoyance?

Citroën DS - An icon turns 70
The word "icon" is often overused. However, if there is one car that truly deserves this title, it is the Citroën DS. The impact left by the "Déesse" when it was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1955 has rarely been matched, let alone surpassed.
From April 25 to June 29, "the Citroën bomb," as the DS was called at its launch, will once again be in the spotlight at Autoworld.
The word "icon" is often misused. However, if there is one car that truly deserves to be called "iconic," it is the Citroën DS. The impact left by the "Déesse" (French for godess) when it was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1955 has rarely been matched, let alone surpassed.
From April 25 to June 29, "la bombe Citroën," as the DS was called at its launch, will once again make an impact at Autoworld.
Autoworld presents a unique collection in "Citroën DS – An Icon Turns 70" showcasing almost every version and variant. From the first ID19 to the ID19 Pallas, which embodied pure luxury, to the DS23 Pallas, the last DS to roll off the production line in 1975.
As the icing on the cake, starting May 26, the Citroën DS "Ballons" will join the exhibition. This iconic model was designed in 1959 by Claude Puech, then director of advertising at Citroën, and was first presented at the Paris Motor Show.
The DS Balloons features a DS 19 in the orange shade "Ecaille Blonde," resting on four enormous balloons instead of wheels. These symbolize the spheres of the famous hydropneumatic suspension, creating the illusion that the car is floating.
Photos of this visionary idea spread around the world at the time, reinforcing the DS's status as an avant-garde and timeless work of art.
Having become a standalone brand, DS Automobiles will present the all-new DS N°8, which will also be exhibited in the museum. This 100% electric SUV builds on the reputation of the original DS.
The DS N°8 is inspired by the DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE concept. It offers impeccable quality, long range, and total comfort, making it the most serene electric car. The DS N°8 boasts a WLTP range of 750 km and over 500 km on the highway, thanks to an excellent drag coefficient (Cx) of 0.24.
On Sunday, May 4, from 10 AM to 2 PM, Autoworld organises a "Citroën-DS & Coffee" Event.
Owners of Citroën classics or any DS model (including current models) are invited— upon pre-registration via the Autoworld website—to join this unique birthday celebration on the Esplanade in front of the museum, honoring the DS.
Visitors are also warmly welcome to admire the stunning Citroëns and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere surrounding this legendary French car.
This exhibition is organized by Autoworld with the support of DS Automobiles and the Amicale of Belgian Citroën Clubs (ABCC).
