Pacific Warships

I mentioned that I've been exploring a new "speed painting" method, here are a few photos.  It's very similar to my past method but I've toned down some steps to make the process quicker:  spray can instead of airbrush, quick strategic highlights instead of layered highlights, etc.

Let me know what you think.

More photos of past painting :)

And...  here are some more.  Pacific USN early war and late war.

Holiday Painting - 1/6000 Figurehead ships

It's been a long time since I've posted anything...  I've just been too busy.  However, I did get a chance to paint up some IJN and USN Naval Forces for my Solomons campaign.  My son and I had a great slugging match (using Axis and Allies Miniatures rules) with the cruisers involved in the Battle of Savo Island.  This time around, the USN had a pretty healthy advantage; the hard hitting USN Cruisers punished my IJN forces and all of my long lance torpedoes missed!  doh!

With not much "free time" I'm enjoying the quick painting times on 1/6000 figurehead ships :)

Happy New Years everyone!

Guadalcanal Gaming Mat and 1/2400 Ships

It's been quite awhile since I've posted anything...  I have been productive, but I've been lazy when it comes to the blog :(

Here's what I've been doing:  Prototyping a new "Iron Bottom Sound" Gaming Mat for my 1/6000 Navies (which are slowly growing).  I created it with and without hexes...  Let me know what you think.  I'm considering some other potentials too:  Midway, Samar, New Georgia (and surrounding Islands), etc.  The Mats are 60 inches x 40 inches.

And...  I also spent some time painting several GHQ 1/2400 Ships for a good friend.  I don't have my light box working so I can't share my usual sharp photos.

And several Royal Navy Capital Ships:

I'm not much for words today but hopefully the photos are enjoyable :)

Thanks for stopping in!

Some USN and IJN Hardware

Just sharing a couple of photos of some recently completed USN and IJN Ships.  All are 1/2400 GHQ.  Lemme know what you think.

World War II Cruisers and Destroyers

Wow!  It's been over a month since my last post...  I am ashamed.

I don't have much to expound upon or share, but I do have a few photos that I snapped of a recent set of ships that I painted:  IJN CA's and DD's as well as some USN CA's and DD's (click for larger photos).  They turned out very vivid...  a pretty nice force!

Here's a shot of my painting process before and after the wash.

I hope everyone is having a nice summer :)

USN Carriers in 1/2400 - Lex, Yorktown, Big E, and Hornet

It's always nice to have a day off of work, and today is no exception (Happy President's Day!).  I recently finished a set of USN Carriers and would like to share some photos.  These were all painted with Vallejo paints applied with an airbrush and the flight decks are custom decals that I produced.

Oh, I've also included an Atlanta Class light cruiser...  what a cool ship, just bristling with guns!

Pretty impressive arsenal of power!  A compliment of ~350 Aircraft.

Lady Lex - CV-2 Lexington

CV-5 Yorktown

Big E - CV-6 Enterprise

CV-8 Hornet

CL-51 Atlanta (minus the Camo)

The usual "Coin and Pin" photo for scale...

And my "other" usual photo...  fake photo pretending to be real :)

Thanks for looking, please let me know what you think.

New Years painting - Naval Miniatures

Hi all, it's been awhile since I've posted photos of my painting so I'd like to share a few items that I recently finished.  Most of these items were painted for GHQ to include in their catalog.  I'm still enjoying 1/2400 painting and I have especially been excited with how well my carrier decks have turned out.  Let me know what you think.  Thanks for looking!

F4U Corsair - There's not much contrast with the blue, so here's a shot of the underside to those the excellent GHQ detail.

AV-3 Langley - what a cool ship!!!

AV-3 Langley - Another excellent casting from GHQ

Aichi Val - trust me, the color is light grey...  it just looks light against the dark ocean background.

I'm not sure what my "next up" project is, but I'd like to get back to my never-ending Eastern Front projects.  Now that GHQ has released the sIG 33B Self Propelled gun, I have a little more motivation to paint my Stalingrad factories :)  I'd also like to resume working on carrier deck decals.  Stay tuned!

GHQ 1/2400 Akagi and Lexington

Hi All!  I just wanted to post a few pictures of some recently completed 1/2400 miniatures:  the IJN Akagi and the USS Lexington (CV-2).  Overall, I enjoyed painting these...  although the Akagi deck markings were a major PITA.  I sure wish there was a company that produced ready-made deck decals (especially white stripes!).  I ended up creating my own decals on my inkjet printer and they turned out ok...  it just took a lot of trial and error.

These are currently for sale on eBay:  http://www.ebay.com/sch/wwiicentral/m.html

At any rate, here are the photos:
