So, little Havoc got to go out in the field today.  Perhaps we were a bit naive, thinking he would be fine out there.  I wasn't too sure, but, I'm one of *those* owners, so, I was letting the experienced folks make the call.

One 10 month old baby.... 4 geldings.... one field....  They ran around a couple times, Havoc leading, he can out run them.  Then it looked good, he was by himself, they were up in the one corner, no one was freaking out, big field....  Until one of the boys came down to say hi... and Havoc ran, unfortunately, towards the other horses.  Once he was cornered, the quarter horse came at him, teeth bared.  He tried to get away and fell right through the fence (it's one of those great plastic wire ones that gives, although there was a hot wire too). Got himself up and ran back to the paddock he's been in, he's a smart boy.  So, we walked and grazed and walked and grazed ... he calmed quite quickly, he's of that sort of disposition.  Although he did tell his neighbour in the paddock about his trials.

He's fine.  My vet where he came from said very bad words about this entire situation.  So now... what?  I don't want him to go out there, I don't like that the one horse waited until he was cornered.  I know he's going to get beat on now and again in his life, but that was dirty.  Now I have to see if we have an alternative at that facility, or if I have to move him.  Luckily, I have a safety net for him, a place he can go immediately and stay until we find him a permanent solution.  I don't want to have to do any of this right now, especially given the EHV situation, but his safety place can kick in and we have NO worries about that facility (private acreage).

I don't want to be a big sissy, but I think we can find a better solution than the current one.  He's going to be the death of me!

Well, little guy is going to change facilities.  There are no other options at that place, and the nail in the coffin was that the dominant in that field who put him through the fence, is going to get hind shoes.  I don't put my mature kids out with horses with hind shoes.

So now, we look for a new place.  He's such a sweet thing, I've been taking him grazing and he's so well behaved.  And, as sometimes happens in the horse world, I wandered into the right place at the right time.  I walked into the tack shop, saw someone I haven't seen in literally years.  Well, she knows a great place for him, gave me the number, and told me to mention her.  So, I've left a message, we'll keep our fingers crossed.

It's such a small world, and you never know when you'll run into someone.  Bloody good reason to be nice to everyone (if you need one)!

At one time of my life I had to change stables a few times.  With each pasture I would lead my horse around the fence line, pointing out corners and any odd places in the fence.  While not quite as good as intro over the fence for a few weeks none of my horses got trapped and beaten up, they knew where the traps were!  They also respected the fence more.
