The Hateful Eight: Quentin Tarantino Takes On The Prairie, Stage Coaches, And The Old West...

QT is probably one of my favorite living directors, and his last few efforts (Inglorious Bastards and Django) have done nothing but make those sentiments stronger. In a world where directors are pumping out products, directing TV pilots, and executive producing pretty much everything in the world... Tarantino does a great job of doing what he does best: developing a unique concept, writing a script filled with killer dialouge and putting together one hell of a visual picture. Quentin got a bit mad when a script for his Wagon Train old west adventure picture The Hateful Eight got leaked on line and he abandoned the picture. He said he wasn't going to make it... but just six months or so later the project has gotten new life and it seems like QT is all set for a early 2015 shoot with a Christmas 2015 release (just in time for Oscar consideration BTW). The synopsis is insane, and the first poster looks fabulous. And this cast.. are you kidding me? Bruce Dern, Walter Goggins, Sam Jackson, Mike Madsen, Tim Roth and Kurt Russell... wow. As usual, no real big name women named so far. Just Amber Tambelyn. But knowing QT he will get a career making performance out of her before he makes her a star like he did Uma, Diane Kruger and Kerri Washington before. Check out the official synopsis and full poster after the jump....

The Trailer For 'Dear White People' Is Hysterical... And Tells Us The Real Meaning Of Gremlins!!!

Dear White People is a movie that is setting the post Sundance world on fire for its humor and poignant look at race relations in the year 2014. It is really funny, and I for one can't wait to see it. It has been making the rounds on the limited release circuit, and now it will get its proper due in a full Indy theater release in October. The trailer shows a lot of potential in writer/director Justin Simien, and I especially like his bit on the "real" meaning of Gremlins (one of my favorite movies, and I never looked at it like that). It has an impressive cast, including Tyler James Williams (Everybody Loves Chris), Dennis Haysbert (24), and Tessa Thompson (Veronica Mars). Check out the full trailer and poster after the jump....

So Guardians of the Galaxy is hurtling towards touch down (it opens on August 1st) and anticipation is building. But with all the news about directors leaving (Edgar Wright/Ant Man) and casting news (Vincent D'Nofrio as Kingpin in the Daredevil Netflix show) they can use some good news to take peoples mind of shit. So right on schedule we get a batch of one sheets featuring the whole team of GOTG... and of course Rocket & Groot are on the same one!!! We get Drax, Gamora, Star-Lord, and Groot/Rocket... and my lord do they look awesome! You can see all four of the posters as well as the team lobby poster after the jump...

Andy Fairhurst Wants To Show You A Galaxy Far, Far Away... And Feature The Best Characters Of Each Film Of The Trilogy!!!

Mock up versions of movie posters are pretty common... shit, 3/4 of ALL Internet content consists of fake movie posters and cat captioned photos (I see you Cal... I see you!). And the most oft posterized film seems to be the original trilogy, the only trilogy.... Star Wars. It is an amazing set of films, and a touchstone for multiple generations of people, it makes sense that it is the one picked the most. But they usually tend to skew towards pedestrian. Not Andy Fairhurst, UK artist extraordinaire. He decides to go minimalist, but in a very cool way. He takes certain vehicles from each film and makes them the focal points of the posters, but he also subtly inserts the coolest characters of each film embedded into the whole background of the poster. The result is amazing. Upon a deeper review of Andy's website you find even more cool posters for classics like Jaws, Back To The Future and Rocky... as well as new movies such as Batman v Superman & Transformers. You can see all 3 of the Star Wars posters after the jump...

Eli Roth Wants To Take You To 'The Green Inferno'... I Don't Know If I Want To Go!

A few years back, I had the opportunity to cross a movie off my 'never saw' list that I had been desperate to see for many years. 'Cannibal Holocaust' is a legendary horror film from the early 80's that I had never seen, and it was legendary in stature. Why? Well, for one, the movie is supposed to be one of the most horrifying movies ever filmed! It is so convincing that director Ruggero Deodato was brought up on charges, in his native Italy, because prosecutors were POSITIVE that people actually were killed in making the movie. Yup... he had to produce the (still alive) actors as proof that it was all movie magic. Now that's something I had to see! And I was getting to see it on the big screen at NYC's Sunshine Cinema. How lucky am I? The answer was not very lucky at all. Not because the movie didn't live up to the hype... it did. It was amazing! But it haunted me, down to my core. The creepy music, the horrifying visuals, and the gore all got me deep down... and scared the absolute fuck out of my wife as well! My buddy Jeff Bond and his lovely lady Bri were all blown away by the flick too. It was a very fulfilling experience. So you can imagine how my interest peeked when Eli Roth announced he was throwing his hat into the cannibal film genre. He announced 'The Green Inferno' (which also happened to be the original title for 'Cannibal Holocaust') and planned on shooting it down in Peru. He also found a little tribe in the forest that had NEVER BEEN FILMED before and were willing to participate in the movie. It is about to get real... and with the movie magic we possess today I can't wait to see what he can fool us with. The movie will be arriving on September 5th, 2014... but you can catch a glimpse of the first trailer and movie poster after the jump. Lets see if Eli Roth can pay homage to a classic and still create his own unique cinematic memories...

Wolf Creek 2... Electric Boog-a-loo?

I don't know about this one... but sometimes when you have a loyalty to the first film in a series you almost feel obligated to give sequels a chance. Wolf Creek is the latest film to get a late coming sequel, this one coming almost a decade after the release of the 1st film. The original Wolf Creek was one of my favorite horror films of the 2000s, and I didn't even mind the 'based on true events' bullshit tag that was slapped on it by director Greg McLean when it came out. Instead of being about one particular case, it took elements of a bunch of different murder cases in Australia's history and filmed at real locations around the Outback for authenticity. It worked, as the 'three tourists get kidnapped by a madman in the middle of nowhere' plot worked to a creepy perfectness. The main character of the movie is the enigmatic Mick Lynch, played to psychotic perfection by John Jarratt. Mick is a disgusting, horrible individual who is obviously bored out of his mind being by himself in the Outback... so what better way to entertain himself then to kidnap and tortue some folks? Sounds like a beautiful plot to me. And it worked... well. I love that movie. But the sequel??? I'm not sure... or maybe it can be great? Check out the synopsis, movie poster and trailer after the jump...

Cannibal Holocaust by Randy Ortiz (for Grey Matter Art)

I love a good poster, especially if it comes from a company that is just starting out and happens to be for one of my favorite cult classic films. Grey Matter Art is a company just starting out and they have forged some potentially great partnerships with companies like Troma Entertainment (The Toxic Avenger, etc) and Grindhouse Releasing (Cannibal Holocaust, etc) that distribute classic films. This will lead to some great projects featuring dope artists and spotlighting great films. The first endeavor is a poster for the grandfather of all cannibal movies, and the Italian classic comes to life in this impressive poster from Randy Ortiz. There will be 250 of the original print on sale for 45 bucks, and 125 of the variant editions on sale for a slight bit more at a total of 55 bucks. Both prints will be available April 8th on the Grey Matter website. This poster is just gorgeous, and really does a great job capturing all the details of Ruggero Deodato's opus. I love the camera being the focal point of the whole poster. Really cool. Check out both editions of the psoter after the jump...

Jupiter Ascending - Just What Kind Of Batshit Crazy Space Epic Do The Wachowski's Have Coming Out?

There are not many more polarizing figures in the Hollywood landscape than the Wachowskis. The brothers (or former brothers, now that one is living as a woman...) have been making waves from their very first movie Bound. No one wanted to finance the Matrix films, and when they finally did find someone to greenlite those we got one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time... and a couple of ill conceived sequels as well. But there is no denying that the Matrix franchise proved that original properties could be made into tentpole movies that might even spawn franchises... and that is a good thing no matter how you feel about Neo & the leather clad gangs further adventures. These dudes are extra ambitious when it comes to their projects. Need proof? Check out Speed Racer, V for Vendetta, and Cloud Atlas for proof. All of those films were met with mixed reception from fans, but all of them showed just how committed to their vision for their projects they can be. They do not bend, they do not compromise... nope, they make THEIR films THEIR ways whether the public & the studios likes it or not. Check out their latest project, Jupiter Ascending. Channing Tatum as a intergalactic bad-ass bounty hunter. Mila Kunis as his target and also the potential future leader of the universe. Time travel, gods ruling over the universe, alien bounty hunters... yup, this sounds exactly like a Wachowski film to me. Then there is the casting of Tatum as the lead. This also seems like a very Wachowski thing to do, very similar to Keanu Reeves casting in the Matrix. From the trailer I get the unique look and feel of the Wachowskis, and I am very intrigued by the concept. Cloud Atlas helped sell me on anything future these guys did, because that film looked to be a mess going in and was executed incredibly. I don't know if this puppy will live up to their past accomplishments or be any good, but I will certainly be giving it a shot. Oh, and Eddard Stark himself (Sean Bean) will be along for the ride as well. That is just another reason to get on board. The film release July 18th, 2014. Check out the trailer & posters after the jump....

Lucio Fulci, Revisited....

I have always been a big fan of Italian horror flicks... being the 80s baby that I am. Dario Argento is and always will be one of my favorite directors ever (for his early work, most of his newer stuff is shit!) but my second fave has to be Lucio Fulci. The Beyond, House by the Cemetery, The New York Ripper, Zombie... all classics!Fulci has a very unique style to his films, and that is often conveyed in the AWESOME posters that accompanied his movies to the theaters. They are super rich color-wise and full of key components from the films, and I can't help but assume that Fulci was very involved in the constructing of the posters. My favorite movie theater in NYC, Nighthawk Cinema in Brooklyn, will be hosting a live screening of the Fulci classic 'The Beyond' tonight (tickets still available... get em here) and they have posted a full gallery of Fulci movie posters over at their blog. You can see the full gallery here, and check out my faves after the jump. Long live Fulci.... that dude sure knew how to make a horror movie!!!

The Posters For 'Muppets Most Wanted' Are Channeling Some Action Classics In Their Latest Round Of One Sheets...

Muppets Most Wanted may very well be one of the most anticipated movies of the spring that nobody even knows is coming out. It is a huge property, they got a huge Toyota crossover commercial campaign, and the first one a few years ago did extremely well... but for some reason, I haven't heard much about it. I'm not seeing a lot of promotion, and for a possible big money making movie I haven't seen much buzz about it at all. But as we approach the March 21st release date they are starting to ramp up the publicity, and they are doing so in a very clever way. They decided to put Kermit and Miss Piggy in a few action movie themed posters that will get people thinking about some classic flicks. You gotta love the tagline they sport too: "Taking The World By Farce". Genius. I would watch the shit out of a James Bond/Muppets movie, and I would especially watch a Face/Off remake featuring Jim Henson's creations. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy also gets a poster... really clever cross promotion. I will be lining up to see Muppets Most Wanted when it comes out, will you? Check out the four posters after the jump...

Now This Is A Ridiculous Sounding Movie That I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE: 'Zombeavers' Are Coming For You !!!!

Listen, I have sat through my fare share of nonsensical movies. I watched Ozombie, a film about Osama Bin Laden coming back as an undead zombie, more than once... yup, that is a factual statement. I actively sought out Ishtar to see what everybody was complaining about... It wasn't that bad after all. I also consider more than 5 Troma movies as classics, even though most people couldn't get through 5 minutes of them. I am a sucker for bad movies! So when I saw the trailer and poster for Zombeavers I knew I had a new project to check out. A bevy of youngins head into the woods to a cabin for weekend of sex, drugs and drankin. They only problem is the kill a beaver that gets into their cabin, and that sets off a series of events that brings them face to face with a clan of zombie infected beavers... yup, I just typed that. Zombie. Infected. BEAVERS!!! Jesus CHRIST! Beavers... this is genius. Even the poster and it's tagline are fabulous. "Zombeavers: You'll All Be Dammed!"... Yup! I'm in, how about you? Check out the poster and trailer after the jump..

'Big Bad Wolves' - What Happens When A Victims Family Becomes The Killers?

I love me some Quentin Tarantino, and that dude knows a thing or two about films. So when he declares that a movie is "the best of 2013", who am I to argue? I have become very interested in Big Bad Wolves, the Israeli horror thriller that is setting the world on fire and that QT has crowned the best of 2013. It centers around a child hunting serial killer who is terrorizing a small town. In an effort to garner a confession, a good cop pays two thugs to beat the suspect unmercifully. The beating is caught on tape, goes viral, and the police brutality allows the suspect to slip away from the system uncharged. But the father of the latest victim, a little girl whose body was missing her head when it was found, isn't just going to let it go. So he teams up with the disgraced former cop to engage in a little spot of kidnapping & torture of the suspect... and they are not taking it easy! This one looks amazing! You can see the film in select theaters and catch it online or on demand after January 17th. Check after the jump for the official trailer....

Dario Argento's 'Dracula 3-D': Either Vintage Genius or Terrible Schlock?

I have had my eye on the production of Dario Argento's newest film 'Dracula 3-D' right here on this blog since way back in July 2011 when the first images from the production popped up on the web. At the time I was a bit intrigued, mostly because Argento is one of my favorite horror directors and I was dying to see him have another good movie under his belt. I also love Argento's 'stalker' cam that he uses with his killers, putting the audience into the frame of view of the killer. What better character than Dracula to use the 'stalker' cam with? But now its two years later, the film is in the can, and it is about to be released... so what do we think? Well... the trailer poses an interesting conundrum. One way to look at it is that Argento is going for the "classic Hammer Horror" look and feel of the great European horror movies of the 60s & 70s. This is quite easy to imagine and understanding considering Argento has roots in this era of film making and probably wishes it was all as simple as it was back then. Or.... it could be that the movie just sucks ball sacks and looks like a 30 year old piece of shit. Who knows? The movie comes out on Oct. 4th, and I really don't care what critics say... I for one will give it a shot. Argento earned my viewership with Suspiria. But if it doesn't play like a Hammer film, a vintage love story, and just sucks... well, at least we will get to see a ton of tits. Like Asia Argento, Dario's daughter, tits. Big D loves showing off the tits, especially his daughters. Check out the full trailer and one of the posters (which has a certain Hammer feel, no) after the jump...

The Movies Of Stanley Kubrick

Of all of these, my favorites are Dr. Strangelove and the first half of Full Metal Jacket.  I have to admit that I have never seen The Shining and got through about ten minutes of Eyes Wide Shut. Clockwork Orange freaks the hell out of me still but so did the novel it's based on. Barry Lyndon did nothing for me because I always have hated Ryan O'Neil. 2001? I hate to say I needed to see 2010 to fully get what was going on which made A Space Odyssey so much more enjoyable to watch the second or third time around.

'The World's End' Gets New Posters... And I Am getting More Excited By The Day!!!!

I am eagerly anticipating the release of the latest Nick Frost/Simon Pegg/Edgar Wright collaboration... literally gonna be one of the best moments of my cinematic summer. But I am getting even more excited when I see the newest promotional materials being issued for the movie. I am getting a very spacey, galactic feel to these pics... and that plays into the alien twist that has been rumored to plague the protagonists, who are on a quest to complete a 12 bar pub crawl that they had failed on when they were younger. With Frost & Pegg leading the charge and Wright behind the camera, I am in. These guys never disappointed me before... why think different now? Check out the new posters after the jump...

New Poster And Trailer For Pacific Rim

Really looking forward to this movie. Cal sent over this brand new poster and newly cut trailer to help us quell the anticipation of the biggest movie that is coming out this summer. The robots look amazing, and they are not the most interesting part... that would go to the kaiju monsters!!!! This one is going to be epic. New poster and new trailer after the jump....

Willow Creek: The Newest Film From Bobcat Goldthwait Is A Found Footage Bigfoot Movie With A Poster From Alex Pardee... Wait, What????

Bobcat Goldthwait has been quite a surprise as a director. He started out as the growling con turned cop in the Police Academy series and has parlayed that into a great stand up comedy career and now a feature film directing career. I really loved God Bless America, and have been eagerly anticipating his next movie. Enter Willow Creek, which happens to be a found footage movie about encounters with Bigfoot. Yup, that sounds pretty weird and awesome... and the twist seems to be the comedy between the different people who all claim to have seen Bigfoot but contradict each other with their stories. But now the film has an awesome poster created by one of my all time favorite artists Alex Pardee... yup, this project just got a whole lot better! The film is making the festival rounds right now, and will probably come out sometime in the Fall. Can't wait to catch this one. Check out the poster after the jump...

'You're Next' Movie Posters: Scary As Shit Animal Faced Killers

I have been waiting to get some promo materials from the upcoming horror film 'You're Next' because it looks fucking fantastic. It revolves around a family reunion that takes place at a country estate, and the group of family members who are gathered there are menaced by a set of killers looking to make the weekend a bloody mess. These bad ass murderers have creepy ass animal masks and plan on making easy work of the unsuspecting family... but may meet a challenge from some unlikely family members who aren't ready to just role over and die. The movie is a few years old but has been in distribution hell... and with it's recent screening at SXSW, it is gaining steam again. The trailer comes out tomorrow, but so far we got some cool character posters of the killers... and they are very menacing to say the least. the movie comes out August 23rd, and you should 'Like' the movies Facebook page by clicking here. I will post the trailer once it is out, and you can see the character posters after the jump...

Mike's Movie Poster Roundup - Part 1 - Horror Movie Sequels

One of the biggest parts of the movie going experience for me has always been the movies promotional posters. Usually it is the first piece of promotional material we ever get to see about a film, and it is the first place we begin to form an impression about what the film may develop into or actually be about. A good poster can actually inspire you to want to see a film you may have no interest in whatsoever, or may heighten your interest even more due to the images of the film finally being revealed. We post a ton of film related posters here at CCD, so I thought it would be kind of cool to go back and look at some of my favorites from a particular group or genres of films. Today we take on one of my all time favorite genres, horror movies... specifically horror movie sequels!!! Read more after the jump...

Catching Fire Cast Portraits From the Capitol

As an avid fan of the Hunger Games books and someone who liked the first movie well enough, I am super excited to see the sequel Catching Fire when it gets the big screen treatment this November. I love Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, and I think the second book has the most action and adventure of the three. i also think that the first book consists of a lot of set up, so the second one is non stop action in the arena. As the publicity for the second film starts to build, here are 5 shots of key cast members in their best clothing (or at least the best clothing a resident of Panem would wear) if they were visiting the Capitol. Great job highlighting all the interesting characters that are helping Katniss in their own way.  You can see the gallery of posters after the jump. Catching Fire hits theaters this November...
