Invada Records and Lakeshore Records: "La Panthère Des Neiges" music by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis

Invada Records and Lakeshore Records are set to release the original score by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis to the forthcoming film La Panthère Des Neiges (AKA The Velvet Queen), digitally December 17. The soundtrack is one of Ellis and Cave’s most heartfelt and haunting film projects.  A second track, “Les Cerfs”, the follow up to “We Are Not Alone,” is now available.

High up on the Tibetan plateau. Amongst unexplored and inaccessible valleys lies one of the last sanctuaries of the wild world, where rare and undiscovered fauna lives. Vincent Munier, one of the world’s most renowned wildlife photographers takes the adventurer and novelist Sylvain Tesson (In the Forest of Siberia) with him on his latest mission. For several weeks, they’ll explore these valleys searching for unique animals and try to spot the snow leopard, one of the rarest and most difficult big cats to approach.  The film by Marie Amiguet and Vincent Munier will be released in the U.S. on December 22.

Ellis says in the press notes to the film: “There is something about the heart of this film that draws you in. I realized after a day, that I wanted to do whatever it took to compose an entire original score. The film deserved to have its own musical voice.  I booked five days and asked Nick if he could come in for a day to write a theme song and play some piano.  He saw the film and stayed for four days.

In the end we made what I think is one of the most beautiful films we have ever worked on. One of my favorite experiences ever working on a project. The stars are the animals in all their wild glory, as we have never seen them before, and man in reverence and wonder.”

Lakeshore Records and Invada Records: "THE NORTH WATER" music by Tim Hecker

Invada Records and Lakeshore Records are set to digitally release ‘The North Water’ Original Series Score, featuring music by pioneering Canadian electronic musician and sound artist Tim Hecker. The arctic-drama series, starring BAFTA-winner Jack O’Connell (Unbroken) and Golden Globe-winning actor Colin Farrell (Seven Psychopaths), is based on Ian McGuire’s 2016 best-selling novel of the same name, and is adapted by writer-director Andrew Haigh (45 Years, Looking).  Lakeshore Records will release the album in the Americas and Invada Records in the rest of the world.

The North Water is Tim’s first ever score album release and stands as a creative beacon in his career. The trailblazing musician is known for his gritty and innovative solo works, which include thirteen albums to date. In a review of the series, The Week says, “Tim Hecker's superbly eerie electronic score is full of whale calls, howls, echoes, and ice creaks…”

The North Water Original Series Score album will be released on digital platforms on September 10, in conjunction with the U.K. premiere. The series will air on BBC Two at 9:30pm, at which point it will be available as a full series box set on BBC iPlayer. On BBC Two it will air in weekly instalments every Friday night for five weeks. The limited series premiered in the U.S. earlier this summer and is currently available to stream on AMC+. A vinyl release of the score is slated for early 2022 on Invada Records.

Of the album, Tim Hecker says, "The score for The North Water was written just before and during the pandemic in 2020, mostly over arguably one of the darkest winters of some memory in Montreal. The music was an attempt to add depth and texture to a five-hour doomed arctic journey that charts a trajectory from hardened optimism into abject futility. We worked with a primary palette of synthesizers, electronics, and treated cello, in rich live spaces as well as suffocating dead ones. This version of the score is an enhanced mix of some of the material that made its way into the project.”

Invada Records and Lakeshore Records: "DRIVE" music by Cliff Martinez

Invada Records and Lakeshore Records are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the release of the blockbuster soundtrack to Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive with limited edition vinyl double LPs  with brand new artwork and packaging in three variants. The groundbreaking album features the iconic synth-driven score by Cliff Martinez as well as various artists such as College featuring Electric Youth and Chromatics.   Drive was a smash hit upon release as it charted at #4 on the iTunes album chart and peaked at #35 on the Billboard Top 200.  Accolades came rolling in such as Spin Magazine that lists it as one of the “Top 40 Movie Soundtracks The Changed Alternatvie Music.” The vinyl edition will be released in the Americas by Lakeshore Records and the rest of the world on Invada Records October 8.

The vinyl variants are as follows:  In the Americas via Lakeshore Records “Neon Noir Splatter,” in the rest of the world via Invada Records “Marbled Pink” / “Marbled Blue” for retail, and for the Invada Records webshop, an exclusive four-sided picture disc.

This action drama follows a mysterious man who has multiple jobs as a garage mechanic, a Hollywood stuntman and a getaway driver seems to be trying to escape his shady past as he falls for his neighbor – whose husband is in prison and who’s looking after her child alone. Meanwhile, his garage mechanic boss is trying to set up a race team using gangland money, which implicates our driver as he is to be used as the race team’s main driver. Our hero gets more than he bargained for when he meets the man who is married to the woman he loves.

Notes Martinez:  “The words ‘hit’ and ‘soundtrack’ seldom appear in the same sentence. The score to Drive is the closest I’ve ever come to having anything of the sort. And I wish I knew the recipe for it’s success as no one is more eager than me to repeat the experience.”

Cliff Martinez, who was born in the Bronx but raised in Ohio, moved to California in 1976 landing in the middle of the punk movement. After stints as the drummer for the Weirdos, Lydia Lunch and Foetus frontman Jim Thirlwell, and the final incarnation of Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band, Martinez joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers (playing on the band’s first two albums) and later the Dickies. It was during his tenure with the Chili Peppers that Cliff began exploring the new technologies of that era, which would eventually guide him towards the film music world.

A tape Martinez had put together using these new technologies made its rounds, leading him to score an episode of Pee-Wee’s Playhouse. The same recording also ended up in Steven Soderbergh’s hands and Martinez was hired to score the famed director’s first theatrical release 1989’s sex, lies and videotape. Martinez’s longstanding relationship with Soderbergh has continued through the years and they have worked together on ten theatrical releases including Kafka, The Limey, Traffic, Solaris, Contagion and the critically acclaimed TV series The Knick.

Perhaps it is because of his time in the punk scene that Martinez’s approach to scoring is nontraditional. His scores tend towards being stark and sparse, utilizing a modern tonal palette to paint the backdrop for films that are often dark, psychological stories like Pump Up The Volume (1990), The Limey (2009, Wonderland (2003), Wicker Park (2004), and Drive (2011). Martinez has been nominated for a Grammy Award (Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic), a Cesar Award (Xavier Giannoli’s A L’origine), and a Broadcast Film Critics Award (Drive). His second film with Drive with director Nicolas Winding Refn, Only God Forgives, earned Martinez a 2014 Robert Award (Danish Academy Award). His score for Refn’s The Neon Demon was awarded Best Soundtrack at the 2016 Cannes International Film Festival.

Still the drummer at heart, Martinez’s use of audio manipulations, particularly for percussive sounds, has been evolving through the years and is evident by the hammered dulcimer of Kafka (1991), the gray-areas between sound design and score for Traffic (2000), the steel drums and textures of Solaris (2002), what Martinez called ‘rhythmi-tizing pitched, ambient textures’ of Narc (2002), and ‘using percussion performances to trigger and shape the rhythmic and tonal characteristics of those ambient textures,’ as he described his score for 2011’s The Lincoln Lawer.

Martinez’s recent films include Martin Campbell’s The Foreigner, Nicolas Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon, Robert Redford’s The Company You Keep, Nicholas Jarecki’s Arbitrage, and Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers (co-composed with Skrillex). Next up will be the Warner Bros. thriller/comedy Game Night and Refn’s new Amazon series Too Old To Die Young.

Cliff Martinez was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2012 with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. He earned the prestigious Richard Kirk Lifetime Achievement award from BMI in 2013. Martinez served as a juror for the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and served on the International Feature nominating committee for 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards.

Electronic Arts and DICE has announced that two-time Grammy Award, Academy Award, Golden Globe, Emmy, and BAFTA Award-winning composer Hildur Guðnadóttir (Joker, Chernobyl) alongside composer Sam Slater (score producer Joker, Chernobyl) will score the latest entry in the Battlefield™ franchise, Battlefield 2042. Worldwide digital release of the album will be via Lakeshore Records. Lakeshore Records and Invada Records will co-release the vinyl edition. Details forthcoming.

President of Music for Electronic Arts, Steve Schnur, is no stranger to securing A-list Hollywood composers to create epic original scores for landmark EA games, having previously worked with the likes of Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight), Mark Mothersbaugh (Nick & Nora’s Infinite Playlist), Paul Oakenfold (The Bourne Identity), Bill Conti (Rocky), Chris Lennertz (Hop), Sean Callery (24), Christopher Young (Spider-Man 3), Tyler Bates (300, Watchmen), Steve Jablonsky (Transformers), John Debney (Iron Man 2) and Oscar winner Mike Giacchino (Star Trek, Up, Lost).

“From the very beginning, Hildur and Sam set out to craft a score like no other, in which music and sound design meld to create an extraordinary soundscape experience,” says Schnur. “I can say unequivocally that the original score for Battlefield 2042 is the most significant cinematic achievement in the franchise and an absolute game changer for the medium.”

Battlefield 2042 is a groundbreaking first-person shooter set to revolutionize the modern multiplayer sandbox. Powered by cutting-edge technology that pushes the capabilities of next generation hardware, the game drops players into a near-future, all-out-war experience. Featuring matches filled with up to 128 players on the latest consoles* and PCs, this unprecedented scale adds a new dimension to multiplayer battles. Battlefield 2042 also ups the action with the inclusion of real-time events that reshape the battlefield and tactical combat. All-new weapons, vehicles, and gadgets give players the freedom to be strategic and create jaw-dropping, only-in-Battlefield moments.

The biggest, most ambitious title in the franchise, Battlefield 2042 offers a depth of multiplayer across three distinct experiences:

-All-Out Warfare – The next generation of fan-favorite modes Conquest and Breakthrough. Experience the intensity of All-Out Warfare in large-scale battles like never before on maps filled with dynamic weather, dangerous environmental hazards, and spectacular world events that see tornadoes rip across the map and sandstorms block out the sun.

-Battlefield Portal – An all-new community-driven experience that gives players the power to discover, create and share unexpected battles from Battlefield 2042, and reimagined classics from Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3

-Battlefield Hazard Zone – An all-new, high-stakes, squad-based game-type for the Battlefield franchise that is a modern take on the multiplayer experience that is distinctly DICE but very different from All-Out Warfare’s Conquest or Breakthrough modes.
