One needs something of that "human element". The joys of Calabria are not to be bought, like those of Switzerland , for gold.

The beauties of its nature and of its historical-artistic heritage are the great attractions for tourism in Calabria.
The Calabria section is being presented to you by Domenico Russumanno, a native of Vallefiorita in the province of Catanzaro.
Although Domenico has been living in the city of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada since 1975, he often travels back to Calabria.
My mission : Guide the discerning traveler deeper into Calabria's little places, the odd nooks and crannies that are largely unprofitable to write about, and along the way, introduce our visitors to our people, our traditions, our folklore & products of those places we will be "visiting".
More then a journey in the physical sense, it is an instinctive search of a unopened chest that conceal the genuine soul of the many civilizations that shaped this relatively unknown part of Italy.
The site is intended to be not only a practical and educative point of references but above all a source of ideas which, I hope, will lead the tourists along the road to a land which is as fascinating as it is little known.

It has often been said that Calabria wrote a chapter in world history with the arrival of the first Greek Colonies , that history can be read not only in the streets, on monuments, in the archeological museums, but also in the ethnographical and folklore collections. ~ OFF THE BEATEN PATH ~
 The sanctuary of the Lady of the Mountain, one of Calabria's important religious meets. The whole event is accompanied by wild performances of the tarantella dance. It is a duel between the sacred and profane, it is a beautiful madness...
 Its origins date back to the Greek colonies, legends suggest it was founded by Ulysses or his friend Menesto following the destruction of Troy.
Today, Squillace still preserves is medieval characteristic offering the visitors a glimpse of its rich historical past.
 Due to its location and the dense urban configuration, Morano Calabro in the province of Cosenza, boast one of the most suggestive historical centres in Calabria. The village has preserved almost intact its late medieval appearance, with narrow streets and staircases carved into the rock.
 Amarelli Liquorice, a name that is synonymous with a tradition deeply "rooted" in Calabria's historical past.
Still operating in Rossano, Cosenza province, where it all started. Here is where the tempting liquorice candy is born.
