Lawyer, MLA (1941-1945), MLA (1945-1949), MLA (1949-1953), MLA (1953-1957), judge.

Born at Zoria on 30 April 1910, son of Ukrainian immigrant farmers Roman Solomon (1874-1958) and Annie Drosdowich (1878-1975), he graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1934 with a bachelor of law degree. He was admitted to the Manitoba Bar in 1935.

In the 1941 provincial general election, he was elected an MLA from Emerson, being re-elected in 1945, 1949, and 1953. From 1953 to 1957 he was Deputy Speaker. In 1957, he was made a Queen’s Counsel and was appointed to the County Court, and from 1971 to his retirement in 1983 he served on the Court of Queen’s Bench.

On 20 July 1941, he married schoolteacher Jennie Mary Ogryzlo (1909-2002) and they had three daughters. He was active in many community agencies, especially within the Ukrainian-Canadian Community and West Kildonan Public Board. He helped to develop St. Andrew’s College and the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral. In recognition of his community service, he received a City of Winnipeg Community Service Award (1971) and an honorary doctorate from the University of Manitoba (1984).

He died at Winnipeg on 25 June 1985 and was buried in the Glen Eden Memorial Garden.
