Happy Friday

I had a screening this morning, hence it being a little quiet around here, so let's make it loud with this video of Jason Momoa smacking Oscar Isaac's chunky bum hard on the red carpet in Venice yesterday (thx Mac). This was at their premiere for Julian Schnabel's new movie In the Hand of Dante. I want to be Jason Momoa's friend. He's so blessedly handsy. Get handsy with me, Jason!

Today's Fanboy Delusion

Today I'd rather be...

... Jason Momoa's handler.

I've seen enough shows and movies that are about Hollywood movie productions to know that a "handler" doesn't do what I am at this moment insinuating I would do, but that's what keeps y'all coming back here -- oh, the wit! The wordplay! Dorothy Parker whomst? Anyway we got couple of promising pictures from Jason's new Apple+ series Chief of War back in April but seeing him rock that loincloth in magnificent motion? Priceless. Hit the jump for this little tidbit of footage (and more bounteous gifs of course)...

Pics of the Day

Jason Momoa shared the first images from his upcoming Apple+ miniseries Chief of War on his Insta last night, which he called his "Braveheart, [his] Last of the Mohicans" -- Momoa himself created the series and wrote one of the scripts, and it tells the epic true story of the 1780s unification of the Hawaiian islands and you can hear him speak with his typical enthusiasm about the project over at GQ today. I look forward to a history lesson alongside all the loincloths then! (First lesson -- Polynesians call their loincloths a "malo.") Fun aside: I posted these same two pictures on Bluesky last night and was told by one of my followers that they were an extra on the series and Jason wore just his malo for the entire time -- now that is making entertainment! Chief of War debuts on Apple on August 1st! There is a very brief teaser for it right here.

Good Morning, World

Pic of the Day

While I run off to a screening here is a photo of Meryl Streep and Jason Momoa cutting a rug at SNL's 50th soiree this past weekend that needs to be immediately iconic. May we all try to find and hold onto just a fraction of this joy in these dark times!

The Other Aqua Men

The first trailer for James Wan's long-delayed super-sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has arrived and jumping right into what matters most there's not a single second of Jason Momoa flesh to be seen, but both the villain Black Manta played Watchmen star Yahya Abdul-Mateen (seen above) and Aquaman's brother played by the great Patrick Wilson...

... at least know what's up. Anyway this movie is out in December and people were feeling weird that no footage had been released -- well here it is.

I liked the first Aquaman movie pretty well -- compared to the other dreck that DC was dropping it was fun and it had one of my favorite sequences in any superhero movies, ever (the "Trench" sequence) so I will probably go see this even though DC is such a disaster and Superhero Movies are so far past their expiration point for me besides. (Not that I won't go see David Corenswet as Superman because duh.) Anyway if you have an opinion on this trailer let her rip in the comments, while I share a few more gifs after the jump...

Good Morning, World

I'm about a vocal opponent of the season called Summer as there exists in this world, but even I gotta say -- if we have to suffer through this swamp-hell stretch of months then they way to do it is probably the way Jason Momoa does it. Being hot, most likely day-drunk, and swimming with sharks, I mean. It's the only route!

Good Morning, World

Some mornings I sit down to my desk and I have nothing planned for our "Good Morning, World" post and I spend half an hour scouring the internet for something, anything, to post. And then some other mornings I sit down to my desk and I have nothing planned for our "Good Morning, World" post and I spend half a second. This morning was one of the latter as I opened up Instagram and was greeted with this new Men's Health photo-shoot (via) of Mr. Jason Momoa. Dunzo! Now I can waste my time on mre important things like, uhh, staring at these photos for an hour. Hit the jump for them all...

Today's Fanboy Delusion

Today I'd rather be...

... aloha malo with Jason Momoa.

I posted on the subject of Jason Momoa's bare-assed fishing expedition on Twitter a couple of weeks ago, but never got it here on the site apparently? Here's the tweet now then...

... since we've been fortunate enough that the subject has been breached once more (purposeful word choice there) thanks to Jimmy Kimmel's show last night. It was brought up, and as you can see Jason was enthusiastic about educating the viewership regarding his traditional Hawaiian garb (called a "malo.")  And I consider myself an eager student on the subject! Here is the video of his segment and striptease:

And after the jump a few more gifs...

Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

... you can learn from:

Miami Man: You don't see things how they are.
You only see things how you are.

A happy 43rd birthday to Jason Momoa today! After the fine success of director Ana Lily Amirpour's previous film A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night I was sad when I didn't like this movie, but it was no fault of Momoa's -- he was giving me everything I needed. And I guess Amirpour felt the same way because they're about to work together again, and on the most random project...

... a remake of Cliffhanger? What even is this world we live in now? I mean I remember liking the original Cliffhanger a lot in 1993 -- I think I saw it in the theater a couple of times, but circa 1993 I was seeing everything in the theater a couple of times. That was the year 1) I first had my own disposable income and 2) they opened a movie theater in my small hometown. You can see how that all worked out standing before you today! Anyway I guess if Cliffhanger needs to be remade Momoa's a fine person to star in it -- if you follow him on Instagram you've been watching him do the rock-wall thing for as long as I can remember. Plus he's obviously the same sort of movie star that Stallone was.

Today's Fanboy Delusion

 Today I'd rather be...

... playing with Jason Momoa's curls.

(via) Our favorite Aqua-dude always brings the thirst-induing Instagram content but the repeated moments in this video where the camera zooms in and he slooooowly flexes those great big strangle-me biceps? That is religion, son.

Pic of the Day

Even though this picture needed to be about a dozen times sluttier -- you can't even give us wet white tank tops? -- it is a photo of Patrick Wilson and (the now single!) Jason Momoa (and Aquaman director James Wan) celebrating the end of shooting their Aqua-sequel by dousing themselves, so I must post it all the same. You can tell they're all dunderheaded straight dudes because this is some half-assed thirst-trappin'. Anyway I liked about 50% of the first Aquaman an awful lot -- it had what ammounted to a Nicole Kidman Swiffer Commercial Fight after all! -- so I hope the sequel's even nuttier, and I also hope that the cancelation of the spin-off about those "Trench Monsters" means the "Trench Monsters" will show up here again, because that remains one of the greatest superhero movie action sequences ever put on film.

Big Dune Energy, Take II

Alright well I'm off to see Dune a second time -- I saw it at NYFF and dug it and I haven't watched it on HBO Max since because I was hoping to see it on a big screen one more time, since it's so clearly a movie that demands (or at least rewards) that experience. And I also didn't want to see it at a public screening because I'm still wary of those (you know -- the pandemic or whatever). So I got me a guild screening! Even better I got me a guild screening tonight that's got Denis Villenueve & Oscar Isaac there for a Q&A! So maybe pay attention to my Twitter and my Instagram tonight, as I'm sure I'll post something about all that. And hey maybe Denis will whip out Oscar's cock-sock again...

An Oscar-less Future

While I think it's bull-crap -- I know, such harsh language! -- that Denis Villenueve & Co didn't shoot the two parts of Dune back to back, I'm still excited to see that they are kicking into gear on the sequel so fast with today's word that the second film will begin filming in July. At this rate we'll have the second one by... 2024 or something? They say October 2023 but I think they're underestimating reality, which -- as the past year and a half has taught us if we didn't know already -- has endless ways of tossing wrenches into the works. Anyway I look forward to seeing it... right now. We'll see how I feel in two plus years (if I feel anything) (that is to say "If we're not all dead.") (Optimism, ho!) And, in summation, this has all been brought to you by any excuse to post that photo of Oscar Isaac, even though he probably won't (spoiler alert) be in the second film. The end.

Which is Hotter?

Today we finally got confirmation that Dune: Part 2 is coming in October of 2023 -- now they just have to go and, you know, film the thing or whatever -- and this seems like the perfect moment to poll them holes and ask the most important question of them all...

Thursday, October 21, 2021

Good Morning, World

Oscar Isaac's wife was kind enough to share that photo of her perfect husband napping yesterday, and what better way to greet Dune Day than by sharing that with y'all -- yup Denis Villenueve's forever-delayed part one of Frank Herbert's book is finally finally finally out in US theaters now! I saw it at NYFF a few weeks back and I didn't review it then and I am probably not going to review it now, but I did write the following tweet and I think it sums up my feelings fairly succinctly. (You should go see it, on a really big screen if that is a safe thing for you to do -- it's grand.)

Pic of the Day

Director James Wan was kind and generous enough to share this photo from the set of Aquaman 2 this morning, which teases the return of Orm (Patrick Wilson) but more importantly, Orm's abs. Not that the abs are "returning" per se since I don't recall PW getting shirtless in the first film, much to its devaluation. Part 2 is already a better movie! Now let's get some shots of Patrick & Jason Momoa wrestling half-naked (or, you know, not half) in the surf and really knock this movie outta the park. Oh and below is a bonus photo that Wilson shared on his own Insta over the weekend, shared for similar reasons:

Big Dune Energy

Big weekend for Dune fans as the film will be having its long long loooong awaited World Premiere at the Venice Film Festival tomorrow -- I'll probably be forced to see some reactions on Twitter but I'm doing my best to avoid them before its NYFF screening in a few weeks (fingers crossed, considering I haven't gotten NYFF approved yet). Anyway in anticipation of people getting their eyeballs on this flick for the first time they dropped a new clip, which you can see over at Vanity Fair. In other news I've got a screening this afternoon -- no it is not Dune, but it is one I have been wanting to see for awhile now -- and I'll be offline for the rest of the day. So, you know, bye. See ya Monday.

Good Morning, World

Yesterday I devoted our "Good Morning" post to Jake Lacy (and his bum!) on Mike White's glorious new show The White Lotus, and that was great, truly great, and all, but I'd be remiss not to also devote a moment to model and actor Kekoa Kekumano. He plays the local dude who works at the hotel and who hooks up with one of the teenagers -- you might also recognize him from his stint playing Young Jason Momoa in the first Aquaman. Anyway his Instagram is a lovely treat, I recommend you follow him, and for a few more treats (including that glimpse of his bum also out of this week's truly bum-full episode) you can hit the jump...

Good Morning, Kwisatz Haderach

I don't know whose schedule studios are working on but things used to wait to be released by the time I got to work in the morning around 9am -- now they're going up all willy-nilly at all hours; it's chaos! Chaos! Anyway at some point during my commute this A.M. the newest freshest fullest Dune trailer to date dropped, and it shows a lot but it also feels like it's holding back a lot too -- we don't really see much more of the sand-worms than we did in the teaser trailer approximately one million months ago before the plague... just enough to remind us that yes, indeed, they do resemble buttholes. I know they showed an entire sand-worm attack scene at an IMAX event this week that I almost went to but chickened out on because, hello plague still happening. But I'm glad they're saving that for later. For now, let's watch Jason Momoa feel up Timmy's non-existent bicep, and other stuff...
