Bonjour, François

Okay okay okay unlike how half-assed yesterday turned out to be here, I should be (knock on François Arnaud's wood) around posting much more today. Phew! And lets's start off with some true hotness to get our juices good and flowing -- actor slash bisexual king François Arnaud (who I just happened to stand beside at a film's after-party last week and y'all lemme tell you, his prettiness very seriously translates to the real world -- my god) was photographed for Nuvo magazine (via) yesterday and we're lucky enough to have the photos and video. I mean obviously -- what if I didn't have anything to post??? If a photoshoot gets photographed in the woods and nobody sees it does the photoshoot exist? Whoa this is all way too heady for a Wednesday morning, my sincerest apologies. Hit the jump and I will shut up and let you just ogle the pretty now...

No Other Master

Much the way I end up wanting several different versions of posters every time a new Yorgos Lanthimos movie comes out -- and sidenote I can't believe I never linked to the big recent NYT article about Yorgos' longtime poster designer Vasilis Marmatakis, which can be seen here -- I feel the same every time a new Park Chan-wook movie hits. And sure enough his latest No Other Choice has cause for a buffet of movie art beauty. The one seen above is an echo of the main poster, previously posted here -- I already own a copy of that earlier poster but I would one hundred percent also like to buy the one seen here too. Sigh! And don't even get me started on the transclucent one that was being handed out at screenings of the movie in South Korea! I'd kill every person I love to just hold one of those in my hands! Aaaanyway why am I bringing up a movie I have 1) already reviewed out of NYFF right here, and 2) isn't actually out in limited U.S. theaters until Christmas? Because I got some super-powered star-fucking I am super-psyched to mention! I'm about to check another "breathing air with a favorite director" experience off my bucket-list tonight when I see this movie for a third time and it's followed up by a Q&A with Master Park himself! And his leading man, long time beloved hunk Lee Byung-hun, will be there as well! I AM SO EXCITED, YOU GUYS. I'll clearly be posting from it over on my Insta, so keep your eyes peeled there. Did you see my photos of Joel Edgerton and William H. Macy at a screening of Train Dreams last night? They're below if you missed 'em. Tis the busy busy awards-season time of year so expect more star-fuckery to come.

Some snaps of Joel Edgerton, William H. Macy and director Clint Bentley at tonight’s TRAIN DREAMS screening! #traindreams @Netflix.com

Good Night Oscar

Have you seen the photos of Oscar Isaac taken at the Los Angeles premiere for Guillermo Del Toro's Frankenstein last night? Here are two of them but he looks so handsome in every damn picture I recommend you search around (or just check my Bluesky where I posted more) -- they're worth losing yourself in! Kinda wild how he just keeps getting better looking -- I actually saw him coming out of a screening of Richard Linklater's new movie at NYFF last week and stood two feet from him and it ain't photoshop y'all. The man's a dream. Anyway let these photos hold you tight cuz I sure ain't gonna -- I'm off to see the new Yorgos Lanthimos picture! Yay me! Bye!

Alexander Skarsgård, Leather Queen

As you may or may not have heard (although all signs point to "have") I'm in the middle of New York Film Festival duties right now, and for the most part (save yesterday but don't ask) having a grand old time. You can see what there is of coverage so far right here, with the caveat slash promise that lots more coverage will be coming. Anyway I figured I'd share the above photos and videos that I took over the weekend of Pillion writer-director Harry Lighton with his star Alexander Skarsgard at a non-NYFF-specific screenng of that movie -- which I reviewed here -- because there's never not a right time for the Skarsgård. And speaking of Sir Alex -- we've been deeply enjoying the BDSM-flavored outfits he's been rocking on the red carpets for Pillion so far, and it seems like a poll would be fun. Right? Right. Pick your favorite master...

Pics of the Day

As the caption says I went to a screening of Hedda, Nia DaCosta's forthcoming adaptation of Ibsen's play "Hedda Gabler" starring Tessa Thompson in the titular role, last night, and there are some photos from the Q&A and after-party that followed the screening. As a long-time Hoss-head I was most ecstatic to be in the same room with Nina Hoss, legend -- when I looked over and saw her and Steve Buscemi (!!!!) chatting it up excitedly right beside me I almost fell on the floor. I couldn't hear them but one can only assume she was doing his "just total fuckin' silence" monologue from Fargo. Anyway Hedda is out on October 22nd in theaters and then hits Prime a week later -- here's the trailer:

Why Don't You Take a Picture

I've been pushing my review of the Paul Reubens documentary Pee-wee as Himself pretty relentlessly all weekend -- I even posted about it on Instagram, with a little bonus bit you might not want to miss -- but now the time has come to push it here at MNPP. Go read it right here. I'm pretty proud of this one -- I can't overstate the importance of Paul and Pee-wee to being a big part of the brickwork that built up this weirdo standing before you today, and the doc does extremely right by him. Them? Him. If you haven't watched it yet, do! It's on HBO Max (if that's still what it's being called) now.

Hug It Out For A Not Half Day

I was just about to tell y'all that it was going to be a half day here at MNPP because I thought I had a press screening of the upcoming queer flick On Swift Horses starring Jacob Elordi, Will Poulter, and Diego Calva to head to -- watch the trailer here -- but I fucked up my calendar and the screening was actually this morning! Damn damn damn. I am so daft. Anyway I'll probably be able to sneak into another press screening soon so it's not the absolute end of the world, but I was really looking forward to running free and gay for an afternoon -- sigh. Come comfort me with a hug and our pant-fronts pressed tightly together, Jacob Elordi. Anyway I am seeing Andrew Scott live on stage doing Vanya tonight thanks to a generous friend so at least I do have some proximity to gayness on tap -- I need my fix or I'll turn blue, I tells ya.

Pics of the Day

On Thursday I was fortunate enough to attend the 20th anniversary screening of the film version of Strangers With Candy (which is finally getting a new physical media release soon, they told us!) at the IFC Center here in New York, and above are a few photos and one video from the Q&A that followed with Amy Sedaris, Stephen Colbert, and Paul Dinello -- a Q&A that was moderated by Cole Escola no less! Cole of course co-starred with Amy on the brilliant three seasons of the far-too-hard-to-now-find series At Home with Amy Sedaris. Anyway in the video I shared Sedaris brings up a sequel idea that would see our queen Jerri Blank now attending college, and it looks like I have a new impossible thing to pin all of my hopes and dreams upon y'all! Cole could bring their At Home character of Chassie along for the ride -- have her be a mean sorority sister who torments Jerri. I MUST HAVE IT.

Pic of the Day

As stated last evening I did indeed get to go and see Paul Mescal play Stanley Kowalski in the new production of the Teneessee Williams classic A Streetcar Named Desire currently running at BAM in Brooklyn -- if that photo I took during the bows last night didn't clue you in to that fact already. It's a very fine production and all three leads -- alongside our Paul (who I suppose I should note given my audience is in his underwear twice and shirtless several times -- I was in the front row only ten feet away y'all and I kept myself seated; please clap!) there's Patsy Ferran (from my beloved Living with Bill Nighy!) as Blanche and Anjana Vasan (from Killing Eve) as Stella and they're all very very good. I had a couple quibbles with the staging, but then I have got to admit that having seen Gillian Anderson play Blanche in 2016 kinda spoiled me on this play -- she gave what I called at the time the greatest stage performance I'd ever seen, and that remains true today. Anderson played Stella as very much a larger than life archetype though, making the show mythic in its proportions; Ferran smartly brings the character down to earth and so her performance, while not quite as shattering for me, stood on its own. And I think Mescal was a better Stanley than Ben Foster was opposite Anderson -- now I'm picturing Paul & Gillian doing the show together and kapow, mind blown. Anyway I'm very happy I was able to get out of my foul headspace last night and escape into somebody else's foul headspace for a bit -- thanks, Tenneessee! Below are a couple more photos I took:

Tonight's Mood

Right on time to temporarily take my mind off my troubles I'm off to see Paul Mescal in the touchable flesh in the Brooklyn re-staging of A Streetcar Named Desire that he's starring in, after it's been carried over from London -- a couple of desperately needed hours of respite, long sighhhh. So needed. I'll probably spend the majority of the show feeling like he looks in the above photo from the show but hey -- at least I''ll be far uglier while doing it! Wow, a real ball of sunshine over here. Anyway! I might stake out the stage door after the show to get my [redacted] signed by Paul (from what I can tell he's been generous in that regard) so keep your eyes on my Insta maybe. Until tomorrow...

If Thou Canst Cuckold Him

Every day i enter the lottery for Othello tickets (sometimes twice!) and every day I lose. (Also sometimes twice.) So this post is me putting positive energy into the world. You will win Othello tickets, you will win Othello tickets, you will win Othello tickets... sigh. I've managed to see Jake every other time he's done theater but the cost of Othello tickets is out of my reach. No wonder the show is breaking box office records -- it's a thousand bucks for a decent seat. Thus endeth my whine for the day. Carry on.

Meet The Monster's Makers

A series of films curated by Nosferatu director Robert Eggers kicked off last night at Film at Lincoln Center here in NYC with a screening of Eggers' latest followed by a Q&A with three of the film's Oscar-nominated artists (very happy to discover that cinematographer Jarin Blaschke is super fine) and Eggers himself on hand -- oh and me! I was there too! I actually had no idea that any of these people were showing up -- I just wanted to see my beloved Nosferatu on a big screen again, and for the first time in 35mm. (It looked gorgeous.) You can see Eggers' series in full at this link -- so so many excellent and interesting picks but that's hardly a shock. I'm at least going back to see Jean Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast, if not more, over the weekend.  Anyway this Q&A was a lovely surprise and I took a few photos and videos -- the one just below has him giving just a teeny tiny hint of what we can expect from his next film, that medeival werewolf movie I told you about a couple of weeks back, but hit the jump for even more...

Pics of the Day

I had been bitching for awhile, in my extremely priviledged way, that the cast of Robert Eggers' Nosferatu hadn't been doing Q&As here in New York City the way they had been doing for the past several weeks all over the map -- well it turns out they were saving the best for last! And so last night I got to see the movie (a fourth time!) with Nicholas Hoult, Bill Skarsgård, Willem Dafoe, and Lily-Rose Depp all there alongside their director and above you'll see several videos and photos from the experience. And let me just tell you -- being five feet away from Nicky & Bill being buddy-buddy was certainly an experience.

But unbelievably that was not the high point of the night -- the most memorable part of the evening came just beforehand when I was waiting in line for the screening in the movie theater's lobby. They have one of the repliucas of Nosferatu's sarcophogus in the Lincoln Square lobby (yes the same ones you can buy on Focus Features' website for 20K lol) and I was leaning on it while waiting to check in, when who should appear through the revolving doors but a live rat.

Y’all a LITERAL FUCKING RAT just ran past my feet and under the #Nosferatu sarcophagus in the lobby of the AMC while I’m waiting in the line for a NOSFERATU screening — talk about viral marketing

I feel like I should be making this story up given how prominent the press push about all the live rats they used in this movie has been, but I am 100% telling the truth. A rat came into the movie theater through the revolving doors and ran past my feet under the Nosferatu sarcophogus. I am not the only person who saw this -- the people in front of me in line did, and the PR rep for the movie leapt on her chair and screamed. I am in awe. Talk about getting me in the mood.

Anyway the movie plays better every time I watch it -- click here to read my review of the film if you haven't yet. or wait one week, see the movie in theaters yourself, and then read my review. Whatever. Just see this gangbusters horror flick. Eggers made something deeply fucked up in all of the right ways. Exceptional stuff.

Pics of the Day

I attended the premiere of Sony's latest stab at superhero dominance Kraven the Hunter last night here in NYC and above are a few photos I snapped of the film's cast introducing the film -- that includes MNPP faves Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Alessandro Nivola, and Fred Hechinger. (If only Christopher Abbott had shown and given me a full quartet of crushes.) Not the greatest quality snaps since I was in the balcony but better than they have any right being -- the latest iPhone camera really is a wonder of modern technology. Anyway Kraven is finally out on Friday, and I suppose I'll have some words to share on the movie itself before the week is out so stay tuned...

Bill Skarsgård Four Times

The last thing I managed to get done last week before the plague took its toll on me was fitting -- I saw Robert Eggers' Nosferatu a third time! (So many plague rats!) And I also went to a reception after that screening and stood a foot away from Mr. Eggers himself. I didn't talk to him because 1) I am really not that guy and 2) I could already feel my voice leaving me. But as my sickness descended over me for the four or so days since I've had nightmares about Nosferatu every single night -- it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility this could have something to do with the fact that I sleep under a Nosferatu poster. That's doubtlessly worming in there. And also part of those nightmares has been me waking up  in the middle of the night to scribble down random phrases for when I write my review of Eggers' movie, so I think part of it is anxiety about wanting to write a worthwhile review for a movie... well I'm still under an embargo until next week and restricted from being explicit in my feelings but  I've seen it three times already -- you do the math. Anyway that'll be next week. For now some new photos of Mr. Bill Skarsgård aka the grand Count Orlok himself. Hit the jump for them all...

Paul Mescal Getting In Gladiator Shape

The time has come for the Gladiator II workout videos! A staple of the PR push for movies where our favorite hot ass actors get into fighting shape we knew we'd be getting these for Paul Mescal beekcake-ening and sure enough, here they be. Well it's just one now but I foresee myself also making gifs out of like a Men's Health cover story video at some point in the near future and I am not mad about it. But for now just an official video!

Gladiator II is out on November 22nd -- pretty much the perfect Thanksgiving movie -- and you'll hear more from me when the time comes on it. Because oh right I saw it last night?

Yes as I "hinted" at yesterday I was in the presence of Mr. Mescal himself, and saw the movie and the whole deal. You'll hear my opinion about the movie when the time comes but Mr. Mescal in person? All you could hope for. Funny, charming, somehow really genuine-seeming even though he's very much in the period of time where we're all staring dumbly at him not hearing a word he's saying. Honestly though I don't remember a single word he said. I was just like, "Look at that profile... those eyes... swoon..." Although I will say -- it was 80 degrees here in New York yesterday so the fact that he wore pants felt like a slap in the face. I don't care if this is a fancy movie premiere thing -- they make dress shorts now, Paul. Okay my leering aside let's hit the jump for more gifs so we can all leer at Paul together...

Paul Mescal Skirt Cinema

Okay well today is a half-day for me here on the sit because I am headed out to a preview screening of a certain movie, cough cough, which you might have already guessed given the extremely subtle hints I have dropped above. I should add make sure you check out my social media accounts -- all of which can be seen and followed via this link -- because the screening has a Q&A with the filmmkaer and some extremely ahem exciting members of the cast and I will surely snap some photos to share!

Good Morning, World

Hello my people, and happy Monday. From model-actor Jon Kortajarena (via) and myself, of course. Guess what? You'll never, ever guess. Yes it's true -- I am not actually here. NYFF screenings are still a'happenin', and I'm at one this very morning. I will be back this afternoon though, so hopefully that photo of good ol' Jon will keep you satisfied until I'm back. I should actually have some reviews going up shortly, so that's exciting. Also below are some photos I took of the Queer crew at a screening yesterday -- Luca, Daniel, Drew, Justin and Jonathan oh my! BTW if you click through my Insta you'll also see photos of Pedro Almodovar, Tilda Swinton, Julianne Moore, and John Turturro at NYFF for The Room Next Door on Friday! I'm living it up y'all! Stay tuned for more soon-ish...
