Just a Reminder...

... as we head into the holidays that if you do some of your shopping on Amazon (devil horns, pointy fork, evil incarnate) you can and should do it via MNPP's link here or in the right-hand column. That way at least a few of the pennies that are supposed to go into Jeff Bezos' plastic surgery funds get funneled over to mine. Well my pocket that is, not my plastic surgery fund. Although... ahem. Nevermind. But since we can no longer run advertising on the site because of all the dirty pictures this is the only way we make anything on everything we do here! That plus any donations made via PayPal, also in the right-hand column. Oh and you can buy my shit on eBay too of course!  Point being it's all appreciated. (And speaking of dirty pictures, pictured above is Channing Tatum in the really very good film Roofman and we'll have more to come from there eventually.)

The Chan-dy Man

Channing Tatum is always going to be younger and hotter than me, that's a given  I came to terms with the first second I laid eyes on Channing Tatum. But I feel as if I can still take some personal pleasure from the fact that a movie trailer can still be sold on the repeated sight of Channing half-naked -- the logic being that once he ages out of that then it's really fucking over for me. But that day is not today! So it goes...

... with the trailer for Derek Cianfrance's new movie Roofman, which tells the wild true story of an ex-Ranger who went to prison for robbing McDonalds (by drilling down through their roofs, hence his nickname) who hides out and moves into a functioning Toys R Us store after he escapes. I remember these headlines! Anyway the trailer makes this seem more lighthearted than I anticipated from Cianfrance, but with this incredible cast -- which also includes Kirsten Dunst, Lakeith Stanfield, Peter Dinklage, Ben Mendelsohn, Uzo Aduba and Juno Temple -- I'd have been sold even wiuthout all the Chan-skin. Watch the trailer:

Roofman is out on October 10th!

My Summer of Chan

And that I suppose is that -- it's holiday o'clock! Tomorrow being July 4th we'll be closed up shop-wise until Monday -- and since I'll also be seeing the new Channing Tatum picture on Monday why not give us some summery Chan to get us in the mood for all of it? I hope everyone has a good long weekend whether you're here in the U.S. celebrating it, here in the U.S. not celebrating it (and honestly given the state of our country right this second it's a complicated celebration), or somewhere else doing whatever it is you're doing. If you're wondering what movies to see scan down the site you'll see my review of MaXXXine and my review of the French vampire flick The Vourdalak -- I only recommend one of these unfortunately. I guess we can't have everything. But we'll have Chan doggonit!

Magic Mike's Fury Road

Do not let the above photo that Channing Tatum shared today from the set of Magic Mike's Last Dance (in honor of the movie now being in theaters) fool you -- that photo feels like way more skin than you really ever see in the film itself. And I never wanted to be That Guy -- the one who took these movies to task for trying to be, you know, Movies, and not just Banana Hammock Strip Routines. But this latest one finally defeated me. Head on over to Pajiba to read my thoughts, which are mixed to put it lightly. I will say this is a case where my nagging makes the movie sound worse than it is -- it's a perfectly okay time. Salma Hayek really is terrific. There's just way too little show in this show-and-tell. If only everything had been as effortless and confident as its first twenty minutes, glimpsed here in this clip:

Channing Tatum Eight Times

While I will admit I preferred Channing Tatum's last major magazine photoshoot -- meaning the speedo one he did for VMan magazine right before The Lost City came out -- these photos for the new issue of Vanity Fair are fine. Obviously. I have nothing against crotchy Depression-era gender-fluid dirt farmers. Who would? They're our best and brightest. This chat is supposedly for the third Magic Mike movie -- I don't know because I haven't read it because I am out of free Vanity Fair articles. If you can read it let me know. But I did manage to swipe what I think are all of the photos, so hit the jump and enjoy them at least...

Pic of the Day

The third Magic Mike movie, titled Magic Mike's Last Dance, is hitting theaters on Valentine's Day 2023 -- so says Channing Tatum himself via the same tweet where he shared this, the first image from the movie, of his co-star Salma Hayek stroking his abs. Salma you already married a billionaire -- must you have everything? What about the rest of us? I could have played that part. I have no idea what the part is but I can wear robes and touch abs. That much I know! That much I am real good at!

Good Morning, World

(click to embiggen) Here are a pair of vintage Channing Tatum photos from back in his modeling days via the fashion photographer Matthias Vriens (follow him here), who's always so generous with sharing old way-back snaps of note -- see one previously posted here of Channing, and then there is of course the greatest photo-shoot that Taylor Kitsch was ever involved in... anyway good morning, everyone! It is a Monday! Boo hiss et cetera. Channing's got what we need to melt the boos away...

Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

 ... you can learn from:

Magic Mike (2012)

Dallas: Fact is, the law says you cannot touch!
But I think I see a lotta lawbreakers up in this house tonight.

Magic Mike came out ten years ago today! Isn't that nuts?
I'm sorry but that's nuts. Soon enough (I would guess next
summer) we'll have a third movie. But we'll always have this:

And this:

And this:

People like to pretend this movie didn't offer up
the goods but those people are no good.
I think those people need to be punished...

Channaissance Rising

The blessed age of our Channaissance is in full swing with this weekend's release of The Lost City starring him and Sandra Bullock in an adventure-romance that very clearly has the 1984 classic Romancing the Stone on its mind (and buttocks) -- I reviewed it for Pajiba today, and here is that review! It's totally okay and you probably will not have a bad time watching it! (Here is a recent gratuitous clip they dropped, if you need further convincing.) This comes just a few weeks after Tatum's also not bad directorial debut Dog -- which I reviewed right here -- and also hot on the tail of his exquisite for-the-ages photoshoot for V Man magazine, posted here. There's all of that, and Magic Mike 3 is set to start filming any minute I do believe (speaking of -- shouldn't we be getting some casting updates on that one, guys?)... I personally am real glad to have Channing back in our lives. I missed his ass. (Do I need to add "literally"? I don't think I need to add that. You get it.)

Good Morning, World

Ohh, the PR people are onto us! In my inbox this morning I got a behind-the-scenes featurette about the "Leeches Scene" glimpsed in the trailer for The Lost City (see that here), which has Channing Tatum and Sandra Bullock basically doing a new spin on Romancing the Stone -- she's a romance novelist, he's her cover model, they're in the jungle yadda yadda romance blooms. Anyway at some point Channing gets a bunch of leeches on him because what else are Channing Tatum Movies but an excuse to get Channing Tatum to strip his clothes off -- this scene was foregrounded in the trailer pretty heavily, but now we get this featuerette, which...

... is censored! Which smartly accomplishes two things -- it tells us that if we're going to see this movie we're definitively gonna get a full half screen of Channing Tatum's ass. But it is forcing us to go see the movie, and not giving up any good just yet. I have been played a tool of corporate agenda, and yet I guess I'm okay with it. I spent ten minutes this morning thinking about Channing Tatum's Ass -- how could I not be okay? Here's the featurette:

The Lost City is out on March 25th!

Channing Likes Big Mutts & He Cannot Lie

It was weird -- for a movie that is ostensibly a "boy and his dog" picture, tale as old as time, there were about five different reviews I could have written about Channing Tatum's directorial debut Dog, out this weekend. Here is the review I did write for Pajiba, and I stand behind everything I said there about the film being a solid star vehicle for everything we like about Channing Tatum, Movie Star.  But there are also interesting threads within the film to be unraveled that have to do with its relationship toward the military and politics that are at times less flattering -- I see all of that stuff in there too, but it felt to me less like the movie was coming down on a Conservative side than it was actively wrestling with and unsure where it should land on a lot of things. Anyway for a goofy movie about a man taking a dog on a road trip it goes to some surprisingly dark places, and it doesn't stick all of them, but I somehow didn't mind that enough for that to become the focus of my review. I think it presents a conversation, not entirely sure where it fits, but I appreciate it not being the generic trifle it could have easily been and think it's actually very much worth seeing and discussing. All that plus Channing Tatum is in his underwear often. What more does one need?

Good Morning, World

Thanks as ever to Channing Tatum for always being That Guy -- That Guy who'll take photoshoots in a speedo for VMan magazine, That Guy who'll grind his uniformed ass against another army dude on the set of his new movie. You know -- That Guy. (via) His new movie (his directorial debut, no less) is called Dog by the way, it's out this weekend, and it's... about a dog. I saw it last night coincidentally and will have more to say on it later this week. For now though I don't believe I have shared the film's trailer, so this moment's plenty opportune ain't it...

Good Morning, World

Well, Channing Tatum sure decided to come back from his self-imposed hiatus full force this time, didn't he? His brand new cover-shoot for V Man magazine is I feel I can say right here out of the gate one for the ages -- immediate, legendary, king, et cetera. You can read the interview here, which I haven't done yet myself in a rush to get these pictures out! Because my god! This shoot. Hit the jump for the entire thing...

Quote of the Day

If you have the chance to read an interview with Steven Soderbergh you take that chance, as he's one of the smartest filmmakers and film-lovers that we have, and we've got the chance today! He's interviewed at The Daily Beast because he's got another new movie out this week, the techno-thriller KIMI starring Zoë Kravitz that's hitting HBO Max on Thursday -- read the whole damn thing here. The choice quotes i've seen going around have to do with Superhero Movies because people can't help themselves -- they gotta ask every damn movie-maker about Superhero Movies -- but I'm going to focus on his comments about the third Magic Mike movie, because.. of course I am. No but seriously he offers up more specific information than what we've had before on where he's going with it:

Daily Beast: You have a lot of upcoming projects, beginning with the third Magic Mike. What brought you back to the series, especially as a director?

Steven Soderbergh: The live show that Channing and Reid [Carolin] and Alison [Faulk] thought and created. The live show completely blew me away. I’d never seen anything like it. I’d never seen dancing like this, anywhere. I walked out of the theater and started calling everybody to say we need to make a third film about how Mike created that show.

DB: So there’s going to be a life-imitating-art-imitating-life element to the sequel?

SS: Yeah. Through a set of very odd circumstances, Mike is presented with the opportunity to make something like this happen, and the film is about another crazy collection of characters who are trying to pull this off. It’s another of my disguised procedurals, but it’s got massive amounts of dancing in it, and I’m super excited about it. It’s as close to a full-blown musical as I’m ever going to get."

Channing Tatum Six Times

There's a big cover story interview with Channing Tatum in the new issue of Variety, you can read it here -- he talks about wigs and getting butt-ass-naked in The Lost City (he also admits he hates that they changed the title from The Lost City of D, which has also bugged me) with Sandra Bullock (I shared the trailer for that here), he talks about losing his pet dog and how that became his movie Dog out later this month, and most importantly he talks about making the third Magic Mike movie with Steven Soderbergh, which was just announced in November. Choice quote:

"This one’s going to be a full dance-icle. We’re going to swing for the fence. I’m going to dance as hard as I’ve danced in any movie other than ‘Hail, Caesar!’” he says, referring to the 2016 Coen brothers film in which he learned how to tap dance. “I want this movie to be filled with joy and fun. Everybody is like, ‘Less character, more dancing.’ So I’ve listened."

I'm one of those people -- "those people" -- who's actually liked both of the Magic Mike movies as they've been; I know a lot of people have reiterated what he's saying, that they both were more drama less tea-bagging than people were clamoring for, but I thought they worked. Still I'll come for the tea-bagging too! Of course I will. Anyway Chan's looking mighty fine right? He looks ten, fifteen, years younger? They've definitely put the Hollywood buffing machine to work on him. Hit the jump for the whole shoot...

They Lost the D

The trailer for The Lost City -- formerly titled The Lost City of D (IMDb even still has it listed that way) but I guess they work-shopped their dick joke right on out of there -- starring Sandy Bullock and Channy Tatum as a bickering romance novelist and her pretty-boy Fabio-type cover-boy respectively, is here, and it's exactly what you expected, if what you expected was a riff on Romancing the Stone with a lot of Channing's muscles on display. There's a shot of him shirtless in the trailer but he's covered with leeches and it grosses me out, so...

...  let's just stare at this perfectly lovely and leech-free gif of his arms instead. To paraphrase that famous pig, "Some arms!" The Lost City, which was directed by Adam and Aaron Nee (who are supposed to be making the He-Man movie next but we've heard about a He-Man movie for so many years we're taking that one with a grain of Eternian salt) is out on March 25th. Here's the trailer!

Tell me what you think in the comments.
And okay yeah fine here's leechy shirtless Chan:

Back It Up, Channing Tatum

The "it" I speak of is the dump-truck (ass) full of cash to Channing and Steven Soderbergh's houses, because the duo have just announced a third Magic Mike movie! To be titled Magic Mike's Last Dance, Tatum posted a photo of the script cover on his Twitter (see down below) this morning, and I have to admit I'm not super surprised? Happy yes, obviously, but not surprised given how ripped Channing's been seen getting lately -- see here for an example. His abs were like a flare shot into the sky -- I sensed this coming! Anyway there's not a lot of info, besides Soderbergh (no doubt with tongue firmly in cheek) saying, "Mike Lane’s dream of connecting people through dance must be realized," so stay tuned. I can't imagine that we won't see some familiar faces (and you know what comes down below those faces) showing back up for the third round. Personally I'm really hoping they bring Alex Pettyfer back -- I know he was an asshole, but... he put the "ass" in "asshole." He really did.

Good Morning, World

I happened to see that photographer Matthias Vriens posted this vintage snap of Channing Tatum on his Insta this morning and I both want to look at it and am running late, so a perfect storm of reasons to just post this and move on have presented themselves. Now if only Channing would present himself...

Lee Pace Wins The Men's Ball

Did y'all pay any attention to the Met Ball last night? I hadn't even known it was happening until Timothée Chalamet went live on Insta (I have alerts set for that) and he did this big Live IG entrance thing (see my tweets here) and so I paused the TIFF movie I was watching and paid the red carpet some attention for a little while. As far as I'm concerned Lee Pace here won the men's fashion division, but the general rule with these things is "they only looked good because they are [fill in the blank]" -- like I would look ridiculous in that outfit, but 6'5" Lee Pace makes me think dirty thoughts when he wears sock garters so it's alright. Same goes for Timmy's outfit -- he gets away with that shit because he's a 90-pound 25-year-old fuckboi; all others need not apply. And that's how I want it! That's why they're celebs and I am laying on the couch, happily consuming their content. I ain't got time to try on sock garters. On that note hit the jump for more Mr. Lee doing just that for us...
