Capulanas

Segundo a Wikipedia, uma Capulana é o nome que se dá, em Moçambique, "a um pano que, tradicionalmente, é usado pelas mulheres para cingir o corpo, fazendo as vezes de saia, podendo ainda cobrir o tronco e a cabeça." e que medem aproximadamente dois metros por um metro.

Estes são da minha mãe e foram-lhe oferecidos por uma amiga. Fiquei cheia de vontade de os recortar para fazer o topo de um quilt - as cores são lindas, os padrões também - e um patchwork de quadrados largos era capaz de resultar bem aqui.

According to Wikipedia, a Capulana is a piece of fabric measuring 2metres by 1 metre and "can either be used as a wrap-around skirt or can become a baby carrier on the back. It is worn in Mozambique and elsewhere in southern Africa".

These ones belong to my mother and were brought to her by a friend. I wish I could make a quilt top from them - the colours and the patterns are gorgeous: large squares pieced together would look great!

Fabrics + Workshops

A minha mãe está a preparar um par de workshops (em Lagos e em Faro) e pediu-me para lhe comprar os tecidos, uma vez que em Faro não existe grande variedade e os que há são muito mais caros - dá para desenrascar, mas comprar seis metros de tecido de patchwork é missão quase impossível! 

Como já tinha visto uns que gostei não muito longe de casa, ontem de manhã fui comprá-los - acreditem que a dificuldade foi escolher!!! Escolhi três pares de tecidos que serão distribuidos pelas participantes nos workshops e que poderão decidir como os usar .-)

Nos workshops vão ser feitas duas bolsas, de tamanho diferente, com fecho metálico, e quem estiver interessado poderá enviar-me um e-mail, que eu reencaminho para a mãe e ela dá-vos os detalhes.

My mother is preparing a couple of workshops (in Lagos and in Faro) and she asked me to buy the fabrics, once that in Faro they are very difficult to find and what is available is rather expensive - it's not impossible, but buying six metres of patchwork fabric is not very easy...

As I had spotted some not far from where I'm living, yesterday I went to buy them - believe me that it was difficult to choose!!! I chose three pairs of matching fabrics for those who attend the workshops to choose how they want to use them :-)

In these workshops you will make two purses using a metal clasp and for those who are interested, just send me an e-mail and I'll forward it to my mother who will be pleased to give you all the details.

Os tecidos de hoje percorreram um longo caminho até cá chegarem. Dos EUA viajaram até ao Qatar, e numa viagem sem muitas peripécias vieram até mim - obrigada, querida Mónica!

No entanto e antes de os fotografar, fui buscar um pouco de inspiração a um dos meus blogs preferidos de sempre (não só pelo blog, mas -principalmente - pelas duas pessoas magníficas que estão por trás dele), o Branco Prata, reuni alguns elementos nas mesmas cores dos tecidos e apontei a máquina fotográfica, tendo em mente: será que sou capaz de fazer um daqueles quadros de inspiração que tento me encantam? Hummmm, mais ou menos :-)

The fabrics I'm showing today had a long journey before they arrived. From the States they travelled to Qatar and from there, in a quieter journey than usual, they were brought to me - thank you, my dear Mónica!

But before taking some pictures, I went to get some inspiration from one of my favourite blogs ever (not only for the blog, but especially for the two amazing people behind the scenes): Branco Prata! I gathered some acqua and red objects I had around and shot some photos with a challenge in my mind: can I make an inspiration board as beautiful as the ones I love? Wellllll, sort of :-)

Tons suaves e cores diferentes das (minhas) habituais caracterizam este tecido Liberty que vai ficar em stand by até eu decidir o que fazer com ele. Gosto tanto dele que me apetece tê-lo sempre à vista só para o poder admirar :-) e vai sem dúvida para a minha lista de preferências juntamente com este e com este.

Soft tones and different colours from the ones I use to buy are the main attraction of this Liberty fabric and just for that it will be put on hold until I decide what I want to make with it. I love it so much that I wanted to have it on display all the time just to look at it :-) and it goes straight to my Top 10 together with this one and this other one.

Paixões * Passions

Sou uma pessoa de paixões - algumas fugazes, mas a maior parte duradouras, do género "até que a morte nos separe" - e isto acontece com tudo, sem excepção. E não demoro muito tempo a descobrir em que lado da tabela elas se encaixam.

Há tempos vi este tecido na internet e foi amor à primeira vista. Tenho andado a namorá-lo, mas encomendar um só tecido não tem qualquer vantagem, por isso quando o vi na Retrosaria nem pensei duas vezes. E sabem que mais? Esta vai ser daquelas paixões duradouras :-)

I'm a person of passions - some don't last much time, but most of them are forever, just  like "until death do us part" - and this happens to everything in my life, without exception. And it doesn't take long to find in which side of the table a new one will be written.Some time ago  I saw this fabric on the internet and it was love at first sight.Since then I've been looking at it, but to order only one fabric becomes very expensive, so when I saw it at Retrosaria I didn't think twice. And you know what? This will be one of those long lasting  passions :-)

Os tecidos são mesmo um vício, e para começar o ano de 2011 nada como reunir o sotck mais recente  - uns comprados e outros oferecidos (obrigada, Lisa!).

Fabrics are really addictive, and to start 2011 nothing better than put together my new stash - some of them bought, other offered (thank you, Lisa!).

Na semana passada disseram-me que na FATACILestava representada uma loja com tecidos de patchwork, e como a ida à feira já estava programada não saí de lá sem a encontrar. Os fat-quarters estavam impecavelmente apresentados e convidativos, bem como todos os outros tecidos que enchiam o pavilhão. Não trouxe todos os que gostaria, mas não vim mal servida :-) Ontem voltei lá e comigo vierem mais uns quantos... Oh, "vício" malvado!!!

Estes serão, quase de certeza, usados em novos babetes :-)

Last week I was told that at FATACIL there was a shop with patchwork fabrics, and as a visit to the fair was already scheduled I didn't leave without finding it. The fatquarters wer beautifully displayed as well as all the othe fabrics in the shop. I didn't buy as many as I wished, but I brought some with me :-) Yesterday I went back and had to get a few more... Oh what an addiction!!!

I'm pretty sure that these will be used in new bibs :-)

Descobri em Sevilha uma loja que vende tecidos Liberty. Apesar do preço totalmente proibitivo não resisti ao impulso e trouxe dois padrões diferentes.

In Seville I found a shop that sells Liberty fabrics and despite their prohibitive price I couldn't resist the temptation and bought two different patterns,

Comprei este livro para oferecer no Natal, mas chegou-me ligeiramente danificado e como tal tive de alterar os planos, pois não quero arriscar uma nova encomenda tão próxima da data da oferta. Fico eu com ele! (nada perdido...)

Quanto aos tecidos trouxe-os da Dot Quilts, aquando da minha ida a Lisboa. Nesse dia a loja estava cheia e o pouco tempo que lá estive foi recheado de momentos simpáticos :-D

I ordered this book to offer as a Chirstmas present but as I was going through it I found that it was a bit damaged and now it's a bit late to risk another online purchase. I had to change plans and I'll keep the book for me.

Regarding the fabrics I bought them from Dot Quilts, when I last went to Lisbon. That day the shop was full and I had a nice time while I was there :-D

A mãe tem estado a preparar matreriais para uns workshops que vai dar esta semana, e achei tão giro o conjunto de cores de feltro que resolvi fotografar.

My mother has been preparing some material for a couple of workshops she'll be doing this week, and the felt colours looked so nice piled up that I decided to take a picture.

Comprei estes dois tecidos ontem e já os estou a imaginar em diversas peças. Dependendo dos contrastes, tanto ficarão bem em exteriores como em forros. Não vos parece?

I bought these two pieces yesterday and since I saw them I imagined several things being made. Depending on the contrasting material they will look beautiful both as main fabric or as lining. Don't you agree?

Há quase duas semanas enamorei-me pelos dois tecidos da esquerda, e não resisti a encomendá-los. Recebi-os na quinta-feira e assim que chegaram experimentei-os nesta pregadeira. Ontem, por coincidência encontrei o terceiro numa feira de artesanato. Não formam o trio perfeito?

About two weeks ago I fell in love with the two fabrics on the left and I couldn't resist ordering them. They arrived on Thursday and as soon as I got them I made this brroch. Yesterday, by mere coincidence, I found the third fabric at a crafts fair. Isn't this the perfect trio?

Estes vieram comigo na bagagem e assim que cheguei, hoje de manhã, lavei-os e já os passei. Por enquanto vão ficar à espera que novos projectos lhes dêem forma.

I think I've lost my mind!

These came with me from Lisbon and as soon as I arrived this morning I washed and pressed them. They are staying on the shelf waiting for some projects which will bring them to life.
