The production of Dodge Polara was started in 1960 in America. Polara served Dodge in various forms and the Polara nameplate designated a step below the full sized best trimmed Dodge model. After the release of the first generation it was made available as a 2-door convertible, 2-door hardtop coupe, 4-door hardtop sedan, 4-door hardtop station wagon. Its production continued for 13 year when it had to be stopped in 1973.
It had a wheelbase of 3,099 mm (122.0 in) but it was increased later. The first generation was not as successful as the manufacturers though it would be and only 14,032 units were manufactured at that time. In 1965, the Polara was moved to a Chrylser C full-size platform and all the body styles were presented. These Polaras were criticized for low fuel economy, with some configurations going only 12 miles on a gallon of gasoline. This is the main reason it was not continued for later years.
