Triumph Stag was meant to be the competitor of Mercedes-Benz SL in the sports luxury model segment. All Triumph Stags were convertible coupes to seat four however it required a B-pillar roll bar hoop joined by a T-bar to windscreen to meet the American standard for structural stability.  It was a popular option to have a removable top for former Stags but the later versions were supplied with it s standard accessory. Original Stags were offered with 2.5 L engine and in order to increase power it was offered with 3.0 litre that offer 2997cc and increased torque. The Zenith-Stromberg 175 CDSE carburetors were used to replace the malfunctioning mechanical fuel injection and meet the demand of US norms. The company was aiming to use different engines around a common shaft and increase production using engine capacities ranging from 1.5 L to 4 L. Monocoque construction like the Triumph 2000 model line was employed in the Stag.
