The Volvo S80 is a car from the executive segment and was manufactured by Volvo during 1998-2006. The vehicle was introduced to replace the Volvo 960 with rear-wheel drive saloon. It was assembled in Gothenburg, Sweden and its first generation did not have an estate model unlike its counterparts. As a major overhaul the V70 estate was sold as the second generation S80 saloon and it also included a luxury saloon and estate. S80 scored the highest ranking in the safety ratings with the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). The second generation was offered with a stronger chassis. For the first generation 368, 000 S80s were produced and it had several safety measures integrated in to them including the side Impact Protection System and whiplash protection system. It had a straight-6 engine and a Volvo developed manual gearbox, since the standard gearbox won’t fit into the engine bay of 6-cylinder. It also included the features addressing environmental specs such as allergens from textiles and fuel economy.
