An Extra Th-Th-Thumpity...

...in my normally hearty routine of "thump thumps"
was just enough to cause concern
and send me to the ER a couple of weeks ago
just to be cautious.
After keeping me under observation for 24 hours
(and the administration
of multiple scans, x-rays, blood tests, and
an a 24 hour heart monitor)
I was discharged and sent home
with instructions to eliminate caffeine and chocolate
and to follow up with my PCP
and my cardiologist within the following week.
That being done...I am feeling pretty good at this writing
and my symptoms have seemed to cease.
To be on the safe side...
I will be issued an "event monitor"
to have for the next 30 days in case an episode
arises again.
It is really cool and being somewhat "sci fi" in scope
it will record any pertinent heart data
which, in turn, will be directly uploaded to my cardiologist!
Go figure...:)
The drawing above was done in stages
...ink straight in...lead free...
starting in my room at 3:00am when I couldn't get to sleep
and then continuing the next day
well into the late evening hours while waiting to be discharged.
I added watercolor paint
for a bit of colorful spice this week at home.
Finally, it was flipped using Microsoft Digital Editor
as a nod to my late night/early morning
artistic efforts.

Inward Thinking...

...Another waiting room sketch I made last month...
ink straight in...
no anatomical accuracy whatsoever.
It is the result of some imaginative inward visualization used
to keep my waiting room mind occupied.
I then flipped it in Microsoft Digital Editor for a more
skeletal x-ray vibe.

ESWL...

 ...means
Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy...
 more commonly referred to as
kidney stone busting.
And...
it seems to have worked.
The drawings above were made "ink straight in"...
no lead...
while I was all hooked up in the outpatient surgery wing
awaiting my surgery.
It was just watercolored today...
13 days later.
Oh yeah,
my right hand was drawn with my left hand
Go Figure!!!

Off and Running...

...and waiting...and waiting...and waiting...
Aargh!
(Click on any image to enlarge for better viewing...)
Well...I am having another kidney stone blasted by ESWL
(extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy)
this coming Friday.
The preliminary tests I alluded to above are actually
general pre-op procedures
just to get all my little "ducks in a row."
Tic...Toc...Tic...Toc...
thank goodness I love to sketch!
I loved that the lady in the wheel chair
provided me with a perfect 10 minute drawing study...
little did I know that seconds after finishing her
she would leave.
Perfect timing...
Serendipitous? I think so! :)
(All drawn lead free...ink straight in...colored at home.)

A Simple Medical Procedure...

...this time it was Scott's "turn"...
and I took advantage of yet another
sketching opportunity.
And...
I can definitely assure you that
this was NOT
"drawn en route from Arizona to Illinois...over Iowa"
as that label
in the bottom right corner states...
(that refers to a sketch on the following page.)

The Past Three Weeks...

...in quick review...
and
hopefully never to be repeated again!
3 doctor's appointments...
(one convenient care doc...one internist...and one surgeon)
1 CT scan...
4 abdominal x-rays...
4 kidney stones...
1 episode of diverticulitis...2 clear liquids diets...
2 extremely potent antibiotics...
taken for 10 days...
2 bottles of magnesium citrate...
(followed by the hours of the distress it causes)
1 out patient procedure...
and, finally,
real food...pancakes at Egg Haven...
and
one cup of "Recoup Soup"
for dinner.
Thank the lord all is well and that is now OVER!!!
Yes,
I did the sketch while at the hospital...
ink straight in...lead free. :)
