Tinkering

It has been a long time since I have been able to "tinker" {as Elyse calls it}

I like that word.

I had some extra time on my hands today so I hauled out my supplies and got started.
Easter is coming up pretty fast and I wanted to make some white crosses.

 I have always been enamored with pretty papers, and all the little tid bits that most people
just throw away. Not me.  I keep them ALL to make

something...anything.
...and once in awhile inspiration actually hits. ha!

{a little hoarding tendencies maybe? No, not me??}

This craft is so easy that even the kiddos can do it so get your little ones
at the table , gather up your supplies and let's begin!

I used some almost transparent white paper from my stash along with cheesecloth,
rubber stamps and flowers.

{I won these pretty flowers in a giveaway from Elyse several months ago}

I had several stamps to choose from and the one I chose says:

 "he has risen"

I started folding the paper at one end and folded it over several times.

Then I cut off the excess and glued it down.

I also tore off the ends instead of cutting them off to make it more rustic looking.

Next , pick your rubber stamp of choice and stamp it right onto the cross.

I adore cheesecloth and use it for so many things. I took a piece of it and wound it
around the cross. You can wind it any way you choose. No right or wrong ways here.

I glued the cheesecloth down in a few places and then added some flowers.

{Now that I look at the three I finished, I should have used assorted stamps, but oh well}

Wouldn't these be cute to lay on each plate for Easter dinner?

As I said...SIMPLE and EASY PEASY...anyone can make these.

I am almost embarrassed to even put the instructions on here.

You could even add some thin silver string at the top to hang them up if you so desired.

Do you think you will make some? Please let me know if you do!

Are you ready for Easter??

The big black box

I got up this morning and decided that I was tired of looking at the big black box on our bedroom dresser so I set about making a cover for it and this is the result.

{notice the dresser handle on the bottom left...lol... I also started painting this dresser a few weeks ago and this is as far as I have gotten. ha! One of these days...}

It is just a piece of fabric that I added embellishments to and threw over the tv. No fancy seams or anything. Just a square piece of fabric.

I sewed on a tulle ruffle and then added cheesecloth on top of that. Hand stamped ribbon on top of the cheesecloth. Very haphazard...no measuring. Just wanted to make something fun that wouldn't take long or tax my brain too much. :)

This is how it looked before...ugh.

I also added a vintage hanky and a fabric pin with ribbon tails.

Lest you think I spent hours sewing this rickrack, lace and tucks in this fabric...no, I did not. I purchased the fabric this way. It was on clearance so I purchased what they had left. {JoAnn Fabric}

Hope you enjoyed your peek into my bedroom again today.

I started with an old wooden berry picking box...

 ...laid it on it's side and started embellishing. {it was already painted white}

First I added white cheesecloth and then an angel graphic from The Graphics Fairy. I glued lace around the edge of the angel photo and then I added a feather, tag and tiny vintage ornaments.

I LOVE the wonderful patina that is found on old Christmas ornaments. You just can't get that in new ornaments.

I thought for a sudden burst of creativity that it turned out pretty good.
What do you think?

First time around I added a candle {and I even lit it}, but that was before I added the feather and I really didn't want my home going up in flames, so I opted for the vintage ornaments instead. You could use a battery powered votive though and I think it would work just fine. I see all kinds of possibilities with these embellished with holy cards and candles etc.  I hope to work on some more after the holidays.

Altered Bottle Fever ~

{update: this bottle is SOLD}

I have been working on altered bottles again and I think I will be making these for awhile as long as I can find the bottles.
I have been selling them as fast as I can make them and I thought I would put this one on here before adding it to my Etsy shop. I am also thinking about
starting a blog just to sell the bottles. This one has a tiny hint of glitter on the cheesecloth. I have also used antique ledger paper dated Jan. 11, 1894 along with other embellishments.

If anyone is interested in this one just email me.
(it stands approx. 5 and 3/4 inches high)
It is 24.99 plus $5.00 shipping.

I love how this one turned out ~ Blessings~

More Altered Bottles ~

I just can't seem to stop making altered bottles! I love them and I never know
what they will end up looking like. I do love how these turned out~
I used genuine antique ledger paper that has
beautiful script on it for the background on the
CHERISH bottle. It is dated Friday, March 30, 1894 ~
I used an old music page from a songbook for the background on this
DREAM bottle~
Beautiful vintage buttons on top of the corks~ And I am loving cheesecloth embellishments as well. I have listed both of these in my Etsy shop if anyone is interested.
Please share YOUR new creations with me ~ Blessings~
